I honestly can’t believe how amazing of a villain Tails managed to be. Not only were his motives and reasons for his actions in a rather gray area but he managed to be relatable with his past and how it lead to his present day actions. Tails for the most part manages to be a competent and threatening presence without making any illogical actions that contradict his goals (I mean didn’t he say he wanted to destroy everything?). Crippling a whole city, taking out one of Sonic’s eyes, and escaping jail. Tails was unbelievably competent. It’s funny how intelligent people usually have reasons for doing what they do less than moral actions.

After watching the entirety of Sonic Prime i can safely say that this comic is way more accurate than one may think, at least Nine still has some empathy

A very excellent production. The length alone is impressive. Rather different from a lot of Sonic content we experience -- happier content -- and so this one hit pretty hard. Honestly, this version of Tails does remind me of Syndrome(The Incredibles). A character who wanted to help the main hero and join them as their sidekicks, Only to get rejected by them, And even had been involved with the police. Which the former fans turned into villains bent on revenge and power, And also inventing weapons to take down those who let them down in the past. Only to end up dead in the end. And that is honestly pretty nice to consider.
Both Sonic and Tails' abilities are extreme in amazing ways. But considering the heavy burden and stress put upon them to keep the world safe, they are "One Bad Day" away from becoming something terrifying. Sonic could become Scourge or Fleetway. Tails could become the next Eggman.

Tails could be much worse than Eggman. Just look at this comic! While Robotnik captured some animals, creates oil derricks and builds cute robots like MotoBugs, Miles destroys few cities, murdered a lot of innocent civilians, and his robots look like Predators from the Alien movie. His potential is incredible, and who knows - if Sonic didn't fight with him, he could actually start to build Nuclear Weapons or W.M.D. like Eclypse Cannon.
While the "one bad day" argument holds true for most people, it fails with sonic because in the archie comics, an issue where he's fighting scourge they have this exact debate on why sonic will never have "one bad day" to become a villain
Seeing how in the recent mashed videos secret history tails has unlocked a way to travel across AU's in the sonic universe's. It would be cool for him to recruit WwMH (Where was My Hero) Tails and Requital Tails for his conquest to find the "right" sonic... if the universe is deemed unfit / the right sonic wasn't found... = Requital Tails kills sonic and or tortures him and after that WwMH Tails will destroy that universe as it will be of no use to Secret History Tails after that.

