Love the video! After all our beloved elephant facts, it's now time to start with elephant fiction! Years past, I once had too much time on my hand and did an elaborate plan for some northern indian mountain civ around area Lhasa, (including a bunch of things that we now actually have with the mountain civs from last DLC :3 ), and I figured an elephant scout with a unique tech that allows using it as a lumberjack was an obvious feature. As you said, after "scout on foot" and "scout on horse", we obviously need "scout on elephant". ... that reminds me, we need a scout siege unit. Then again, I suppose that's kind of a siege tower. Edit: Seing them all side by side at the end, I kind of want an elephant that combines the siege elephant aesthetic with a rider on top. Could be a civ that can switch them between high melee and pierce armour for some added needless complexity. + it'd look cool. And what gives, no suggestion for an elephant skirmisher?
I think a flying elephant would make an excellent scout. And for damage I can easily see entire villages getting abandoned when a fleet of flying elephants start 💩-ing over the town center 🤣🤣
I'm incredibly surprised you didn't think of the one Elephant that makes sense: ELEPHANT GURU. Put a Hindu Monk on an elephant! It would also need a proper Hindu name, of course. Can the Indians in the chat help me with this one? 300HP, keeps pace with the elephants, heals them up nice, isn't mogged by silly scouts. Anyway. All elephant units have this in common: SLOWER, BEEFY and COSTLY: Elephant Scout: improved line of sight. Can safely torment wood lines. Trade Cartephant: hauls DOUBLE the gold. Elephant Lancer: +2 melee range, yes please. You see a mass of these, you KNOW all your melee options are instantly thrown off the window. Petardephant: NUKES, YES. Flame Elephant: nah. Mangonelephant: nah. Trebephant: are you being silly? Tuskarl: you're just being silly. Rattan Elephant: you're being sillier. Two-tonic Elephant: 🤣 Mangudelephant: 🤦♂ Elephanttiero: 💀
One thing that might be cool is a Heavy Archer Elephant, where you can garrison archers in it similar to a ram for them to fire more arrows and for protection. IIRC longboats were initially intended to do this but they found it easier to just give them a bunch of arrows in the first place. Historically the bigger elephants often had boxes of many archers on top. One thing AoE2 doesn't capture very well historically is the tendency for elephants on the battlefield to run amok when startled. I know this will never be implemented because it will be frustrating to the player, but it would be cool if when an elephant died or was hit by something like gunpowder there would be a chance for them to turn into a Gaia elephant that started attacking anything nearby, and would automatically convert any other nearby elephant to Gaia. Could make for a cool campaign where you're supposed to escort elephants to the battlefield while keeping them safe from gunpowder or some other hazard.
2:46 that thing exists in AoE3 and is an unique unit of the Indians there. Its called Mahout Lancer and has huge attack bonus against light infantry units. Possible realistic stretches of the elephant line: 1) Elephant Gatherer - A villager with an elephant, requires 2 pop space, cost 125 food to make, but collects twice as fast and has 7 attack and a bit of pierce armor. Might need a build limit. Similar to settler wagons from Aoe3 or citizens from AoM. 2) Remaining 2 Indian unique units from AoE3 - The Elephant Cannoneer(BBC on an elephant) and the Elephant Gunner(HC on an elephant). 3) Elephant Caravan : Trade unit with a fair amount of ranged attack and HP that can regenerate, and bring a lot of gold if it completes the trip(gold generation should be equal to trade carts)(idea is to make them unraidable or take good investment to bring them down)(also there must be a mechanism to loot a part of the gold from the elephant if killed) Realistically elephants werent used that much for war, just for logistics.
I love how the suggestions start out somewhat sane, and then quickly dive off the sanity ledge.

I still endorse the trade cart elephant, though maybe it would be confused with the military unit.

Mangonel Elephant has been my Wifis name for over a year now
I had to check the calendar to make sure we were still in September, not April.
Anyway. All elephant units have this in common: SLOWER, BEEFY and COSTLY:
Elephant Scout: improved line of sight.
Two-tonic Elephant: 🤣
Mangudelephant: 🤦♂
Elephanttiero: 💀
I'm not sure this video is entirely serious.

You've made my day, I couldn't stop laughing ever since elephant cavalry archer!
2:00 blast radius 😂
elephant elephant: an elephant riding an elephant
"What day is it today? September 14th? Hmm. looks like we're five and a half months late."
2:46 that thing exists in AoE3 and is an unique unit of the Indians there. Its called Mahout Lancer and has huge attack bonus against light infantry units.
Possible realistic stretches of the elephant line:
1) Elephant Gatherer - A villager with an elephant, requires 2 pop space, cost 125 food to make, but collects twice as fast and has 7 attack and a bit of pierce armor. Might need a build limit. Similar to settler wagons from Aoe3 or citizens from AoM.
2) Remaining 2 Indian unique units from AoE3 - The Elephant Cannoneer(BBC on an elephant) and the Elephant Gunner(HC on an elephant).
3) Elephant Caravan : Trade unit with a fair amount of ranged attack and HP that can regenerate, and bring a lot of gold if it completes the trip(gold generation should be equal to trade carts)(idea is to make them unraidable or take good investment to bring them down)(also there must be a mechanism to loot a part of the gold from the elephant if killed)
Realistically elephants werent used that much for war, just for logistics.
