Brad & Deb
I love how fast I can sharpen the blades, grass has never looked better!
I love the idea. I look forward to seeing how they hold up.
That's the key, because who wants to sharpen 12 tips instead of 6??
I sent you pictures of MY one season results of cutting in North Central Florida ( Suwannee county )
You said you cut 6 acres in Florida which has a long cutting season.....nothing last forever.
I have a swinging cutter system on a Klippo walk behind mower, and it gives a better cut, using lease engine power, the a conventional blade.Very sharp edges.
That was awesome test though I like that pretty cool. They look better.
They cut good so far!
Disc bind hay mower blades, cool idea.
It is very similar in design to our drum mower! th-cam.com/video/7nGnphZ7oTU/w-d-xo.html
AWSOME blades!!
We like them!
The result is remarkable, frankly. It's as if it mulches the mulch. I've seen these cut grass down to 1.5" and leave virtually no stragglers. I'm going to buy a set and see up close. Appreciate the real world test!
So far we love them.....We'll continue our long term testing in 2024.
Folks, this test is with a PTO shaft driven mower, when you use these things with a electric PTO clutch belt driven you WILL notice the load when engaged & sound
ive got the best mower idea for you! if you had fence and and water get a couple cows! saves on disel and sharpening blades! and you got beef!
I've lost that argument! But we could make more hay and sell it....that's the eventual plan.
@@PineyGroveHomestead that thick grass is sure a blade killer thats for sure!
Sounds like a big pissed off killer bee hive. Cool.
Love them so far.
Hey brother, just curious… Have you ever had any trouble with your retractable seatbelt on your Kabota… Mine went south, and went south bad… (locked down), I took it apart to look at it, and that coil
went crazy…
I removed mine. I never used them and they get in the way of the controls.
Any grass left uncut where the blades meet? My megmo doesn’t have the lift to get a clean cut first pass. They’re basically hay cutters
Not where the blades meet but the inside edge will roll over grass a little. It's been pretty consistent with one pass cutting if you overlap a foot or so.
Easier to balance too. You could do it with a kitchen scale.
You WON'T have a chance to balance them, they won't last that long, been there done that
Interesting concept in a couple of ways. Spindle wear, snd blade durability are an initial concern.
BUT cost prohibitive, purchased these and when comparing the TIP PRICE vs: blade price even years ago I went back to the standard blades
What is the weight difference between this and regular steel blades
I bought one of these setups and it was a NOTICEABLE noise & load difference in SOUND on my Snapper B&S twin 48" 3 spindle deck
@@REVNUMANEWBERN so... are you going to answer the question?
Any updates on the durability? I didn't see any videos on them with a quick scroll through previous videos.
Still sharp and like new after several acres. We are getting a set for our Zero Turn that we use more.
@@PineyGroveHomestead Awesome! I'm going to order some for my finish mower as well!
Looking forward to receiving my Cutlass Blades. I ordered them 2 months ago and they have not arrived yet. Are there problems at the shop?
I had to wait a bit for mine since they are custom made. Email Bryan and ask for an update: Bryan@cutlassblades.com
You should ask for a DISCOUNT for a EXTRA set of blades since they haven't shipped, you WILL need them
First off great review! No extra fluff to make the video longer. Good video work and showed the product at multiple angles and you even threw in the hot wife for a few extra likes. :) I understand your down in FL but any comments on how these do in thick wet grass? Up here in PA in the spring we get thick wet grass and I am curious as to how these mow at 4". Thanks again for the great review.
We try to cut when it's dry. I just used them for this first time since last fall and forgot how well they cut!
Does this mean you have left them on your mower or did you go back to regular blades?
@@grobinson8 I'm still running the Cutlass....way better than regular blades. I'm interested in durability now.
@@PineyGroveHomestead My Nawth Central Florida sandy conditions ate these COSTLY TIPS alive
Now u need a set for debs lawn mower
We're going to see how these hold up first, but that's the goal!
So any follow-up on blade performance/longevity?
It's still sharp and cutting great. Getting another set for our Zero Turn.
@@PineyGroveHomestead great, thanks for the followup. I am looking at these for a 60” zero-turn and I like this blade detach concept the best.
Any updates on the Cutlass Blades?
we are still using them....still sharp and cutting great!
I can send you PICTURE of my Cutlass blades after just ONE cutting season here in Suwannee County Florida
Ours still cutting great after one mowing season.
Is there a reason you cut it so short? I have mole hills all over my pasture, could never cut this short.
It could be raised to cut higher. This is Florida, so grass grows quick!
@@PineyGroveHomestead I'm in Suwannee County, bought these about 5 years ago, went back to the standard blades, the tips were cost prohibitive, I was even willing to buy a larger quantity to get a better price but they wouldn't budge at that time.
What you could do is keep the thatch, mow and bail it. That would help keep agriculture exemption on the property.
