You can tell Emily is genuine about her issues because she wouldn't bring it up if it had never bothered her. As she said before she has been battling this for years. I hope that this drama can go away soon and she can rest easy without getting cyberharassed/stalked.
@@dimitriJr oh yeah you can certainly tell. I been cyberbullied and stalked, my resolution came only back in 2019, but the wounds are still there. Mine was more taunting and being told nobody would believe me. I would say if I met Emily, she'd see a bear being let loose

I am SO beyond thankful to Emily for making this video and sharing our story. She really could be a straight up detective haha! I was so burned out and exhausted with dealing with the loss of my dog during all this, and Emily took care of so much. I was so angry and frustrated that someone was doing this to us! Like Emily I would absolutely never contact a business the way the impersonator did, and be that unprofessional! Thank you for sharing our story Emily, this was a wonderfully put together video and I'm very grateful for you making this video because I'm still just SO angry they got away with it in the past! I'm glad I had your suspicious self to talk to and to help me not get scammed by them MORE ugh! I really thought it was a child at first, luckily Emily is a straight super detective! Also their email to you was almost WORD FOR WORD the one they sent me! Probably literally copy and paste.

My channel is nowhere is big as yours or Emily’s but it is happening to me. It has happened 4 times to me that I know of. This last time I couldn’t even get the company to respond. Somehow I received all of the product on the last one. I don’t even know how they got my address. But and Etsy person was involved once, and also 2 other companies. And these were the ones I was notified about. The most recent one was just about a month ago. I believe the address they used was in Oregon. I think.
These types of scams are more common than people think, but they were hitting comic cons and were old school in their approach. This lady / person / took a more modern approach. I'm extremely bummed to hear that this happened. An artist's reputation is everything especially in this digital age. The common saying of "any publicity is good publicity" that is not the case. Thankfully you both have a good base, and damn good relationships with companies for this to be exposed. Trust is hard to come by and once damaged hard to make perfect again. I have always respected how Emily has gone into providing detail, being neutral and albeit pissed the fuck off as she was, still managed to be really decent to everyone involved in how she handled the situation. Exposing them, while not being explicit shows a lot of maturity. Kudos to you girl. And one thing I don't think you have to worry about it getting too big. You are doing more than most people can do. I myself can't get in front of a camera, I have tried got excited to film it and won't go any further because of online scarring, we'll call it. You stay true to who you are. You don't have to churn out product to keep people coming to you, you don't have to post every few minutes with attention grabbing. You both are amazing at being so humble and human that in the long run you will accumulate a following that is more human than number. Keep doing you and keep being awesome. Never let someone else steal your joy and keep doing you.

My thought during the first conversation with the Etsy seller was: if you're an artist and you like my stuff so much- buy it yourself. If you really wanna support a small business because you are so sure they deserve it, there are enough other TH-camrs who buy paint and review it on there own cost. So stop begging.

Nicel, totally agree. I kept thinking that if the fake artist was so successful, why not buy the supplies. True artists will buy supplies before food and they're always interested in new stuff. Its just unbelievable to me that the real Emily has a stalker! It's such a shame that people turn frustration and laziness to aggression against others.

This is EXACTLY what is happening in the bookstagram community. I have pages and pages of research into one specific scammer who is getting free books out of book community people on instagram. It's insane! They even act like a kid and when they're caught, they act like they're the kid's aunt and the kid is in trouble.
Really? I have my own page where my poetry's been up on. I really hope my work doesn't get stolen! I hope those books come back to their rightful owners.

This all happened to me too. Thanks for sharing this and for your proactive response! I know of at least 4 vendors that were contacted posing as my channel. I alerted the vendors I knew about and at least two of them sent her actual product and were alerting authorities. One was an Etsy seller but not the one you talked about, so this reaches farther than I thought. The fact that this person had a channel is news to me, so again, thanks for that heads up. The ridiculous bragging you shared in her messages as well as the fawning product compliments made my jaw drop (after I threw up in my mouth a little). No YT creators do that stuff. I'm also glad you confirmed the messages from the "mother" were fake. A vendor shared her email with me so I sent a cease and desist notice. I got an email from her supposed "mother" and thought it seemed fake but wasn't sure. The profuse apology for her "daughter" salted with hints to drop it and let her handle it were very suspicious. I told her that was all well and good but any legal recourse was still going to be taken regardless. Never heard from her again. I will share your video with my vendors and audience. The more light this has the less likely someone will try it again.
Okay this and other verified comments are making it clear how crazy deep this scheme goes.

