Dreadnought is a slow sledging beast of a song, evoking a sense of massive, ponderous battleships. It could have been called Attack of the Steel Cathedrals.
Military officer: we need to brief a squad on their next op Sabaton: ok Military officer: and we need to do it metal as fuck Sabaton: writers stormtrooper
The Battle of Doyran, which the song "Valley of Death" is dedicated to, is considered one of the greatest military battles in the military history of the world. It was actually the last one of three battles, during which the Bulgarian forces were outnumbered 7:1, and yet not only were able to hold the line by creating deep fortifications to shield themselves of the rain of shells, but gave a rather small amount of casualties compared to those of the Entente (during the first battle in 1915, the Bulgarians lose 1208 soldiers, and the Entente - more than 60 000). The battles were truly a case of David vs. Goliath, but the Bulgarians held the line to the end. During one of the battles the British launched tens of thousands of artillery shells, including chemical ones, for a couple of days. Then, calmly, the British soldiers pushed through, thinking that the Bulgarians would have died from the extensive fire. And then the Bulgarians came out of the fortifications out of nowhere and the damage they did to the Brits was enormous. General Vladimir Vazov, the commander of the Bulgarian forces during the Doiran campaign, is the only foreign general, whom the British lower their flags at half mast for. Upon his arrival in London in 1936, field marshal George Milne says: "Bring down the flags! Here comes the winner of Doyran!" The fortification tactics of general Vladimir Vazov are studied in the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst to this day. It was used during the Vietnam war - the network of tunnels created by the Vietcong was similar to the one by the Bulgarians.
In india during the battle of saragarhi in 1897 the defenders were outnumbered 500:1 they held the position 6 hours killing over 2000 afghan rebels. They all died though and the position was captured by afghans for 2 days beforenthe british reinforcements re captured the fort. The troops on saragarhi were only 21 And the Afghans were 10,000
I'm sorry, but your numbers makes no sense. In fact The First Battle of Doiran was in 1916, not 1915. And the descriptions you give... sounds like The Battle of the Somme, which did see the British suffer 60,000 casualties in one day. The 1917 battle saw 12,000 British casualties vs 2,000 Bulgarian, but the British were only attacking with 43-45,000 against the Bulgarian defenders of 30,000. 90,000 were planned for that attack but that would mean fewer men in France and they feared a German breakthrough as a result. German warships even played part. The first battle is probably the worst one as it saw 3,200 Entente casualties vs 851 Bulgarian
@@Aragorn195 There were at least 3 different battles ( with their own number of waves of attack ) on this place in different years. The casualties were big for the attackers, depends if you conbine or meantion one of those battles. The only correction is that in the last battle in terms of countries present was 1:5 not 1:7 like the guy said, he got confused by a song :D I could believe he can exagurate the numbers but the important part of the battle wasn't that there were a lot of dead but that there were only british troops from the mainland, on other fronts or battles there were a lot of from the colonies. The idea of "pure bred" english dying in such large number hit hard in the british parliament it seems.
Stormtroopers used to be my favourite song. I got to listen to Dreadnought more than 4 times, it growed on me, I can't let it go. My favourite. Dreadnought lives up to it's name, heavy and slow, but once it reaches it's unstoppable. Once it gets in your head 3-4 times you can't let it go anymore
Christmas Truce is so heartfelt. If you are watching the video, it gets to you like nothing else. You can see that when Joakim wants passionately to make a song, he makes horrifically awesome music, like Christmas Truce and Bismarck. For this album, aside from the aforesaid songs which are my favourite of all time, Dreadnought is simply SO powerful. You listen to the chorus and you feel awe towards those beasts of the sea.
You don't "seek out" Dreadnought, it finds you. In all seriousness, Dreadnought was the song I was looking forward to the most and I was not disappointed. Also, "So glad it ends on a positive note", does it?
