    Thank you so much for this video. Prior to seeing this video I tried to figure things out by looking at the manual, which was like trying to read a book written in a foreign language. After I watched this video several times, I was able to find the LED light, figure out the problem, purchase the ignitor from Amazon for $20 with free shipping, and followed your instructions, and I have heat. THANK YOU SO MUCH. As a woman, the furnace was something I would not dare tackle. I am so proud of myself. The amount of money this video saved me is beyond words. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You have a fan.

    This was so helpful! I never would have attempted a repair like this if you hadn't walked through the whole process in this video. I don't consider myself handy, but this was really empowering. Thanks for getting me through the tail end of a Minnesota winter!

    Omg! Thank you for this video. I ordered the part on Amazon for $20 and fixed my heater following your instructions. I saved at least $200. Thank you! Thank you!

    Thanks so much! I simply can’t believe I did this!
    I’ve been neglecting service, but the last time I had it, the tech said I could do this and I thought he was nuts, but I ordered the parts anyway, thinking I would have them when I called him back.
    I was caught off guard, so I came here and found this great video. I replaced the flame sensor first, then the filter, then the ignitor. I’ll still call the service out to check my work, but at least I won’t freeze waiting for them or go broke on the parts.

    Thanks for the video. I have a Ruud, but this gave me the confidence to go ahead and try the repair.
    Since I have 2 units and the bad one was downstairs, I was able to make do for about a week to order the part on Amazon. It was about $20 there (shipping included) and HD wanted $59.
    Just finished the repair and now have a warm house up and down!

    Great video. Very informative. My husband took the ignitor out and I'm going to HVAC parts store tomorrow. I hope they sell the universal part. We woke up with no heat today, but thank God we have an electric fireplace for backup heat.

      If they are cheap enough, buy two of them. It's never bad to have spare furnace parts. Especially universal ones.

    Just wanted to say thanks for the video, it made sure to tell you exactly what to do and not to do and even went into detail about additional problems you could be having. I was able to go to my local store and replace my igniter today after it went out, the last time this happened it was a cost about 180$ but doing it myself I only had to pay 43$ for the part!

    Adam, trick was to break the connector of the old part. OR, you slip a thin small flathead into the connector to widen the old connector. I spent 10 minutes pushing from the outside, then realized my small flathead fit inside through the top, where the connectors meet. At that point, I was getting annoyed and said, Stodnod, you don't need the old part. And then it broke. Five minutes later, I saw the light, rather the red glow. Thank you for posting. I have a Carrier. Igniter part LH33ZS004. Good luck to all DIYers.

    I have a different model, the LEDs for error codes are yellow and green, so rather than the duration of flashes, it's 1st digit of error code is the yellow flash, the 2nd digit is green flashes.... I was thinking it was the igniter since I observer that the induction fan started normally, and the gass-valve solenoid clicked, normally, and I smelled gas., etc. So it seemed that the gas just wasn't lighting. HSI igniter failure?!? After 17 years, seemed plausible. So glad to have this video available, gave me confidence to try a DIY

      P.S. On Bryant model 355MAV installed 2001: Had to remove air intake pipe to get at ignitor. Then found that ...dang, unlike the video, my ignitor does NOT have a nice fat obvious crack in it. And just enough very light whitish stuff to cast doubt. Checked ohms as advised in manual, found that it is outside the normal range of 45-90 (104.5), yet below the threshold (>110) where they say I have to replace it. It does not glow during "component test." (see manual pg 35 in my case) I have lit the jets and gotten some heat out of the unit by using a longnose butane lighter. But being there to do that when it kicks on will be tiresome. So, wondering about an upstream defect. Ignitor-solenoid? I'll keep trying....

    Thanks for the video. The label i have on my furnace did not have a faulty ignitor as a possible cause for the error, but this video led me to inspect the unit and i noticed it didn't light up during the cycle and when i removed it, there was a break similar to the unit in this video. Quick trip to home depot and the universal unit worked great. Thanks again!!

    Great video! I had already determined this was my problem (blower, fan, and gas were all coming on but no glowing element). I broke the old one getting it out and was hoping to see someone put a new one in so I could see how it's turned or angled (and of course that's where you cut the video). Any chance you could describe the process, I'm nervous about breaking the new one installing it. Thanks!

    Great info.. But what is the trick to disconnect the quick connect?

    • @AdamDIY
      @AdamDIY  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are little plastic clips on nearly all of these kind of plastic wire connecters that you need to move so it can be released. Most times you can use your fingers, on stubborn ones you can use a flathead screwdriver.

    Any recommendations for a Bryant Plus 95s evolution? We just closed on a house after paying literal hundreds of dollars for a licensed inspections. The first evening we try and use the heat, it doesn't work. Error code 34. This is a gas heater with no pilot light. It is equipped with some kind of auto lighting device but no idea what I'm doing.

    • @AdamDIY
      @AdamDIY  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Robb Kelley The furnace goes through specific steps in a certain order. That will be valuable info in helping you find your problem. In this link th-cam.com/video/5CDF0duucpQ/w-d-xo.html I show the steps it goes through and mine stopped at the bad ignitor. Is yours the same? If so, it's a super easy fix if you need to replace the ignitor.

    • @RobbKelley
      @RobbKelley 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      AdamDIY Adam, I will have to replace the ignitor just as you said. However and embarrassingly I found the true issue. We moved into a new house and the utility company mistakenly turned off our gas line. We are back in business and I will use your other video to fix the weakening ignitor.

    How did you disconnect those connectors? I spent like 3 hrs trying to do it without breaking it, still couldn't do it. It really is impossible.

    • @paja7647
      @paja7647 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glenn Lee OMG, the connector to remove the old ignitor was the hardest part. I was afraid of tearing it apart the wrong way, but I finally just got a good pull on the old ignitor and held the other side in place and the ignitor came off just right.

    Hey Andrew, the fan of my furnace sometimes spins and sometimes does not, when it does not spin basically nothing happens, even if i leave the furnace on for a while. I clean the flame sensor, but that does not fix the problem. what do you think can cause this issue?

      Thanks for getting back to me! No, the red LED is solid, no flashing. Sometimes the system does not run, the fan does not spin and the ignitor does not do anything. Without doing anything, sometimes it runs. Thanks

    • @AdamDIY
      @AdamDIY  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can buy them on Home Depots website and they ship it to your nearest store or your home. Just type "ignitor" in Home Depot's search and you will find them. I'm almost certain Lowes and H.D. don't stock them in the store. I called a local HVAC repair place for one and they would not sell it to me. So I asked them where the nearest local place was that sells them and they told me. allreds.net/ Thats a Utah store, but I'm sure there are places like that across the country.

  • @daksmom1999

    My furnace has an automatic ignition system. The "on/off button" is stationary, but there is a slit in the middle of that button, and there are two toggle switches, or gas control switches as the instructions call them. Does anyone know which switch I flip, or turn to the off position so that the furnace then will light itself? The switch gets turned to the off position for five minutes, then when it gets turned back to the ON position, the furnace should relight, provided there is nothing else wrong with the furnace. I just don't know which switch is the correct one t turn to the off position.
