i love what you did with cedar. i am not experienced but i have found in thrift stores the old Lane cedar boxes from 1940-1950. i haven't known how to finish them. i like your technique and will break out the ole' sander. great job! thanks.
Leila Dunn I allow 1/2 hr. to 2 hrs. It is best to read the instructions on the can. With lacquer, the second and additional coats remelt the previous coat for a good bond. You hardly ever have to sand between coats because lacquer dries to the touch in about 20-30 minutes. If it looks glazed when dry, just use 0000 steel wool to dull it down, then if needed finish with paste wax. Thanks for the view and comment.

You're quite welcome.
Looks very nice! Thank you.
Thanks.
Looks fantastic...but Why delute the shellac with alcohol? Is it so it will dry quicker?
How much time did you allow for drying between coats?
...Is it necessary to sand between coats?
Very nice btw.

Hi. Can I use tung oil first and then polyurethane or epoxy as the final coat? Thx.
You can do that. The way cedar soaks up finishes it may add a layer of depth early this way.
I think I would be worried about all the lint from those paper towels....
my question answered
dose dewaxed shelac help on the finisd ?