Dreadnought perfectly embodies the ships it was named after- sure, it's slower than others, but it has an oppressive might to it, that puts it in a different class
@@zxcxdr1 actually the dreadnoughts were typically faster than pre-dreadnought ships. the main issue with them is that each navy could only make a few at most and for many countries if you lost just one then it would be a massive blow to your naval power as a whole, because of this they were mostly just used to blockade since no one wanted to challenge them.
Nah, it's verry possible to miss it, but alex stopped it right when it was about to change to something more sinnister... The lyrics went from: "From a shot that would change the world" "Tensions rize and the war unfurled" Nothing like what had come before It's the war that wil en al war To Will this war really end all wars? Can a war really end all war? Will this war bring another war? It's the war that will end all wars And also the guitar starts to play these verry dissonant notes under these new lyrics Do I'd say positive with a dark underlying message.
When I’m trying to convince someone to listen to Sabaton for the first time I tell them “Imagine King Leonidas teaching history via metal” everyone is intrigued then hooked like myself
Dreadnought is the kind of song I need to get used to. But it's also an earworm, it sneaks in and suddenly I'm humming the melody. My absolute favorite right now is Race to the Sea, but I have a feeling that other songs will rise up to the top after a few more listens.
My absolute favorite right now is Stormtroopers, followed by Valley of Death and Hellfighters. But all songs are bangers in their own ways, there are no bad songs on the album
ye same thing, i dont really like recent sabaton songs during first listening, but after second or third time it feels like i get the enlightement and suddenly start liking them xd
Currently, my favorites are Stormtroopes, Dreadnaught, lady of the dark, and race to the sea. It’s hard to choose as I like them all. Hope you do this for ghosts new album.🔥🤘
24:17 What they mention here is the Battle of Jutland. It was the first Dreadnought-on-Dreadnought battle in history (at least at the scale it was) and basically showed us what modern naval combat would be like…until Battleships became obsolete that is.
Imagine a song about the Battle of Samar and the Battle of Leyte Gulf. That would be awesome. I'd love it if the next album's theme is the Pacific War. Awesome songs would be: The story of CV-6 Enterprise Battle of the Solomons The Last Stand of Taffy 3 The tragedies of the USS Indianapolis and Juneau and so many more.
Dreadnought is prolly my favourite song, especially before gym, it makes me feel ready to give everything. Kinda makes me go further than I would imagine.
I watched Elizabeth's interview with Joakim yesterday and he said "Dreadnought" is different, like not a typical Sabaton song. I like it, didn't expect the progressiveness, "Hellfighters" was heavy and darker and the riffs remibded me of like Amon Amarth and Hammerfall. They've really uped the drum and guitar work on this album. Good balance between energy and breaks. I hear a lot of classical elements in the guitar solos too, and sometimes it's pure classical I love it. Also modern electrical elements. Very diverse album I must say like Joakim also said in the interview. This makes me more hyped for the concert I'll be going to eventually (tickets ready). The grooves, blazing and melodic solos a choruses you just wanna scream along too... The concert will be insane!
This happens to me occasionally. A song will appear further down the list, and upon listening to it more, it becomes a favorite. And some that were favorites drop down the list. For instance, my top 3 for The Great War were 1. 82nd All the Way, 2. Great War, and 3. Seven Pillars of Wisdom. Fields of Verdun was like 2nd to last. It didn’t stand out to me at all. Now its 82nd All the Way, Fields of Verdun, and Seven Pillars of Wisdom, with Great War coming right behind. For The War to End All Wars, my favorites were Soldier of Heaven, Stormtroopers, and The Unkillable Soldier. Now its The Valley of Death (which was like my 5th favorite), Soldier of Heaven, Then Stormtroopers (with The Unkillable Soldier and Dreadnought coming in close behind).
Versailles is such a great final song. It does definitely sound positive to start. “The war is over, this was the war that will end all wars!”, parades, everyone is happy. Then towards the end the tone changes to a not-so-confident and the uneasy question is asked, “will this war really end all wars? Can a war really end all wars?”. And unfortunately we all know what comes next.