The part where people talked about tears happening didnt happen for me right there. It happened after…like 16:40 when he talked solemnly holding Tails’ body in his arms. It just happened out of nowhere. Unexpected. Its been a long while since something like this caused me to cry, even just the little bit. Thank you to whoever made this.
It's honestly uneasy how the possibility of this being an actual outcome is logical. Tails' sincere and kind personality was always there but it bloomed to new heights from meeting Sonic. He looked past everything that was said about him and his two tails and left the past behind him. Focusing on the present and future. Without Sonic, only Miles Prower remind. Tails never existed. Sonic and Tails' friendship was never a reality. Miles Prower overthrew Eggman and killed him, which lead to Sonic lashing out on him. Leading Tails to perceive how the world views him. A freak that has no meaning. And so faith waylaid them both. Sonic, a scarred personality and a missing eye. And Tails, a broken, mistreated and psychopathic soul. Who in the end had got what he had wanted. One. Last. Fight. No big explosion. No world domination. No global extinction. Just one final confrontation between him and the fastest thing alive. Looks like he was something after all. Who knew something so wrong could be so right.
This is one of the darkest but best Sonic comic dubs I've ever seen. The plot is written so well, and it is depicted so perfectly with a fitting tone. Also I love the ending it's just perfect and made me almost cry.
What. A. Masterpiece. Well done, you guys. This really emphasizes the fact that Sonic and Tails' relationship is one of the most important things in each one's life. They essentially complete each other. This comic and its dub are just so incredible. Highly underrated.
It's unfortunate that Mercy left all this behind purely because her work was so good, I don't know what caused her to leave but I feel like she could have just left without taking her best works down with her, there's ways to leave without being self destructive. I believe she made a follow up comic to this, my God it was incredible, you think this comic is good? The one I saw after this blew it out of the water. (This is long because it's a full re-telling of the follow up comic how I remember it, you can stop reading if you're uninterested by walls of text) I believe it was an alternative version of these events, instead of going crazy and becoming a villain Tails actually exiled himself from the rest of civilisation, he didn't burn down a village and I'm a little unclear on the details because the comic seemingly had a part 1 but I could never find it, I assume his backstory begins similarly where he kills the bullies and whatever. But instead of going down the crazy route he seems shocked by his own actions which is why he lives out on his own, perhaps he's scared of himself, eventually he meets Vanilla the rabbit who comes to visit and keep him company sometimes, they originally met after some kind of accident and Vanilla got stranded there so Tails looked after her and makes an umbrella for her when he sees that it started raining. Her conversations with him are very one-sided because Tails is so traumatised by the past events or something, he talks as little as possible and that's what's important because it makes him very mysterious as a character, you never know what he's doing and with the implications of this comic you might think he'll do something twisted but he never does. As the comic goes on eventually Eggman builds a massive robot and brings an army of other robots with him, many of the robots seen here are not seen in the games and seem far more effective at destruction than the ones we see usually, Vanilla is on the side of the resistance in this comic and I guess she assumes that Tails would happily help them out in this battle. One important thing to note is that despite his tails having been healed at this point this version of Tails never actually learned how to fly with them so it's Vanilla who flies him over to the city. In this city he sees Sonic for the first time going crazy fast and busting up robots except there's no response from Tails whatsoever, he's completely indifferent towards Sonic despite his feats, I'm not sure why he was so emotionless but it's already an interesting direction to go with since he doesn't idolise Sonic and also has practically no chemistry with him in this comic as you'll see later. The smaller robots almost kill Tails before he can do anything but Sonic's widespread destruction of the robots gathers their attention and they leave him alone, I believe Vanilla finds Tails and flies him somewhere high in the sky, my memory of this part in the comic is kinda fuzzy so forgive me for lack of details, Vanilla is shot out of the air or something and Tails actually lands on Eggman's main machine of destruction. Vanilla is saved from death by Sonic, and Tails finds a way to infiltrate Eggman's giant machine, Tails is such an underdog in this comic that he goes completely undetected when he's inside this machine, and after some tinkering he quickly disables the machine which stops Eggman's invasion dead in its tracks, all this with nothing but his intelligence. Tails is stoic as usual but at the end of the comic he and Sonic meet face to face for the first time, Tails tries to say something cool to impersonate Sonic which fails and leaves everyone feeling uncomfortable, Sonic interestingly seems completely unamused by Tails perhaps suspicious of this teenager he's never met before, or maybe cautious because he doesn't know what Tails is truly capable of. I'm pretty sure that's where the comic ends, Sonic also had a moment with Amy or something before the battle but I don't remember it. Sorry for how long this is I don't usually write this long but the comic, the story writing, the pacing, the atmosphere, all of it is perfect, let's just say that Mercy's art style improved by a few lightyears, and she's even better than this comic may lead you to believe.

