Calling it now. People will pan this game on release, say how bad and different it is. Say how firaxis fumbled and how it's over for civ then 6 months later say how its the best civ and they're firing on all cylinders and how it was worth the wait. Standard civ player base response.
No, people will say it is good once all the DLC is release, just like Civ6, Civ5, etc. The problem is Cuntraxis are intentionally releasing and incomplete game to make more money off selling DLCs for content that is clearly ready for release at launch.
My people’s response prediction (this mightn’t keep well!) is: Game will generally receive positive reviews. Maybe 75% - 85% positive in the early days. This will lift slightly with time. Game will improve over five years of updates and DLC. Ultimate edition will be played by many people for years to come. This is basically the Civ formula for the last twenty years (not you - BE).
This allready looks and feel best civ ever,,, and I have really played all civ games… I am that old. Is this perfect game… I don`t think so, but all in all this seem good upgrade from previous Civilization. But ofcourse I have to play it for a while to be sure.
17:20 No, you are NOT a moron. No need for self-deprecation, even disguised as comedy. You do good work and have worked to have such a big audience. Embrace your achievements.
I played Humankind again yesterday to prepare myself for Civ7. It has a really strong AI and it is fun. I forgot how nasty the other leaders are when you interact. It could benefit from more elaborate narrative events and I STILL don't understand the diplomacy mechanic. Even when you have an alliance there doesn't seem to be a clear way to launch a joint war against a common adversary...
You did it Jumbo! 🎉🎉🎉 congrats on 100k!!! To be honest at first it was strange to listem to your specific manner. But clip after clip i used to this joyful calming tone. I think its not important if someone likes or dislikes your style, thw most important that it is unique. Thanks for the vid, and congrats on 100k! I reckon it will be positively welcomed for the most part, though I'll be waiting for the hot-seat update (hopefully to come) and probably a bunch of the additional content in the process hopefully on sale too who knows. I still want to see more on the different map types, game types, play styles on different maps etc. So far it feels like I've only seen one.
Yeah it's silly they're releasing a paid DLC less than 30 days from launch. I bought base game civ6 & then waited to get all it's dlc bundled together at a discount
For the UI and the difficulty seeing the units, i think a large part is due to the unit tags (the symbol above them that shows what unit they are) looking much smaller than they are in 5 and 6. So they get lost in all the clutter. One positive I cant emphasize enough is how fantastic the water looks lol
Congratulations on the 100k! Your videos are amazing and I appreciate how much effort you put into them! You deserve all the success and support and I am excited to see what you put out next!
I understand why they did leader vs civ (since they are trying to perfect the Millenia/Humankind route), but thematically, seems like the leader changing each age would have made more sense.
I believe the reasons the leaders stay is so that we as players can keep track of who is who, the same leaders mean we get a familiar face throughout the ages
@@BigMackWitSauce the real reason, as we all know, is that that functionality will come with a thematic expansion for the low, low price of $29.99. Lol

What I dislike the most by this game is the over packed, too densely with graphic objects filled map. It looks like the showcase of a game store. I miss the clean, not strongly cultivated spaces between the towns (like in Civ 5). A real strategy game (like Civ 5) have mountains, big forests, big deserts, lakes between the settlements. In Civ 7 only 1-3 fields are between 2 settlements. The whole world looks like a mega city ! Not enough nature !
Agreed. I enjoyed civ 6 and will enjoy 7 I'm sure. But if you're going to unpack the cities to take up so much area, why not make the world bigger so that it feels more natural? Even a small increase in world size would work
Make CIV VII different from previous CIV's : "Why would they mess with successful mechanics? This isn't real CIV! I'm going back to CIV V!" Make CIV VII similar to previous CIV's: "I'm not paying that much for cosmetic upgrades!"
I vividly remember how Civ 5 was crucified upon release as the worst civ game ever and only garnered its high praise after the release of the first expansion Gods & Kings, which not only added more tactical layers but also overhauled the combat system. This seems to be exactly the same scenario for Civ 7 even down to the greedy practice of purposely withholding civs and mechanics as future DLCs.

