    In Australia they have the same teachers teach calculus and intro to multiplication?

    That is a weird way to divide: Where I grew up, we put the Divisor and the Dividend on the sides opposite you did, and then multiply and subtract. Where is your one taught? It sounds faster for mental doing

      My mother learned this variant in Mexico (City). So it‘s kinda all around the world. I think it depends on the school.

      @casenc , are you referring to Long Division? (Look it up on Google to see a picture). If so, Long Division is indeed longer and more complicated (hence the name), but it's also much more powerful because it can easily deal with dividing by numbers bigger than 10. Whereas the shortcut method in this video is really only practical for dividing by numbers 2 through 9.

      Long division makes much more sense to me for dividing 1964 by 5.