It is truly unfortunate that this scenario is scarily accurate considering the lore. Shadow was a research experiment that got all those close to him killed, Eggman is a psycho who seemingly had no one growing up, which turned him into the madman he is now, Silver comes from a ruined future and is constantly going back in time to prevent it from being in constant ruin. Knuckles is the last living Echidna and is Left to defend the master emerald, The gem to turn to when The Chaos can't be controlled. All of them connected by our favorite blue hedgehog. And this what if, really points out how something as simply as the hero of South Island getting a best friend, had changed history for the better. It's heartbreaking watching this, knowing how special and supportive these two are in the canon. Only for them to be shown as complete opposites here, and not in a good way. Sonic had brought out the best in Tails, He was what encouraged him to brave Robotnik's army with his hero by his side. He was the one to save Sonic after the defeat of the death egg, He was the one who stayed with his role model for numerous adventures past they're meeting. He fought back against his insecurities, defused a missle, and drove Eggman out of station square, he was the one to avenge Sonic after he thought he died in that capsule, he was there alongside his two best friends, they had to defeat Sonic's Evil robotic doppelganger that had copied the power of The god of destruction and Chaos. He played a crucial role in putting their own planet back together, he was willing to be controlled by Eggman to save Sonic. He had basically given up hope when Sonic was seemingly killed. It's likley Tails felt guilty for not jumping in, and reverted back to A scared Fox yet again, and he's ecstatic at seeing his big brother again. And that event caused him to doubt himself, thinking that he was a burden to Sonic. That couldn't be further from the case. Sonic's love for his little bro is absolute, No amount of self-doubt is ever in the hedgehog nowadays. Hopefully, it'll rub off on his two tailed bestie. Whilst Tails doesn't seem to be the most important character in the series when looking externally, His worth as Sonic's chosen family is why he's so important. This what if really goes to show why such a simple act of kindness can change history. Because here, instead of a Fox that is always looking forward to the positive things he can do for the ones he loves... He became empty, a killer, a complete psychopath. Bullying led to reclusiveness, and reclusiveness became dependency for some kind of attachment. And when that one attachment was taken away... All that was Apathy. wanting some kind of belonging. But Sonic's not the only one who would give the fox that burned down a whole village and killed someone right in front of me a chance. After all that happened. The only thing that was one of Miles' mind, was to watch the world burn. Only death was capable of dowsing this Roaring volcanoe of pure rage towards the world. In the end, the smallest of actions, carry the biggest consequences, and can be the deciding factor between Heroes and Evil.
Given Mercy (original comic artist) is originally German and English isn't her mother tongue, she manages to convey the dialogues rather well throughout most of her works.
Everything about this is amazing. It's really sad at the same time too. I like the concept, but it also would be cool to see how things would go down if Tails didn't die
The question is though, what would’ve happened to the timer if he had lived? The timer was programmed to do one thing, count down to how much time he had left before he died. Maybe more time would have been added to the timer as a result of changing history? Who knows. Either way, I agree with what you had to say, Tails deserves a happy ending too.
@@plasmatails It is unlikely he linked his death to the clock. He held back at the last second, but he also anticipated death I'm guessing he thought that if Tails went down he'd take his army with him in a way. But like what was said who knows? It's like throwing darts at a map.
He predicted this outcome, and maybe even if he did survive, what then? Prison? No one would have pardoned him from all the things that he did. Bro I just remembered this! I think this may have inspired tails nine. The similarities are incredible. But I'm not sure, and I wouldn't be surprised if they actually took inspiration from this since they've done stuff like that before.
They should make a prequel set during the war. Tails has a breakdown after loosing his friend, Sonic. He couldn’t cope with the fact that he left him to die. While Everyone tries to comfort the sobbing child, Silver began to doubt about the war. A reason why he is now a “Realist.”

This type of Tail has so much potential in this comic it makes him broken. He has the mind of a genius, and has tech to go with it aswell. On all terms might be the best story that involves dark fantasy with Tails. Overall love this Dub and all :)

I'm a little sad that the version I had remade was lost but at the same time happy that you had at least the original, I followed the comic for a while but when I found out that the author deleted everything from himself I couldn't even find the original version , I am glad and thank you very much that you have brought this
I haven't seen anyone say this and I'm surprised. Its ironic. It started with Tails killing Eggman and Sonic being outraged by it. He says that "You will not become a hero if you kill someone". Yet the story ends with the self proclaimed hero killing Tails. Almost... following in his footsteps.
I know that for some it may sound a bit psychopathic, but the fact that Tails finished off Eggman was the best thing that could have happened to this story, because the eternal battle against the greatest enemy in the world finally ended and the infinite cycle of wars and tragedies finally ended. It's over, now the world can finally be at peace without a crazy doctor wanting to come and enslave them. (And yes, I know there will be people who will say that this goes against Sonic's principles, because knowing Sonic, he will always be willing to give second chances regardless of the consequences or crimes that the person has committed, and he will not allow Nobody goes against their principles, even if that means having to ignore the warnings of their friends, refusing to accept that they were wrong even after seeing it with their own eyes, and using the traumas of others to get what they want. But will they ever? Have you ever wondered what a Sonic story would be like in which one of his friends went against Sonic's principles?)
You know, this reminds me a little of Android 16's last words, which are that there will always be people who will never understand words, and you will have to go against your ideals for the greater good.

It was years ago when I was a child when I first saw this comic and I always wanted to dub it and I was so happy when I finally got a team for it. I have watched the dub you were included in and it helped me in production of this one, great job in the one you were in!