It feels like an earlier version of the Bismarck melody, when you think of it that way it opens up the genius of it. Since the dreadnoughts were obviously the precursors to ships like the Bismarck
Yes, I agree. The riff is almost the same as that of Wolfpack. Slow and deliberate; and they also both have that F♯-C-F♯ melodic motion at the beginning. I think Bismarck still has the best riff between the three of them. The verse sort of stands alone; not quite like-but not quite unlike-those of both songs. Dreadnought has the best verse, though. The pre-refrain (I call a chorus a refrain; old habit) sounds very similar to that of Bismarck, similar motion in the guitar, almost the same chords, although Bismarck’s pre-refrain’s chords are rather vague. Bismarck still has the best pre-refrain, though, if you ask me. The refrain sounds rather like Wolfpack’s. Similar chords, and the harmonies hearten back to that era of Sabaton songwriting. I would say Dreadnought has the best refrain. The guitar solo is also similar to the one in Wolfpack. Again, slow at the start, little motion, although Wolfpack’s gets faster at the end. The crown for best solo, in my opinion, goes to Bismarck. And the bridge is not unlike Bismarck’s. Bismarck’s is quieter and more somber vocals-wise, and lacks guitar, but orherwise the similarities are definitely there. Similar melodies and rhythmic patterns in the vocals. Dreadnought’s bridge is cooler than Bismarck’s, though. Wolfpack still wins for cool bridges, though, between the three. All three seem to have the same tempo as well: around 90 BPM. A fitting tempo for all three. Two of them being about a battleship or type of battleship. Those are slow ships. And if you think convoys and submerged submarines in WWII were by any means fast… Well, let’s just say that you need to do more research. And all three are in f♯ minor, which probably contributes to the similarities. Three of their four naval songs are in the same key-Midway, in b minor, is the outlier. Out of Sabaton’s four naval songs (such a pitiful number-we need more songs with naval history), I definitely like this one the best.
in case you're curious, shock troopers, as the name implies, are small well trained units designed for quick and sudden suprise attacks intended to disorient and break the enemy defenses.
You know after how much Alex loved the last album, I figured he'd get this one too. Also Alex if ya read this, the lyric video of Dreadnaught prominently features the last remaining dreadnought, and her name? USS Texas. Given she's Moored in yor home state you can go take a tour with dreadnought blasting lol
This album is such a masterpiece. Almost every single song can be a number 1. There is so much variety, something for everyone. I just can't comprehend how Sabaton does this. They are legends. My favorite song is Race To The Sea, such a majestic chorus. Everything else is close second. Btw, you should watch this interview: th-cam.com/video/zmMhdtUH5hw/w-d-xo.html . You get to know Joakim a bit more, such a great and chill interview.
@@tboyd2495 I love all of their stuff, but I agree that it's at least the most complete album since Heroes. The Great War was a bit too much of the same, this one however just has it all. And I love how Sarajevo and Versailles wrap it up, just what I missed on the last one, since it IS a themed album.
Sabaton usually puts 2 versions of thir albums on Spotify. One is the one currently on Spotify and the other is a "History Version" of the same album, but with the narration.
The Treaty of Versailles was signed in a train car in Versailles…ironically enough, Hitler would force the French to sign a peace treaty in Versailles in that very same train car in WW2.
This album is soo good my current favourites are Soldier of Heaven, Stormtroopers and the Valley of Death. But i am disappointed that Sarajevo isnt on spotify. That song and Versailles are such a good opening and closing, it makes the album come full circle