Hopefully all art supply businesses watch this video, if they get messaged "hey the contact info on all my bios is wrong" that's a red flag to look out for.
@@spring7643 Always make sure to contact a verified account when dealing with situations in which you might get scammed. No one should have to deal with this kind of shit and most artists will gladly send you a hi back if you're in contact on a less easy to verify platform :(

Like once a teacher of mine gave out fake money as rewards for good work and stuff, and you could use them to buy candy, stickers, etc. Then a kid made counterfeits and didn’t even do a good job cus theirs were black and white instead of color and used printer paper instead of card stock.

Never would I have fathomed somebody would do something like this - especially to you because you’re so down to earth, chill, transparent, humble, and nice to everyone. Something I have always appreciated about you is your authenticity, and for someone to take advantage of that just makes my heart hurt. Thanks for bringing awareness to this. I’m just speechless. Is anyone else terrified by how easy this person lies? How comfortable they are with making up and going along with things? I know they say lying on the internet is easier because you aren’t face to face, but the thought of doing something like this not only gives me anxiety but straight up makes me sick. And there are more people out there like this! My mom and sisters and I own a small business and it’s scary knowing someone could try to scam us like this.
There is people who literaly lie to their friends and family and tell them they have a terminal desease for money and simpathy, so this doesnt shock me one little bit.... still awful, tho

It’s terrifying how easily this person lies. A year ago (when I was 12) I was on Discord as an underaged person, lying about my age. After 3 days, I couldn’t sleep. It bothered me that much about lying so I left. It didn’t even affect anyone. And yet, this person can lie so easily, scamming small businesses who just want to sell their products.

Why are all these scammers so grammatically challenged? Whenever I get texts from scammers from my CL or FB ads they have trouble forming coherent sentences, it’s always the biggest giveaway they aren’t legitimate.
It's to make you feel like you are smarter and that if you feel doubt, that they aren't smart enough to be able to scam you.

From what I remember being told, people who overlook the giant red flag of bad grammar will look past a lot of other red flags too, and so are more likely to be "whales" to the scammer (basically they'll only get responses that almost garentee the outcome they desire).
in terms of scammers, this being suspicious when grammar is poor is a smart decision, but please don't judge people online for their poor english in other settings! english is not the first language for everyone!

Yikes, the audacity of some people. I remember small influencers writing me back when I was a small business, and I always thought that it was a bit borderline scammy anyway. At least it got sorted out! Too bad she got all that free stuff, clearly doesn't deserve any of it.
The small businesses gave police the scammer's address, so they could get the supplies back. The cynic in me says that won't happen because they would need to get a permit to enter her property, assuming she lives in a house. Usually police will only try to get an entry permit for situations where people's lives are in danger. It sucks and I wish those small businesses all the best.

@@spring7643 They only have her address so they can take her to court, assuming she is in the US. They would have to take her to small claims court, which can be expensive depending on where they live and some small claims courts do not allow the winning party to get their fees out of the losing party. If it goes to small claims court and won, the judge would order the scammer to pay back the cost of whatever she was given. They don't want used products back. They can do nothing to recoup their losses with used property.

@@umairashraf5167 I think it’s the stalker she mentioned who was stalking her for a decade, not the lady trying to get free art supplies.
@TP Emily has already confirmed her long time stalker has been Shannon. The situation of someone stealing her identity to companies for free supplies is a separate situation to her stalker.

Ugh, I can't imagine how uncomfortable and gross it must feel to have someone impersonate you like that, and how heart-breaking it must be for those businesses to find out they lost so much. Congrats on not letting this slip by while at the same time being respectful and not trying to get this person dogpiled.
Also the painting is absolutely gorgeous, and I love that masking stuff you put around the edges before doing the flowers - reminds me of the liquid silicone you can get to put around fingernails before painting them. Smart stuff!