Excellent voice acting, no extra sounds, no problems with the voice acting. The voice acting is top notch. And the ending when Sonic says the last words before the end, reminds me of war veterans who talk about tragedy and history.
Miles and Sonic probably looked desentizied to the horrors they have seen. Especially Tails, as he seemed detached. Numb to the world he ruined. If I knew one thing about war. Is that casulties are uninevitable, and being in the cross-fire will have you see things, that you wouldn't want to see.
Revisiting this au now in 2024,Miles is weirdly similar to Nine from sonic prime,but Nine's story was toned down of course,Miles is a tails who never met sonic,so he turned into a Narcisist that wants to "fix" everything,Awfully similar to Nine's backstory,Miles even has the mechanical limbs thing,but here they're more like spider legs,Nine is just a family friendly version of this AU's Tails

This shows us what would have happened if Tails and Sonic, didn't meet. It seems like something like this could happen in Prime (minus Tails and Sonic fighting). Tails is even wearing spider-arm mech in prime, just another reason I'm hyped for the show.
I dont know why, but i keep on rewatching this animation whenever i see it, although it was 2 years ago, it's still one of my favourite What-ifs, tell you what, it's a bit interesting that now there is a Tails version "Nine", that really does have similiar story, perhaps was inspired by this perhaps or was this a prediction? Either way, the people who drew this, made the story and voice acted this, did really great job.

Both Sonic and Tails' abilities are extreme in amazing ways. But considering the heavy burden and stress put upon them to keep the world safe, they are "One Bad Day" away from becoming something terrifying. Sonic could become Scourge or Fleetway. Tails could become the next Eggman.

Tails could be much worse than Eggman. Just look at this comic! While Robotnik captured some animals, creates oil derricks and builds cute robots like MotoBugs, Miles destroys few cities, murdered a lot of innocent civilians, and his robots look like Predators from the Alien movie. His potential is incredible, and who knows - if Sonic didn't fight with him, he could actually start to build Nuclear Weapons or W.M.D. like Eclypse Cannon.
While the "one bad day" argument holds true for most people, it fails with sonic because in the archie comics, an issue where he's fighting scourge they have this exact debate on why sonic will never have "one bad day" to become a villain

The part where people talked about tears happening didnt happen for me right there. It happened after…like 16:40 when he talked solemnly holding Tails’ body in his arms. It just happened out of nowhere. Unexpected. Its been a long while since something like this caused me to cry, even just the little bit. Thank you to whoever made this.
It's honestly uneasy how the possibility of this being an actual outcome is logical. Tails' sincere and kind personality was always there but it bloomed to new heights from meeting Sonic. He looked past everything that was said about him and his two tails and left the past behind him. Focusing on the present and future. Without Sonic, only Miles Prower remind. Tails never existed. Sonic and Tails' friendship was never a reality. Miles Prower overthrew Eggman and killed him, which lead to Sonic lashing out on him. Leading Tails to perceive how the world views him. A freak that has no meaning.
And so faith waylaid them both. Sonic, a scarred personality and a missing eye. And Tails, a broken, mistreated and psychopathic soul. Who in the end had got what he had wanted. One. Last. Fight.
No big explosion. No world domination. No global extinction. Just one final confrontation between him and the fastest thing alive. Looks like he was something after all.
Who knew something so wrong could be so right.
This is one of the darkest but best Sonic comic dubs I've ever seen. The plot is written so well, and it is depicted so perfectly with a fitting tone. Also I love the ending it's just perfect and made me almost cry.