Dreadnought, a song not only about the class, but the Battle Of Jutland, between the Royal Navy's Grand Fleet, and the German High Seas Fleet, clashing with a huge roar of firepower, creating the largest sea battle in history, and the only battle that saw a real clash of Dreadnoughts, and Super Dreadnoughts such as the new (at the time) Queen Elizabeth class Battleships, consisting of HMS Queen Elisabeth [01] (lead of the class, but not present at Jutland), HMS Valiant [02], HMS Warspite [03], HMS Barham [04], and HMS Malaya [05]. Jutland showed the true firepower of the 15inch cannons on this Super Dreadnoughts, their speed and heavy armour coming into play as well since they were some of the first warships not powered by coal, leaving more room for more armour and less of an area to heavily focus protection on, as a shell breaching coal storage could lead to a huge explosion. Warspite showing the world what a Dreadnought could do, and take, as she was the most expensive ship to repair after the battle due to her being full of holes, almost unrecognizable, but still floating, and still under her own power. Warspite's role as a major role, taking heavy fire while caught out by the whole of the High Seas Fleet before regrouping with the Grand Fleet, being one of a few primary targets by the High Seas Fleet, and when her rudder got jammed and began sailing straight at the High Seas Fleet, becoming target #1, which drew fire away from other Grand Fleet warships, some of these ships desperately needed this, including HMS Warrior, who Warspite inadvertently saved while stuck in the "Circle Of Death", sailing between Warrior and the High Seas Fleet, physically blocking incoming fire from Warrior, allowing her to withdraw from the battle, saving hundreds of lives, even though Warrior eventually sank due to the damage sustained, most of the crew were able to escape the ship, and make it back to port alive. Warspite would go on to be the most decorated warship of the Royal Navy, one of the most respected warships on the seas, defiant to anyone who tries to get in her way. Hundreds of warships showed up for the D-Day for example, and of all the ships present, HMS Warspite was given the honour of firing first at the beaches, followed by every other warship within range. The Germans, Italians, and Japanese all tried several times to destroy Warspite, a few attacks forever scaring the warship, but failed to destroy her. At the end of WW2, her number 3 turret was permanently disabled after heavy bombing by the Germans in late 1943, but being 1 turret and 2 guns down wouldn't hinder her at all. Warspite embodies a true legend, the true spirit of a Dreadnought, and although she isn't around today, due to economic issues after WW2, she will never be forgotten as the greatest Dreadnought to have sailed the seas. As for her fate, she was sent to be scrapped, despite the major outcry to save the warship. Warspite however, would not go down without a fight! Breaking free of her tow ships, she sailed 22km on her own before ramming the rocks and mud of the shallow waters of Prussia Cove, sinking into the mud to the point it was impossible to move her. There she sat for 3 years while being broken up on the spot. The time she spent at Prussia Cove will never be forgotten, as many memorials exist around the area of HMS Warspite, including the bit of land closest to Warspite, named "Warspite Point" with part of her mast stuck in the ground, and Warspite Museum not being too far away. We wont forget the "Grand Old Lady" anytime soon.
My favourite songs on this album are "Stormtroopers" and "Versailles". "Hellfighters" reminds a bit of older Sabaton songs. Not one bad song on the whole album! I've been listening to it over and over.. 🤘 Awesome reaction, Alex! 💪🤘 Greetings from Sweden! 🇸🇪
This album meant alot to me, people in my family fought and died during WWI and then WWII, some of them on the front, some of them in the camps.... totalitarians are the scum of the earth.
"A king and a soldier, fighting shoulder to shoulder" I loved when he made that compromison to GoT king joffery, who was too scared to actually, fight, when I heard that song I thought of Stannis and Robb Stark, the 2 kings who actually did fight with their soldiers in GoT.
Top songs from this Album: 1.) Dreadnought 2.) Stormtroopers 3.) Hellfighters 4.) Race to the Sea 5.) Soldier of Heaven 6.) Christmas Truce These are in no particular order, but I will say I put Christmas Truce last cause they released it earlier than the album (Christmas Truce on Oct 29, 2021 and The War to End All Wars on March 4, 2022). It was released as a single and so I see it as kind of stand alone. I AM NOT in anyway saying I don't enjoy it and if you fell differently, then that is fine too. Christmas Truce is a FANTASTIC song and the Music video was BADASS as hell. Keep up the good work Alex, these videos are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