What a gross situation. I'm glad you followed up and didn't let it slide. I'm also grateful you didn't turn this into the all-too-common witch hunt that's been plaguing social media the last few years. Allow the local authorities and laws to handle the situation. Once someone calls someone else out in public, no matter how justified they may feel and/or be, the resulting lynch mob that forms is just as awful as the initial offense.
I love how people thought you outsourced your art. Its always obvious to your actual fans because we know about your scar on your hand (kinda always proof that it's you).
I am a bookbinder and it takes a lot of time. I love my craft but giving them away for free isn’t something I take lightly. So glad I saw this video especially since I make art supplies because I would’ve never guessed that someone would even think to do this

@@graaceie bookbinding is one of those things that you get better with the more you do it. So watch videos (Sea Lemon on TH-cam is great to start) and there’s a great community on Reddit. They all have nice tips but as you go along you’ll develop your own technique. My biggest recommendation is to invest in the materials you use rather than any fancy equipment like a bookpress or sewing cradle. That means higher quality paper, bookboard, bookcloth etc.

I am terrible at art, I don’t watch art youtubers, but I still watched this entire video. I would’ve never thought that someone would have the audacity to do something like that, and I can only begin to understand how frustrating and worrying that experience was for you. Thank you for sharing this story to educate people, but in a way that doesn’t cause drama or involve “exposing” people.
21:41 For anyone who is struggling with money: please never feel like you have to spend more than you can afford on art supplies. The best paints I have found are in the low-medium price range. I thought I would mention this for any artists who believes they can't draw without pricey art supplies.
Yeah. Like sure, if you get shitty children's paint are gonna make creating arts like 5 times more more difficult BUT! There are plenty of good quality art supplies at an affordable price. Look at online reviews etc, at people trying art supplies out. You're bound to find an art supply best suited to your price range and painting style. For example don't overdilute acrylic for watercolor effect, just get some watercolors. Or don't lay watercolor on too thickly without any water or that's gonna cost you, just go get acrylic or gouache. And stuff like that. Because while yes, the expensive stuff (copic, polychromos etc) does make a difference in quality or painting experience there's similiar stuff that does almost just as well at a way lower price range. At some point some brands prices are only that high because of the brand and not just because of quality anymore
You don't need to spend thousands of dollars on supplies. You could make beautiful art with a pencil you found on the ground or paper you got from a printer
I just wanted to say there’s no shame in wanting to stay a “smaller” creator. Some people don’t want any of the spotlight, some people want a little bit of it, some people want it all.

I appreciate you posting this story, Emily! As a small business owner, it's good to reminded why it's important to be cautious and sure when dealing with requests for free product. Luckily we've only had a couple requests like that and they felt gross both times. You're awesome for doing what you could to protect those small businesses effected!

Because they are only emboldened when they hide behind a computer screen and feel they are less likely to get caught. Probably assume that the businesses wouldn't do anything about it if they got caught. There is also a good chance that someone like that is also stealing from stores as well.

To be honest the email that the "mom" sent you sounds a lot like the person who wrote the Etsy company. Just the vibe. The over explaining and hopes and prays type of vibe, run on sentences...etc. Its definitely the same person. I am 99% positive. Sadly, this type of manipulation is common. Anywho. Also, you 100% deserve ALL THE SUCCESS and your channel growing and getting bigger doesn't necessarily mean you lose that intimacy. Look at Markiplier, who has over 27m followers, yet somehow manages to connect so personally with each and every person, who has been able to participate in Make A Wish, and who is just in general a positive and uplifting presence on this platform. I would put you on par with him, but for art TH-cam (vs gaming TH-cam, which is Markiplier's niche.) We really do need more of that.

Here’s the deal, you do need to call scam artists and con artists out for their horrible behavior as the situation won’t get better, just worse. They’ll hop from creator to creator impersonating them and scamming businesses and sellers and continue to do that until they’re legally prosecuted. Most scam/con artists get away with it for so long because artists don’t want to give it the time of day or don’t have the funds to take the person to court.
I like to work on my own art while I listen to videos, including story times. So honestly, BLESS YOU Emily for reading out all the messages instead of leaving them on the screen to read, which would distract me from my work. You're the best!

It’s almost 2 am here. I am taking care of a very injured little puppy. Sometimes I can’t sleep because he’ll kind of squirm if he’s in extra pain. 1 - I felt like this video was so well done. You explained the situation, added your emotional involvement, without trying to add fuel to the fire if you still. 2 - I’ve never seen a more beautiful watercolor piece and I cannot wait to spend the rest of my sleepless evening watching the rest of your videos.