It's unfortunate that Mercy left all this behind purely because her work was so good, I don't know what caused her to leave but I feel like she could have just left without taking her best works down with her, there's ways to leave without being self destructive.
I believe she made a follow up comic to this, my God it was incredible, you think this comic is good? The one I saw after this blew it out of the water.
(This is long because it's a full re-telling of the follow up comic how I remember it, you can stop reading if you're uninterested by walls of text)
I believe it was an alternative version of these events, instead of going crazy and becoming a villain Tails actually exiled himself from the rest of civilisation, he didn't burn down a village and I'm a little unclear on the details because the comic seemingly had a part 1 but I could never find it, I assume his backstory begins similarly where he kills the bullies and whatever.
But instead of going down the crazy route he seems shocked by his own actions which is why he lives out on his own, perhaps he's scared of himself, eventually he meets Vanilla the rabbit who comes to visit and keep him company sometimes, they originally met after some kind of accident and Vanilla got stranded there so Tails looked after her and makes an umbrella for her when he sees that it started raining.
Her conversations with him are very one-sided because Tails is so traumatised by the past events or something, he talks as little as possible and that's what's important because it makes him very mysterious as a character, you never know what he's doing and with the implications of this comic you might think he'll do something twisted but he never does.
As the comic goes on eventually Eggman builds a massive robot and brings an army of other robots with him, many of the robots seen here are not seen in the games and seem far more effective at destruction than the ones we see usually, Vanilla is on the side of the resistance in this comic and I guess she assumes that Tails would happily help them out in this battle.
One important thing to note is that despite his tails having been healed at this point this version of Tails never actually learned how to fly with them so it's Vanilla who flies him over to the city.
In this city he sees Sonic for the first time going crazy fast and busting up robots except there's no response from Tails whatsoever, he's completely indifferent towards Sonic despite his feats, I'm not sure why he was so emotionless but it's already an interesting direction to go with since he doesn't idolise Sonic and also has practically no chemistry with him in this comic as you'll see later.
The smaller robots almost kill Tails before he can do anything but Sonic's widespread destruction of the robots gathers their attention and they leave him alone, I believe Vanilla finds Tails and flies him somewhere high in the sky, my memory of this part in the comic is kinda fuzzy so forgive me for lack of details, Vanilla is shot out of the air or something and Tails actually lands on Eggman's main machine of destruction.
Vanilla is saved from death by Sonic, and Tails finds a way to infiltrate Eggman's giant machine, Tails is such an underdog in this comic that he goes completely undetected when he's inside this machine, and after some tinkering he quickly disables the machine which stops Eggman's invasion dead in its tracks, all this with nothing but his intelligence.
Tails is stoic as usual but at the end of the comic he and Sonic meet face to face for the first time, Tails tries to say something cool to impersonate Sonic which fails and leaves everyone feeling uncomfortable, Sonic interestingly seems completely unamused by Tails perhaps suspicious of this teenager he's never met before, or maybe cautious because he doesn't know what Tails is truly capable of.
I'm pretty sure that's where the comic ends, Sonic also had a moment with Amy or something before the battle but I don't remember it.
Sorry for how long this is I don't usually write this long but the comic, the story writing, the pacing, the atmosphere, all of it is perfect, let's just say that Mercy's art style improved by a few lightyears, and she's even better than this comic may lead you to believe.
Sounds like an awesome follow up comic, I hope its preserved somewhere on the internet, cause that sounds like a very interesting story.

It is truly unfortunate that this scenario is scarily accurate considering the lore. Shadow was a research experiment that got all those close to him killed, Eggman is a psycho who seemingly had no one growing up, which turned him into the madman he is now, Silver comes from a ruined future and is constantly going back in time to prevent it from being in constant ruin. Knuckles is the last living Echidna and is Left to defend the master emerald, The gem to turn to when The Chaos can't be controlled. All of them connected by our favorite blue hedgehog. And this what if, really points out how something as simply as the hero of South Island getting a best friend, had changed history for the better. It's heartbreaking watching this, knowing how special and supportive these two are in the canon. Only for them to be shown as complete opposites here, and not in a good way. Sonic had brought out the best in Tails, He was what encouraged him to brave Robotnik's army with his hero by his side. He was the one to save Sonic after the defeat of the death egg, He was the one who stayed with his role model for numerous adventures past they're meeting. He fought back against his insecurities, defused a missle, and drove Eggman out of station square, he was the one to avenge Sonic after he thought he died in that capsule, he was there alongside his two best friends, they had to defeat Sonic's Evil robotic doppelganger that had copied the power of The god of destruction and Chaos. He played a crucial role in putting their own planet back together, he was willing to be controlled by Eggman to save Sonic. He had basically given up hope when Sonic was seemingly killed. It's likley Tails felt guilty for not jumping in, and reverted back to A scared Fox yet again, and he's ecstatic at seeing his big brother again. And that event caused him to doubt himself, thinking that he was a burden to Sonic. That couldn't be further from the case. Sonic's love for his little bro is absolute, No amount of self-doubt is ever in the hedgehog nowadays. Hopefully, it'll rub off on his two tailed bestie. Whilst Tails doesn't seem to be the most important character in the series when looking externally, His worth as Sonic's chosen family is why he's so important. This what if really goes to show why such a simple act of kindness can change history.
Because here, instead of a Fox that is always looking forward to the positive things he can do for the ones he loves... He became empty, a killer, a complete psychopath. Bullying led to reclusiveness, and reclusiveness became dependency for some kind of attachment. And when that one attachment was taken away... All that was Apathy. wanting some kind of belonging. But Sonic's not the only one who would give the fox that burned down a whole village and killed someone right in front of me a chance. After all that happened. The only thing that was one of Miles' mind, was to watch the world burn. Only death was capable of dowsing this Roaring volcanoe of pure rage towards the world. In the end, the smallest of actions, carry the biggest consequences, and can be the deciding factor between Heroes and Evil.