No no of course not, that's definitely not why there's an entire Civ and leader locked behind a preorder bonus nor why England is a day 1 DLC, come on man when have modern games ever released in an unfinished state to be sold piecemeal later

Thanks for the honesty. Solid review. I preordered the deluxe addition. Ultimately it's a Civ game... and it still reminds me of a Civ game and that's a good thing. Can't wait to dig into it! Hope you do some livestreams of your playthroughs once you can.
Congrats on the 100k! I’m back again lol! Jealous of ya in a good way, but it’s making me really tempted to get back into content creation with Civ7 XD
Besides month one and 2 DLCs sounding like base game content that was cut out and locked behind a paywall for greedy reasons, im excited for this game. All your and other creator videos have sufficiently made the hype train run on overdrive for sure!
The sad reality is - no matter some good ideas and promise, Civ 7 is predicated on releasing an incomplete game: even from Civ 1 launching into Space felt like the culmination of every games progression, its just sad that with the new ages system, its clearly designed to drip-feed the actual full game in DLC and only release with 3 ages
100%, the fact they already have a DLC planned for 1-month after launch shows how low Firaxis is reaching to squeeze as much money out of the fans as possible.
I mean, this might surprise anyone who has played only the last Civ game and bought it as full bundle during a sale. Anyone, who has played at least three last Civ games, had to know how it will be. Civ game is always complete only with two expansions and couple nation/leader DLCs. You should not buy Civ 7 at release if you want a complete Civ experience. Wait for sale and more importantly for the first expansion at least.
For a base Civ game I think it actually feels pretty complete. Disasters, religion, and other game mechanics are already there this time around. Game features aren’t in these first DLCS - but I’d expect there to be many DLCs to come, in keeping with history. GB as DLC is lame. So maybe it’s not quite true for civs and leaders. Though to its credit it is launching with more than ever before (made easier by the three ages system!).
To be more specific: If it was a battle pass, it would go away after the month if you did not purchase it, with no way to obtain the specific premium stuff anymore. But you are correct in that it is monthly paid content. There is a difference between the two, except on our wallets.
First of all, congrats on the 100k!! I do think the game will live for years just like Civ 6 did... a lot of the new changes will take a few days to adapt to.. like the UI and Age transitions. Speaking of UI, it doesnt look as good as it should be but come on... it isnt a big deal... if not solved be the devs themselfs, modders will do the job. The game will be good.. it will be addicting and its replayability is unquestionable. I usually dont pre order games.. but when it comes to Civ and Souls like games, its almost a 100% guaranteed the game will be good or somewhat decent. Also, from what i have seen thus far.. performance is stable... which is a bless these days. Lets bomb our friends who focus in culture and have fun as always. Have a good day.
Wait, this first DLC coming out a month after release, is that paid or free? If its paid that's absolutely effed up. Just delay the game a month, don't fucking charge us for stuff you know needs to be in there but you couldn't get finished in time. And what's the best that when it comes out there'll be a package deal that's cheaper than the base game plus DLC cost, thereby punishing people who bought the game on release, ya know, your most loyal fans.
Yeah I feel like when they had the community people play the game for the first time last year. They took all the recommended changes (hot seat multiplayer for example was hugely requested) & they put all of that into the first paid DLC instead of fixing the game
@@michaelmayhem350 that is not how PM or agile works. That is just not enough time to design, develop, qa, and release a version. You people especulate a lot, a lot.
Its the exact same thing they did with civ 5 and 6. The major content upgrades will be free, but just like 5 and 6 there will be additional civ packs 1 and 2 months after launch.
@acoustic5738 I assure you if it's releasing a month after launch it was ready to go on launch day. Live serve games develop content well in advance. Speaking from experience here, for fortnite when you're playing season 1, season 2 is done (aside from fixes for unexpected bugs that crop up in season 1) & we're actively developing season 3. That month later dlc patch is ready and was intentionally planned to be released like that and milk another payment from players.