- Most catchy: Soldier Of Heaven (- Chorus only: Lady Of The Dark) - Most addictive: The Unkillable Soldier - Best lyrics: Race To The Sea - Best story to cover: Christmas Truce - Most deserved ode: The Valley Of Death (Bulgarians)
Sent The Valley of Death to a Bulgarian friend I used to work with, she was absolutely ecstatic! And it was after sending her the link that I learned that Bulgaria’s Independence Day was on the 3rd, so that was some nice timing
@@MacKnight Lol sorry bro. I honestly don't think Stormtroopers stands out that much. Maybe it's the subject, which is tactical and not heroic. I'm not sure. Great chorus though, but only 'average' verses (considering it's Sabaton).
I loved this album, every song is really enjoyable. I loved Dreadnought but can understand why others might not like it as much, I love the way they wrote Sarajevo/Versailles, Soldier of Heaven is a blast, and while I don't like The Unkillable Soldier because it's more upbeat, I appreciate it because it definitely makes sense to be like that with the story it's about. Overall, not sure it's my favourite of their albums, but I still loved it.
Dreadnought sounds different as dreadnoughts were the first modern battleships, named after the first of their kind, the British HMS Dreadnought. They were HUGE, armed with massive guns and the thickest armor fitted to any kind of warship. Thanks to that, they were quite slow. Thus, Dreadnought is a slower but still powerful melody as it imitates it's subject a matter. A slow, but immensely powerful dreadnought battleship ;)
drednaught is my absolute favourite the most hevy hitting dark deep sound in the whole album in my opinion but the whole album is a hard banger cant stop listening 🤟🔥🔥🤟
1. Dreadnoughts was a greatest ships in ww1 a predecessors of modern battleships. This ships was a most valuable piece of equipment British and Germany have and they do not want use them and risk their destruction. Can you imagine a full scale naval battle where more then 40 ships this size clash. 2. Stormtroopers was a most well equipped units in German army during this time period. Gas masks, new stailhelmets, newest MP18 submachines and Mauser C96 carabines and rapid fire variant. They use axes, shovels and maces during hsnd to hand combats in the tranches. Just night surprise attack by small force who eliminate a guard and secure forward tranche.
I played Ultimate Admirals: Dreadnoughts, a game about kitting out a hull of a ship with guns, towers, and funnels then testing them out, and just one dreadnought can quickly dispatch a small fleet. I still cannot believe MY eyes when ships fall under her firepower. I cannot imagine 20 of them against 20 similar ships.
Read Ernst Jünger’s Storm of Steel if you haven’t. I’m almost finished with it. Just got to the part about him being among the first Stormtroopers in December of 1917. This guy is definitely the definition of bad ass. Took a round to the head twice at that battle.
Dreadnought is interesting indeed. I feel like the slow, more powerful-hitting lyrics and guitar+drums is meant to sort of symbolize the slow, hard-hitting guns of a battleship. Super fucking heavy but suuuper slow pace.
@@keikaruizawa3425 Well, you can argue the british ones mainted a blockade on germany, so they did something, just not via direct combat. Good meme tho ;)
@@TheRoleplayer40k oh right 😏 I always thought the britishers were useless now it seems they've something useful atleast a few ships such as hood which too got sunk 😂 And Rodney which was tooo slow 😂
The best so far, as an author sabaton had been a kind of fuel to get some done as I write about war and conflicts, Joakim's and guys wizardship with the lyrics makes it very productive. Especially Lady in dark hits directly into my books. the second direct hit is Devil dogs
Gonna say it Alex, this vid made me sub. P.S. Those key changes at the end of Soldier of Heaven and Lady of the Dark make my seratonin flair up like nothing else.
I'd first learned about the Harlem Hellfighters many years ago so i apologize if this information is incorrect but from what i remember the 369th was not allowed to fight alongside other american units because of the preconception that they would lose morale and flee at the first signs of combat so they were stationed with nearby french forces so as to not affect the other american troops. they also were not regularly rotated off of the front lines like other troops were and were forced to hold their ground for 6 months straight without full relief which turned them into arguably the most capable and battle hardened unit of the American army during ww1.
