    My husband and I (Minnesotans) saw Fargo in the theater and couldn't stop laughing on our way home because we kept hearing our own accents and colloquialisms while talking about the film. It made us aware of it. I'd always assumed we didn't have a regional accent. Little did I know.
    I have to add that the topography of Minnesota is really varied and stunning. So much more than flat farm fields. Beautiful state.

      I’m glad to hear that. At the time, a lot of Minnesotans at the time of the movie’s release were offended by the “exaggerated” accents, but I think most people assumed it was exaggerated to some degree for comedic effect and could only be done in that way by people who are from there like the Coen Brothers were.

    Adore this movie. Really appreciate that you do the trivia bit at the end of each reaction. It’s a great way to learn more about the films. I actually wish more reactors would do stuff like that.
    A couple of things about Fargo that are cool to know as well: the actress who played the wife of William H. Macy isn’t the same woman who has a hood on her head in the rest of the film. That’s an extra since it cost less money to pay an extra to wear a sheet on their head. Also, there’s one distinct parking lot scene where you can see no snow in the distance since they used artificial snow in most scenes. Just a slip-up on their part.

    I saw this movie when it was released in the cinema. Already knew it was an inside joke, that this movie was not based on a true story, but like it says ''This is a true story'', which it is, a true original story! I laughed so hard (I was by myself, and never laughed so hard at a movie in the cinema before, with no company at all), especially when the cop got killed, and how Steve Buscemi's reacted with ''Oh Daddy!''. After that scene, two women left the theatre, probably they thought it was really based on a true story, and it was (what I think) in their opinion very inappropriate to make fun on a true crime story. Greetings from The Netherlands.

And watch them in order to see their progress in filmmaking, even if they started strong with Blood Simple (and yes, Frances McDormand was in that too almost 40 years ago).
    If you twist my arm to recommend one, it has to be Miller's Crossing from 1994, even if Frances only has a small uncredited role. It has people that have become standard cast of the Coens, like Steve Buscemi, John Turturro and Jon Polito. But the real star is the late Albert Finney who has his most badass movie moment before lighting up his cigar in the street. I'm vague to avoid spoilers.
    But the movie is mostly about hats, according to the Coens. :)

    So glad to see this. Fargo is one of my favorite films of all time. Such a great dark comedy. Some of the funniest scenes in film history-my favorites being the snow shoveling conversation and meeting the old classmate. My dad and I consistently quote this movie.

    Not sure how interested you are in TV, but the Fargo TV show is absolutely amazing. The first two seasons especially. It's not like a remake or anything of this movie, it's just new stories told in this kind of dark, comedic, Fargo-y way. Truly, truly some of the best TV of the last decade, however. Highly recommend to check out in your personal time.

    A word of advise. If you have witnessed a murder on a long straight road at night, and the killers are coming after you, get away as fast as you can safely drive. Crashing is just as much a death sentence as being caught.
    If you can get far enough ahead turn off your headlights. Do not use your normal break.
    If you can turn off the main road, do so, using only your parking break to slow down. Your parking break is not as effective so it will take a long time to slow down using it, but it will not turn on your break lights.
    Make every effort to disappear and do not assume, if you lose your chaser that they will give up looking for you easily.
    If you have time write down as many details of what you saw as you can and hide the note with your car's other paperwork, or on your person. Preferably not in your underpants. If you are caught and murdered, at least you can provide the police with some clue to who murdered you. Keep in mind, your chances of surviving something like this are not very good, but if you are smart, and you don't panic your chances improve by quite a bit.
    You are still a lot very likely to survive, but you need every chance you can get. The note is there just so you can still give the police your witness report even after you are dead.
    Good luck. Best not to witness a murder at all. Trust me. I witnessed one and came very very close to being a second victim. It scared the hell out of me. But it is possible to survive something like this, even if survival isn't likely.

    One of the best movies ever! I love how the criminals are all so amazingly stupid. Jerry pays ex cons with a car that can be traced back to where he works. He's paying them $40k to pick up a bag with a million dollars in it. The kidnappers forget to put their tags on their car. Carl thinks he's being smart by stealing plates from another car, but then chooses a place that probably has cameras and then makes a huge scene with the toll gate guy to make sure he is clearly remembered. It goes on and on. The only smart character in the story, besides Margie, is Jerry's kid who asks all the questions that the adults should be asking. It's total Keystone cops!

    • @ComicCrossing
      @ComicCrossing 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well the 40k thing wasnt really Jerrys fault was it? He intended to take the money himself but the father in law insisted on doing it instead. He wouldve switched out the money and given the 80k to the ransomers who wouldve assumed that was all the money.

    • @norwegianblue2017
      @norwegianblue2017 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ComicCrossing As if the kidnappers wouldn't have looked into the money bag before handing it over to Jerry--if they even gave it to him at all. One of the countless things that Jerry should have considered.

    • @ComicCrossing
      @ComicCrossing 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@norwegianblue2017 I'm saying Jerry probably assumed he would get the money from his father in law, take out the rest on his way over and give the kidnappers the case with 40k in it. Not that his father in law would insist on being so involved.

I found the accents to b a little 'over-pronounced' as well. At least in the small sample sizes I've seen/ heard... it made the movie more unique and standout more tho...