Given Mercy (original comic artist) is originally German and English isn't her mother tongue, she manages to convey the dialogues rather well throughout most of her works.
She does indeed, however I did have to alter a few parts of the script so the English made sense
Everything about this is amazing. It's really sad at the same time too. I like the concept, but it also would be cool to see how things would go down if Tails didn't die
The question is though, what would’ve happened to the timer if he had lived? The timer was programmed to do one thing, count down to how much time he had left before he died. Maybe more time would have been added to the timer as a result of changing history? Who knows. Either way, I agree with what you had to say, Tails deserves a happy ending too.

@@plasmatails It is unlikely he linked his death to the clock. He held back at the last second, but he also anticipated death I'm guessing he thought that if Tails went down he'd take his army with him in a way. But like what was said who knows? It's like throwing darts at a map.
He predicted this outcome, and maybe even if he did survive, what then? Prison? No one would have pardoned him from all the things that he did. They should make a prequel set during the war. Tails has a breakdown after loosing his friend, Sonic. He couldn’t cope with the fact that he left him to die. While Everyone tries to comfort the sobbing child, Silver began to doubt about the war. A reason why he is now a “Realist.”

I haven't seen anyone say this and I'm surprised. Its ironic. It started with Tails killing Eggman and Sonic being outraged by it. He says that "You will not become a hero if you kill someone". Yet the story ends with the self proclaimed hero killing Tails. Almost... following in his footsteps.
I know that for some it may sound a bit psychopathic, but the fact that Tails finished off Eggman was the best thing that could have happened to this story, because the eternal battle against the greatest enemy in the world finally ended and the infinite cycle of wars and tragedies finally ended. It's over, now the world can finally be at peace without a crazy doctor wanting to come and enslave them.
(And yes, I know there will be people who will say that this goes against Sonic's principles, because knowing Sonic, he will always be willing to give second chances regardless of the consequences or crimes that the person has committed, and he will not allow Nobody goes against their principles, even if that means having to ignore the warnings of their friends, refusing to accept that they were wrong even after seeing it with their own eyes, and using the traumas of others to get what they want. But will they ever? Have you ever wondered what a Sonic story would be like in which one of his friends went against Sonic's principles?)
You know, this reminds me a little of Android 16's last words, which are that there will always be people who will never understand words, and you will have to go against your ideals for the greater good.

Excellent voice acting, no extra sounds, no problems with the voice acting. The voice acting is top notch. And the ending when Sonic says the last words before the end, reminds me of war veterans who talk about tragedy and history.
Miles and Sonic probably looked desentizied to the horrors they have seen.
Especially Tails, as he seemed detached. Numb to the world he ruined.

This shows us what would have happened if Tails and Sonic, didn't meet. It seems like something like this could happen in Prime (minus Tails and Sonic fighting). Tails is even wearing spider-arm mech in prime, just another reason I'm hyped for the show.
I dont know why, but i keep on rewatching this animation whenever i see it, although it was 2 years ago, it's still one of my favourite What-ifs, tell you what, it's a bit interesting that now there is a Tails version "Nine", that really does have similiar story, perhaps was inspired by this perhaps or was this a prediction?
Either way, the people who drew this, made the story and voice acted this, did really great job.