Iirc General Pershing personally knew the African American soldiers would do well from his previous service, but he kept them separate because he didn’t think the white soldiers would allow it
just loved watching your reaction ... I m a huge Sabaton fan since Primo Vicroria ... but got into reaction videos since Christmas Truce ... Now i m hooked to your channel ... seems really legit on an emotianal level. Greeting from Ghent (50 km from where the sea lock was sabotaged to flood the Yser ... yes, in flanders fields.
My favourite definitely are Valley of Death and Race to the sea, closely followed by Stormtroopers and Sarajevo (excluding singles - Christmas Truce and Unkillable soldier)
Valley of death is growing on me at the point it could replace Dreadnought from my top, it's a really amazing song and for some reason it reminds me of Coat of arms era, one of the best songs in the album definitely.
Dreadnought is my favourite, the slow pacing yet powerful chords perfectly match the dreadnought. Second I would say hellfighters, it was time those heroes deserved to be immortalised by Sabaton! And third I would say the unkillable soldier, it just makes you feel invincible like Adrian
Dreadnought is now one of my all time favorite songs of Sabaton's now. The song is slow, powerful and hard hitting just like the Dreadnoughts themselves of WW1.
Sabaton put notes in the Spotify versions of the songs which describe what influences they drew upon for the songs as most has their own form of rock inbued within them as opposed to being a solely power metal album
Stormtroopers is my favorite, followed closely by Lady of the Dark, Unkillable Soldier, Hellfighters, and Soldier of Heaven. Any song on this album can take any spot between first (Stormtroopers) and last (Dreadnought).
Hellfighters takes the last spot for me. Too generic. It can accompany Fields Of Verdun and Hill 3234 from the previous albums. But let's not focus on the negative, here we go: 1. The Unkillable Soldier 2. Soldier Of Heaven 3. Race To The Sea / Lady Of The Dark (Cannot decide) 5. The Valley Of Death Both Stormtroopers and Dreadnought have their emphasis too much on the chorus, for me personally. They can't make it to my top 5 for that. Still solid though.
Love Race to the Sea, Dreadnaughts is special to me as my ex Navy dad told me what they were, Lady of the Dark and I adore Soldier of Heaven and Christmas Truce.
Have to admit, I put off joining the live stream because I hadn't listened to the album due to work stuff. Damn it's a fun album, alot faster paced than some of their other ones and I was 8 songs in before I even knew what was happening. Much love to you and the other Hefnerds, keep up the good work man
Little late, but I saw their first show of the new tour, never have been so hyped for any show, they were so powerful, and no matter what people think of Dreadnought, but it was so powerful live... and oh my, Christmas truce, everyone was singing, arm in arm, moving to the song
This album is their most diverse album stylistically like Joakim said in Elizabeths interview. There's the "typical" Sabaton sound but the styles are very different on many song. For example Christmas truce is a waltz wich is pretty far from power metal but still sounds like Sabaton never the less.
A fantastic album! Im so proud of being a swede when Sabaton releases soo good albums like this one❤ My absolut favorite is Race To The Sea its soo majestic and powerful!
I love Sabaton. Man everyone is sleeping on one of the best thrash albums ever. On par with Rust in Peace. It's Ironbound by Overkill. Please explore it
@@thelastgamerontheleft Sabaton is power metal. I know. Overkill is thrash. And Ironbound is awesome. Early in his channel Alex did a full react to Rust in Peace, and now this album.
Gotta say this album has hardly got any downs. The tremolo picked Riff of Stormtroopers instantly gets you going and it ends perfectly with The Christmas Truce (not counting Versailles in this) showing you a sign of sadness but also hope. Crazy good songs that are also perfectly placed in the albums sequence.
I saw Sabaton in September at the Blue Ridge Rock Festival, they rocked the house! On a heavier note, I suggest Pit of Fire by the industrial band 3 Teeth. On lighter note, Into the Light by In this Moment. (It could, quite possibly, make you cry.