Future sales. The district puzzle game and forced city spam is what kinda wrecked Civ 6 for me, so good to know ahead of time they haven't really fixed that just tweaked it. I'm also not paying full premium price for 3/4 of a base game. AND I don't want to drop premium prices for the privilege of buying half the game price again every month for however many years. Humankind and Civ 5 still scratch my itch. Congrats on 100K!
Was thinking about preordering this one, but it’s feature incomplete! I had a lot of fun playing hotseat with the girlfriend, but that’s not available on launch!? Instead it’s part of a “free expansion”. That and Britain being missing suggests to me that the game was not ready for this date, but instead being shipped out early with the things that make it complete being marketed as “continued support” rather than “finishing the game”
Congrats on the 100K! Based on your experience, do you have any recommendations for one's first game as a leader and first Civ? Thanks for this video and the others you have made. There are lots around, and yours are at the top.
The player: I will make the best possible strategy! I will choose the place of battle! Like Sun Tzu, I will be patient! I will make the best possible upgrades! I will create, upgrade, and put into battle the greatest legion ever created! The developers: Uh uh, yes, yes...of course...of course...ummm yes...that's right...yes...you choose how, where and how much to develop in the game... uh yes The game: Turn 150. The era is over! Your time is up!
Well, at least civ 6 wasn't as bugged at the start and didn't allow 1 citizen growth each turn no matter how much food you make... I really hope they will patch it very soon.
Yeah it's probably fixed. Every game released since the internet age has gotten a day one patch and at worse this game is getting a dlc a month later so if it's not fixed at launch I expect it to be fixed by March
I loved the review and I can't wait to get my hand on the game, the only point where I struggle to appreciate it is the general clutter of the map, I don't know if it's because I'm colourblind, but it's really hard even from videos to see what's going on, everything kinda blends together, which is visually good, but functionally bad
They should’ve done changing leaders instead of Civs, they still could’ve made it not make sense (I.e having Ben Franklin lead Rome) but then it would make sense that the colour doesn’t change and make it more historically accurate. You could tell someone you’re playing America instead of playing Ben Franklin
It is an Ed Beach's Civilization, not a Sid Meier one. And actually, since Civ4, every Civilization games do not have the Sid Meier pedigree that much.
Very few things are or were a single man's vision. To speak of the Frech Revolution as the plight of Nepoleon and Nepoleon alone is to tell a fragment of a story
Yeah i think this game looks really fun, with some flaws. i think as they're about to kinda work though feedback and in game metrics we'll see significant adjustments to some systems. I bet some systems were left intentionally a bit underdeveloped until things go live so they don't roll out something bad instead. I'm excited though, I've never done a day one Civ game, I've always waited. So excited to get in on the ground floor for once!
To me, the game feels like (because it largely is) developed by the same crew who did Civ 6 - that may be fine, depends on your opinion, but it doesn't really feel as fresh a take on the series in terms of tone, art-direction, UI and general ethos as some other entries did - I for one hope that a new team will take on 8 and deliver a change of direction from this, more 'accessible' and less gritty vibe that has been here since 6
I have never finished a civ game or for that matter Humankind or any other 4x civ game because the first part is so exiting and the mid/end-game kills the interest, so if the new age system makes the game feel like beginning two or more times, I just welcome it.
Wait a minute... did I see Americas at least one ' the prospector' special unit is literally a builder Maybe there's more bad choices for civ combinations with civ switching but the reality is there will be 4 effective combinations at best one for each victory if they are unique and zero combinations if they are generic
I definitely wish they would have launched with more historical paths for some of the civs. Kinda weird to have to go from China to Japan or Hawaii to Japan. Quite a few of the Modern civs seemed to suffer from that issue when I last checked. You also have the weird situation where a civs only corresponding leader is from a completely different era (Himiko). I’m sure this stuff will get ironed out, but I hope they focus on filling out the paths we currently have rather than continuing to add extremely fragmented civs that won’t really have a natural flow between ages. Can you tell I main japan? lol Anyways, I think they did a good job picking the Normans and Hawaii as exploration age civs, so hopefully we get some other cool civs to fill the gaps.
