Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has committed to the club until at least 2027 after his contract was extended.
The Spaniard's existing deal still had two years to run but he has agreed terms for an additional 12 months.
Villa are also keen to sit down with the 52-year-old in the summer and discuss a new longer-term contract.
Emery has done an impressive job at Villa Park, guiding them from a relegation fight when taking over from Steven Gerrard in November 2022 to the brink of Champions League qualification this season.
They are also in the semi-final of the Europa Conference League, where they play Olympiakos, and are the favourites to win the tournament which would represent a first European trophy since 1982.
Due to his impressive work at Villa Park, he was recently linked with the vacant Bayern Munich managerial position, while a number of other top European clubs will be looking for managers this summer and might have targeted the former Sevilla, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain boss.
After Emery guided them to a seventh-placed finish last season, Villa have kicked on this term and are in pole position to finish fourth and qualify for the Champions League for the first time.

As a Villa fan of 35 years, I’m in heaven. Emery will go down as Villa’s Ferguson, I have no doubt.
Clown time is it? Emery is average at best. Gerrard built that team and gets no credit
@@HappyBob701 You’re right… clearly clown time.
@@HappyBob701In all fairness if you want to you use your own logic then really it was Dean Smith who built the core martinez Douglas Luiz Watkins mings konsa cash Bailey beundia all under Smith only 2 signings from Gerrard are digne and kamara
Dean smith had a lot to do with this squad. Emery has just added the finishing touches with his master class coaching. One of the best in the world for me Emery !

@@HappyBob701 Building a team isn't when you buy the players. Building a team is about creating unity and free flowing teamwork, turning the individuals into a system of play and getting everyone to work as a team. Yes Gerrard PURCHASED some of Aston Villa's current team but it was Unai Emery's work on this team that has taken Aston Villa from a bottom-half team facing relegation to a UCL contender and a top 4 side.
Fantastic
Great man and manager- We are going places UTV
Totally agree ❤
I'm a lifelong Villa fan from when my Dad would take me in the early 1980's. This is nothing short of dreamland. Long may he stay...
This won't stop Sky presenters and pundits touting him to other clubs constantly.
That’s true. But contracts mean nothing especially with managers.
liverpool or united come knocking and he,ll leave u in a heartbeat
@@stephenjames227I don’t think so. Remember last time he went to a big club and it didn’t end well. I think he is good as an underdog manager and winning Europa leagues but not a big club mananger

@@derickjd5274 Up the Villa
Deserved! Emery is doing a fantastic job at Villa! Even though it's a one year extension, I feel Unai will take Villa to new levels!
Yes one year isn't loads. Not sure this is really the news that it's made out to be. This is an extremely standard contract extendor which implies almost nothing to Emery's chances of going to another club. I don't think he will anytime soon, but this news isn't quite irrelevant to that.
The full statement talks about the owners, Unai and Monchi sitting down in the summer to discuss a much longer contract. This extension was signed as a message from Emery and the club that at a time when a number of clubs are looking for new managers he will not be involved. It means the media clickbait bus will find no story here. What fans at other clubs don't quite understand is the level of control he has at Villa is very different to the usual set-up at clubs. Every staff appointment is his and Monchi's choice. There is a freedom that probably only the likes of Ferguson and Wenger had. The investment into Emery's family club Real Union, his son Lander being a GK at the Academy. Creating a legacy and building something without interference from above is far more appealing than 'managerial musical chairs'. He's been at PSG, he was treated poorly by Arsenal. There is probably 2 jobs that at some point in the future he may wish to experience before he retires. Neither of those jobs are in England or Germany.
It's understandable why people say if so-and-so come in or he'll earn more money at....etc. Because that's how it normally works. But anyone who knows the game prior to the Premier League will know that Villa are a huge club with a massive fanbase, both in this country and globally, and if the right combination of owners, manager and players are in place (and the first two already are) then Villa fan be a constant fixture in the Top 6 challenging for Top 4 and silverware in domestic cup competitions. Knowledgeable fans in this country who know that the passion in the Midlands is just as intense as the North-West and London.
Newcastle will be entering this equation also, a big city with just one club, hugely passionate fans and unlimited funds. A changing of the guard in English football should be celebrated or it does just become stale. Most of the negative barbed comments are from fans who don't live in the country that their team is from. Villa fans will enjoy the ride and at some point there will either be large scale redevelopment of Villa Park and the surrounding area or potentially a move to a new stadium. Villa have the 4th/or 5th, depending on which source you go with, richest owners in the Premier League and in the Top 10 of all clubs globally. Chelsea and Manchester City were not as big a club as Villa were before their takeovers. Leicester City had 2 phenomenal seasons but they didn't have the base and the revenue streams to maintain that. Villa have a stronger foundation and can enjoy success because no-one knows how long it will take Man United and Chelsea to return to the top
Yeah but the media said he was going Utd or Bayern 😂
Lol bro they forgot real madrid
UTV 💜💙 I still can’t believe our luck, and it keeps getting better and better. Absolute elite of the sport.
Yayyyy Unai ❤❤❤❤❤
We are very lucky to have him, will never forget how Dean Smith clawed us back from the brink (the man is a hero), and now Unai Emery has really shown why he is a truly World Class Manager. After relegation and things looking very bleak for the club, the new ownership should be commended for everything they have done to turn our fortunes around. It is now a very well run club, long may that continue.
Villa is gonna achieve so much
Just give him a lifetime contract at this point.
Apparently according to Ornstein we're trying to make him our Sir Alex Ferguson in the Summer so basically Ron Saunders if he was treated right 😅
It's v good news for me, fan n epl... Fan malaysia ❤
He's the best
he is a legend already up villa
Not a Villa fan but it's been great to watch the transformation under him, hopefully he's there long enough for some silverware and doesn't get poached by a massive club soon.
Good move Villa - lots of big jobs sniffing around for him in the summer
Great manager
Brilliant, he was never gonna go to that small club United
That’s good he a good manager I’m an arsenal fan so his done well for villa had he given time at arsenal the club would be better but doesn’t matter
For me,I'm a big fan of Emery because when Villa wanted this man to the football club,I personally believed that they wanted to play in europe which was the main objective and they did,now they have a chance to win something, and signed a new contract was in my opinion the right decision, for Emery and the board.Villa fans, you've got your man,I have no doubt in my mind, they could do something special to achieve, the group of players they have.👍
We are going places UP THE VILLA
He defo won't leave until he wins Villa a Trophy to cement his football philosophy and legacy in the Premiership. Also, he will NEVER get the complete control and best working environment, with total Owners and fans 100% backing support anywhere else like Villa again. He knows that IF he moves to Madrid or Barca in future years, he HAS to win a Trophy with Villa to bargain with and get full managerial control at those Clubs! Otherwise they could a Arsenal or PSG on him again! It also possible that if Villa continue to progress and get the transfer backing he gets from very ambitious Owners, that he NEVER leaves Villa! Unai wants a Premeir League & Champs League on his C.V before he retires thats For Sure! Best moment in our Illustrious Club History since 1981 Title & 1982 European Cup win! About time! All hail The Birmingham Sultan of Unai! 👏🙏
And yet the media will still be like he will go United or summit hahaha
Which top manager would wanna go to United these days
@@no1arab502I’ve been asking that question for ages, since Ferguson they have struggled to attract elite managers at the top of their game. Van Gaal was finished when he joined, David Moyes was never an elite manager, Mourinho was past his best (although he did very well), Soljskaer who will never be an elite manager, Ten Hag who had a very good career at Ajax but again not elite. So I just don’t get it. They’re not this juggernaut that no manager would reject them that many people think they are.
@@JuliusSeizure-tw6mi I understand your frustration mate but this is united we talking about to big of a big club to be were they are sure they’ll be back on contention for the title sooner rather than later. Remember Liverpool after Dalgliesh left don’t think it will take that long tho.