Warhammer 40000 vibes

Very reminiscent ofCrimson Glory
Dreadnaught is my favorite! it really chugs along like a boat
Yeah, with just the opening I can see in my minds eye a Dreadnaught just cutting through the waves, on its way to Jutland.
Of all the songs on the album that hadn't been released early, Dreadnought is definitely my favorite.
Its my favourite from the not early released songs along with lady of the dark and stormtroopers
Damn true
Dreadnoughts is my favourite along with Lady Of The Dark
Man, Dreadnought is my favorite. You can feel the power of the ship in the song.

The sheer weight they manage to convey is insane.

Military officer: and we need to do it metal as fuck
Sabaton: writers stormtrooper
Here comes the winner of Doyran!"
The fortification tactics of general Vladimir Vazov are studied in the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst to this day. It was used during the Vietnam war - the network of tunnels created by the Vietcong was similar to the one by the Bulgarians.

I could believe he can exagurate the numbers but the important part of the battle wasn't that there were a lot of dead but that there were only british troops from the mainland, on other fronts or battles there were a lot of from the colonies.

I felt the exact same.
Reminds me of unbreakable you should check that if you haven’t
Christmas Truce is so heartfelt. If you are watching the video, it gets to you like nothing else.
You can see that when Joakim wants passionately to make a song, he makes horrifically awesome music, like Christmas Truce and Bismarck.
For this album, aside from the aforesaid songs which are my favourite of all time, Dreadnought is simply SO powerful. You listen to the chorus and you feel awe towards those beasts of the sea.
Bro I'm a Serb I just now found out that "Lady of the dark" is about Milunka Savic. What a mind blower.
The lyrics went from:
"From a shot that would change the world"
"Tensions rize and the war unfurled"
Nothing like what had come before
It's the war that wil en al war
To
Will this war really end all wars?
Can a war really end all war?
Will this war bring another war?
It's the war that will end all wars
And also the guitar starts to play these verry dissonant notes under these new lyrics
Do I'd say positive with a dark underlying message.
I'd definitely say not.
It really teases to me the quote, I wish I could remember who said it "the treaty of Versailles was a 20 year cease fire"

F***ing amazing album imo
When I’m trying to convince someone to listen to Sabaton for the first time I tell them “Imagine King Leonidas teaching history via metal” everyone is intrigued then hooked like myself
Genius
Dreadnought is the kind of song I need to get used to. But it's also an earworm, it sneaks in and suddenly I'm humming the melody. My absolute favorite right now is Race to the Sea, but I have a feeling that other songs will rise up to the top after a few more listens.
Dreadnought feels like how those WW1 Battleships are.
Slow. Plodding. Heavy. Inevitable. Awesome.
My absolute favorite right now is Stormtroopers, followed by Valley of Death and Hellfighters. But all songs are bangers in their own ways, there are no bad songs on the album
Race to the Sea is one of my favorites too. I keep finding myself singing the chorus to myself lol
ye same thing, i dont really like recent sabaton songs during first listening, but after second or third time it feels like i get the enlightement and suddenly start liking them xd
Dreadnought is my favourite so far. Very powerful and unique. I love it
Dreadnought is no filler song, it's the best song on the album.

