  • How to Install Android Apps on Chromebooks, and enable Google Play with Google Workspace.
    This video is for Super Admins and owners of Google Workspace in their company.
    In this video we will show you how to configure your Google Workspace account (formerly GSuite) so that your users can access Google Play, and install Android apps on their Chromebooks.
    This will also allow you to manage Android devices in your organisation.
    We dip into the permissions, permissive or restrictive, for managing the apps that can be installed.
    Go to admin.google.com - Billing - Subscriptions
    In the left menu select Devices and Android Management
    Follow the process to enable this and add to your account. It's free.
    From there go to Devices - Chrome - Apps & extensions - Users & Browsers
    Click on Additional Settings and find the 'Android applications on Chrome devices. Change this to Allow apps on the Google Play store.
    In the Allow/block area decide if you want to allow all apps (at your users discretion) or if you will maintain a list of the apps they are allowed to install (more secure, but more work for you).

    A HUGE thanks for this...after a long chat with Google Pixelbook help they had NO IDEA what to do apart from suggesting a "hard reset"...I hoped there would be someone out there who might know better....excellent stuff.

    Thank you so much for this video! I couldn't find the information about having to add the Android management subscription first and hence never got this option in the device - app & extension setting screen. Now everything is working as expected. Thanks again.

    Thanks so much for this informative video. Quick question: how does the "Managed Google Play" app that you said to click work in a our school district that has Google Workplace for Education and Android Management subscriptions? As IT Support, it is helpful to have a strong understanding of all the apps and install options. Very helpful video!

    • @SixfiveAu
      @SixfiveAu  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Managed Google Play app enables the ability to manage Android apps on your user's devices. It's not an app that your users will see, it simply enables the ability within Google Workspace.

    Gread video - Quick question - Do you assign the App's on the OU with the Chromebooks in, or the OU with users?
    Many Thanks

    • @SixfiveAu
      @SixfiveAu  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Danny, You would put the app settings in the OU with the user. At the end of the day, if the Chromebook changes hands and is used by multiple people it can behave differently based on the human - therefore your settings should be based on the person, their role and level of access.

    Great tutorial thank you, but I have the same problem as erb rdr.... I have android device mgmt subscription but when i get to the Additional Application Settings in Users and Browsers, I do not have that part to 'allow'. My section starts with Allowed types of apps and extensions. Is there a way to fix this or another way to do it? Thank you!

    • @SixfiveAu
      @SixfiveAu  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have 'Managed Google Play' enabled in Apps > Additional Google services?

  • @leoluno
    @leoluno ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry, I did not get it quite right. Does it mean as long as you have Google Workspace subscription you can enable Play Store in all Chromebooks ? Dell Chromebook 11 3120 model ( as per google info 3180 model has it enabled). New to this OS, been reading , researching, but there are some conflicting answers. Also noticed that in this video description you mentioned this tutorial is only for Super Admins and owners of Google Workspace in their company. So if I subscribe to Google Wspace, will I be able to "turn this feature on or bring it to life" even if Chromebook does not support Play Store?
    Thanks in advance.

    • @SixfiveAu
      @SixfiveAu  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not aware that specific Chromebooks do not support the Play Store apps - that would be research you would need to complete on that particular model. If the model does not support it, I don't think that activating it in Google Workspace will result in the Chromebook getting that feature.

      @@anthonyyenshaw8666 @erbrdr @SixfiveAu if for some reason this is still happening to you a year later, as it did with me, I had to remove the subscription to Android Management, re-add it, and then the option appeared.

  • @aimutch

    If you enable the Play Store, how do users access that on the Chromebook? I don't see that appearing as an icon for quick access.

    • @SixfiveAu
      @SixfiveAu  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty quickly, it will start installing once everything is in place. Did you enable the Android management? th-cam.com/video/B_4pucbJZgY/w-d-xo.html