Great news
Unai Emery being another George Ramsay has to be the dream...Fergie was an uncouth, foul-mouthed chequebook manager and no man to emulate.
Just remember that this manager was not deemed an "elite" manager when he was at Arsenal, and look how things changed. It doesn't mean that he nor Arsenal were bad, it was just the circumstances at that time. No one becomes a bad or good manager overnight.
change? hes still not an elite manager. next you'll be booking a bus parade for 4th. small club mentality.
@@ksptm4jokeman
All the muppet journalists don't understand his relationship with the club and the relationship with the owners. Sorry Sky "big six".
Let's hope Barry comes back to County
Elite
Only one year he might ad well gave got five years he can build something special at villa
The full statement says that Villa's owners and Unai will sit down in the summer and discuss and plan a much longer contract. But the structure of that is important and the business end of the season is not the time to go into that. Many fans remember the 8-year contract handed out to Alan Pardew at Newcastle.
Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens would like Emery to be Villa's Sir Alex Ferguson or Arsene Wenger. That's not saying they expect anything like the success that Ferguson had, he's one of the all-time greats. It means they want the longevity, where he has the time to build the club and not just build one team, but to have some success and then build a new team for the next era. But with 4 Premier League games and 2 semi-finals and hopefully a final in Europe, now was the right time to close down any disruptive media distractions. The summer is likely the time when a new contract, not just an extension, will be drawn up
But but but he was going to jump ship to manure wasn’t he??? 😅🙈🤣
They made sure Liverpool dont try their luck
Hold
Uhh... he got his revenge on Arsenal this season didn't he
And still behind Arsenal lol
He's only just getting started...
Needed to be till 2030 at least
Don't worry this is just to say he's off the market it's reported that the owners are sitting down with him in the summer to make him our SAF according to David Ornstein which is quite a reliable source
football fans are very naive ro think just because a manager signs a new contract or a player then they will stay at that football club for the duration of that contact money talks 🤔

@joebees21 it's normally the non manc glory hunters that have a chip on their shoulders. Unai Emery has done an excellent job at Aston Villa since he replaced that overrated dimwit Steven Gerrard. The contract extension is well earned.

Maybe after you give SG a try. Cheerio!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Villa take Eric Ten Hag PLEASE 😭
2027 - even the original 2026 - is such a long way from now in football terms that you shouldn’t be surprised if Villa sack him long before that should they be faced with changing fortunes on the pitch.
It's just temporary to get the media off our backs it's reported the owners are sitting down with him in the summer to bolster it.
I think they gave it to soon😂what if he doesn't get top four this season and ends the season 7th💀🤌
7th? Have you seen the table?
7th is still decent considering what Villa invests.

Arsenal: 5th place finish and Europa League runner-up (With a comparatively poor Arsenal team and having taken the helm from a manager who had been with them 20 years, this is a remarkable outcome.)
Villarreal: Europa League (x1)
Aston Villa: from 16th when he took over to 7th at the end of the season (qualified for the Europa Conference League)