What they mention here is the Battle of Jutland.
Awesome songs would be:
The story of CV-6 Enterprise
Battle of the Solomons
The Last Stand of Taffy 3
The tragedies of the USS Indianapolis and Juneau
and so many more.
Stormtroopers, Dreadnaught, and Soldier of Heaven are my top three. All three tied for first
For me its stormtroopers, then race to the sea, then dreadnought for my top 3
That’s actually the songs I liked right away
The others are good but i have to listen then more to get used to
@@nathanvenable6734 same for me, except race to the sea and dreadnaught are switched
Yes! And hellfighters
It’s the perfect counterpart to Sarajevo!
Is it just me, or does Dreadnaught sound like a mix between Wolfpack and Bismark? Great either way
It feels like an earlier version of the Bismarck melody, when you think of it that way it opens up the genius of it.
I think the intro and the outro has a little bit of Wehrmacht in it too, The Play and Stop of the music.
The story from Lady of the Dark is so WILD I can't lie it gets me so fuckin PUMPED this woman was a badass.
in case you're curious, shock troopers, as the name implies, are small well trained units designed for quick and sudden suprise attacks intended to disorient and break the enemy defenses.
IMO it’s their most complete album
@@tboyd2495 I love all of their stuff, but I agree that it's at least the most complete album since Heroes. The Great War was a bit too much of the same, this one however just has it all. And I love how Sarajevo and Versailles wrap it up, just what I missed on the last one, since it IS a themed album.
Sabaton usually puts 2 versions of thir albums on Spotify. One is the one currently on Spotify and the other is a "History Version" of the same album, but with the narration.
Always listen to the History version.
Dreadnought is actually an excellent change of pace. I love it, particularly in the context/flow of the album.
My only complaint about the album is it feels short. I want it to keep going.

"A king and a soldier, fighting shoulder to shoulder" I loved when he made that compromison to GoT king joffery, who was too scared to actually, fight, when I heard that song I thought of Stannis and Robb Stark, the 2 kings who actually did fight with their soldiers in GoT.
That line was actually about Albert 1 who actually served on the front line for the entire war

2.) Stormtroopers
3.) Hellfighters
4.) Race to the Sea
5.) Soldier of Heaven

These are in no particular order, but I will say I put Christmas Truce last cause they released it earlier than the album (Christmas Truce on Oct 29, 2021 and The War to End All Wars on March 4, 2022). It was released as a single and so I see it as kind of stand alone. I AM NOT in anyway saying I don't enjoy it and if you fell differently, then that is fine too.
Stormtroopers, Soldier of Heaven and lady of the dark are my favorites from this album
Lady of the Dark might be my favorite song from this album.
Huge love for the shout out to Charismatic Voice. Love you both.

drednaught is my absolute favourite the most hevy hitting dark deep sound in the whole album in my opinion but the whole album is a hard banger cant stop listening 🤟🔥🔥🤟

Hellfighters takes the last spot for me. Too generic. It can accompany Fields Of Verdun and Hill 3234 from the previous albums.
But let's not focus on the negative, here we go:
1. The Unkillable Soldier
2. Soldier Of Heaven
3. Race To The Sea / Lady Of The Dark (Cannot decide)
5. The Valley Of Death
Both Stormtroopers and Dreadnought have their emphasis too much on the chorus, for me personally.
They can't make it to my top 5 for that. Still solid though.
Lady of the Dark is one of the most underrated songs on the album IMO
Love Race to the Sea, Dreadnaughts is special to me as my ex Navy dad told me what they were, Lady of the Dark and I adore Soldier of Heaven and Christmas Truce.

Alex: This song is a slapper
Joakims' Knee: I agree 👋
This album is their most diverse album stylistically like Joakim said in Elizabeths interview. There's the "typical" Sabaton sound but the styles are very different on many song. For example Christmas truce is a waltz wich is pretty far from power metal but still sounds like Sabaton never the less.

Dreadnought gives me some pretty big Bismarck vibes, love it
