If you think about it, eggman was the closest thing sonic ever had to a parent in modern cannon, the only other parent age adult was Vanilla and I doubt that she was around nearly as much as eggman

Eggman would definitely be proud. But I agree with Tails, it's probably bad that Sonic grew up around Eggman. WAIT, HOLD UP!! I just had the best image pop up in my head. Imagine Dark Sonic, is just Sonic going through an emo, angsty, teenager phase, and Eggman being the closest thing to a father/parent to Sonic, has to be the one to deal with it.

This reminds me of that one scene in Sonic X, after Sonic becomes Dark Sonic and destroys those test bots, and Eggman comes in being all like 'Im really dissapointed in you Sonic, dont let your temper get the better of you, or it you may stay angry forever like Shadow'. He is kiiiiiinda Sonic's only father esc figure kinda.

In Sonic Underground mans had beef with him before he was born; in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog Sonic is an older child; in the games Sonic's been fighting Eggman since he was classic Sonic (which is literally just child Sonic); and in Sonic X there's evidence to suggest Sonic grew up around Eggman, as Eggman calmed him down from a potentially deadly rampage by saying the very fatherly thing of "I'm disappointed in you"