A small bailer like this would fit the bill:
th-cam.com/users/shortsx_SjXaN8zZM
We've done that! th-cam.com/users/shorts8zHB99m8LHo
$8.00 a tip = 4 tips PER spindle = $32.00 compare with ONE blade cost = $96.00 to replace ALL tips for a 3 spindle mower. Think long & hard BEFORE you lay out those $$$ , I bought one of these setups & when it came to tip replacements I went BACK to the blades and this was about 5 years ago.
You are discounting all the other benefits of these blades. They swing away if they hit a solid object. More tips = more even cutting and better mulching...so if you went X-blade your replacement cost of traditional blade doubles. These tips are hardened steel so they last longer than a traditional blade Hardened traditional blades are VERY expensive. We've mowed acreage with these blades and they are still sharp. With traditional blades after about 1 acre they are rounded off and damaging your grass by ripping instead of cutting.
@@PineyGroveHomestead I'm speaking also of experience, I bought these about 4 or 5 years ago, they WON'T last longer, I WORKED at a name brand Mower MFG plant for 30+ years IN Quality Control, I tested EVERY shipment of blades we got from our vendor, Fisher Barton, ALL those blades were hardened steel. Granted some off the shelf blade companies may NOT be hardened BUT 5 years ago when I was forced into retirement name brand MFG blade vendors were.
@@PineyGroveHomestead Neighbor, I'd like to send you a PICTURE of my Cutlass blades after just ONE cutting season here in Suwannee County Florida
UNFORTUNATELY the replacement tips make such COST PROHIBITIVE ! Been there done that, took mine off after figuring out the tip replacement costs
It's only Cost Prohibitive if you only look at the cost of the blades. These blades offer so much more that traditional blades cannot do.
Much better cut. Now tell Deb to get to work. 🚜🚜
I need to change the blades on her zero turn...she's worn them out!
try gator blades they work better
You've compared Cutlass to Gator blades?
I didn't see clearly what you had holding up the deck you were working on, but please be overly cautious with blocking holding the deck and blocking of tractor wheels. Many folks including a personal friend have died when a deck shifted and pinched the man underneath. Please be careful
Thanks. We had a 6x6 on both sides. Deb ain't letting me under the implements without something!
You will have the same problem that MegMo had.......$$$$ At $9/blade it will cost $36/spindle and with 3 spindles that's $100+ for a complete set of blades. Otherwise, these, like the MegMo blades work very well.
True. If they last a season of cutting though, that's worth it to not sharpen!
@@PineyGroveHomestead Don't get me wrong.....I loved the Meg-Mo system. It just got to expensive for me when comparing results I could tolerate. I ran Meg-Mo on my Ferris and JD from 2012 to 2016, then economics took over. The harden steel knives held an edge longer than a regular blade. Had I had the money, I would still be running the Meg-Mo system. The system you demonstrated should provide the same result. The Meg-Mo ran quieter and could tolerate wet grass better.....I just couldn't afford them.
YES Definitely, I bit the bullet & tried these UNTIL I compared the tip replacement costs, it's cheaper to put a new set of standard blades on & just run them till they wear out with NO sharpening, you would THINK these yahoo's would give you a HUGE discount since they have you locked in to using ONLY their blades, but NO !
It will depend on what you’re cutting. I did this conversion with a zero turn on sports turf that’s mowed twice a week so really only cutting the tips off. Those blades lasted 5 months. Longer stuff you would be better with the bar blade.
WHY ARE YOU CUTTING THE GRASS SO LOW?? THAT'S NOT THATCH, ITS GRASS BEING CUT TOO SHORT
It's probably 4" or so.
I am pleased with this test.
I am a bit unhappy with the fact there is nothing from 1-2 months later after more use.
The blade in this video looks nothing like what is on the Cutlass website.
They are transitioning to this version.
why do commercial mowers always leave such an uneven and thatchy cut... i sure wouldnt want my yard to look like that.. is that the aim here? is it a feeding pasture? where you wasnt thatch for livestock?
Tall grass. Your lawn is probably cut way more often!
it's pronounced buh-hay-uh grass, not buh-hi-uh
We can never remember.
Ba-hee-ah (Bahia) is my grass.
Not sure if I can trust this review... you use DeWalt tools, lol...
Well Milwaukee set my house on fire, so.....
Stop wasting money mowing ! Plant something to feed the homeless !!!
That was stupid.
I have to assume this is a bot.
There’s a reason why homeless are homeless! They don’t want to work! Maybe they need to cut my grass!
Yeah 1 of them blades flies off from hitting a rock and takes kids ' off !!! Then the kid will own the land you're mowing !!!
A hay drum mower has the same type of swinging blades
There is always at least one ambulance chaser in every comments section.
Main type of blade Australia has been using for decades. So not a valid argument.
Does anyone remember when pdiddy had two homes raided?
what's a pdiddy?
