  • This is a simple method onHow to correct baseline ? How to remove / correct / subtract Background from XRD graph, spectroscopic data, Raman spectroscopy, FTIR or XPS etc. In this method I showed how you can subtract baseline in Origin without any knowledge of Matlab, Python or any coding. This is very simple and useful method. The previous video on smoothing your data : • How to smooth graph | ... #backgroundsubtraction #RemoveBaseline #origin #originpro #originlabFollow Us

    Hi InSciLab,
I have question about your video.
1/ When was we need to remove background ?
2/ When we receive data from analysis lab, how we know they remove background ?
3/ I would like to draw XRD spectrum, Is it neccessary to remove background
I hope I would receive your answer soon.
    Thanks InSciLab.

1/ You know the standard pattern of your sample. If you think the experimental pattern is not matching with the standard pattern, only because there is a rough background, the you can remove. In some cases you can explain better if you remove the background. There can be experimental data obtained from a good instrument and the sample is highly crystalline. In this case you don't need to remove background as the intensity of pattern will be much more than the background.
2/ Nobody removes the background unless you ask them to do. Secondly, you don't need to know that. If you understand by looking at your pattern that removing background can do better then do it, otherwise don't..
3/ Not always necessary to remove. Try to understand more about the pattern from papers and other peoples work. Then you will know if you need it or not...
      Take care!

Sir, the point that we need to do this for our XRD data is to make the peak to see more clear right?

If you want, you can keep the background. You can see the difference between before and after subtracting

@@InSciLab If we want to calculate crystallite size, is it necessary to perform smoothing & baseline correction?

@@emmagal14 Hi Emma. Did you know the answer of your question? I am now trying to calculate the same as you and i have the same doubt. I will appreciate if you answer me. Thank you.

@@dianaarciniegas2850 I think baseline correction is a must.. However, if the data has too much of noise, I prefer to smoothen it as I can't see where to put my range.. Hope it helps

I have no knowledge. A friend said, it is possible.