I'm fine with the option to switch civs between ages but I wish at least for the ones where possible, you could go through the whole game as the actual historical successors. I.e. Aksum > Zagwe > Ethiopia (though irl it was called Ethiopia even during the Aksumite Era and the Zagwe dynasty didn't make it not be Ethiopia). Though Rome > England > USA at least would make sense.
When Civ 6 came out, everyone was extremely upset and disappointed with the artstyle, which resembled Fortnite and Mobile Games, instead of being more realistic like how Civ 5 beautifully was. Those folks were stigmatized and ridiculed, yet Civ 6 literally became a mobile game lol you can buy it on your phone now. Civ 7 doubled down on this Fortnitification/Mobile Game vision for Civilization. It looks worse lol This is what happens when you replace your development team with Mobile Developers, and bow down to corporate greed that makes no sense unless you're just trying to profit. Civ 7 is yet another manifestation of the industry choosing profit over innovation. Don't even get me started on the Live Service and Microstransactions 😬 -real review, likely gonna be censored by Google for no reason lol
The only thing CEO's are about is sales. They went a different way with Civ6 and while you obviously hated it. It sold and it sold a lot. If it hadn't have sold they wouldn't have kept and expanded on the same formula for Civ7. If you bought civ6 you're part of "the problem" so pipe down. This time around don't buy Civ7 not even 5 years from now when all the dlc is out and it's on sale.
@@JohnSmith-rr3jt is it though? Celts turned to Britons turned to Romans then to Nords then had french influence to end up with modern day English. Assyrians > Persians> Greeks> Romans> ottomans > modern Turkey And so on for another 100 examples of this happening throughout history, in fact I think it's rarer for one culture to stay more or less the same for 1000 years than not.
14:00 I would say it isn't a battle pass because it doesn't reward you for continued playing. The idea of battle passes for FPS games, etc is that you have to keep playing the game to avoid the FOMO on battle pass specific content. This i think is more like the New Frontier pass from civ 6- new content will continue to be released, but you never "miss" things, its totally up to you whether to sign up for or skip new content.
Without playing at all yet, I've to say that the UI seems a little underwhelming. Plain gray fade boxes with a standard font in city building view for example doesn't fit the overall aesthetic or feeling of "grandeur" if you will. I guess it's simple and clear at the same time though but a bit too generic. Still excited to see how it plays though!

@@michaelmayhem350The major update is free. The only thing in the dlc is new civs.
Been waiting for this
Future sales.
Is it weird that my favorite graphical change is that undiscovered tiles?
Price is a bit high, so I'll wait for a bit of a discount and a few patches.
aaaaand back to Civ 5...The story of my life for the past 12 years...
I've played 4 and 6 but is 5 really the best one? Maybe the treasure I've been searching for was right there all along.
100k congrats
7:00 not knowing makes it more fun. Figuring out out and more tactical. I don't want to know all the information especially at the start of a game
I think the fact that it has been 10 years and has minimal content compared to other Civs kind of brings Civ 7 to shame in my opinion.
Can’t wait to play.
i just bought civ 5 complete edition for $13, after 10+ years not touching it. It's a blast after adding community patch, and ingame editor
Looking forward to picking this up on sale in about three years when it has been patched up and has 3x as much content as it did on launch.
Congratz Jumbo, well deserved!
Congrats on the 100K! Based on your experience, do you have any recommendations for one's first game as a leader and first Civ? Thanks for this video and the others you have made. There are lots around, and yours are at the top.
I’ll love it from day 1. Others will love it 6 months later as the Civ cycle usually goes.
Congrats on 100k subs :). I also wonder what modes gonna releases after game's release by great modders.
Thanks for the vid and helping me decide to NOT throw money at this game. Congrats on 100k.
The player: I will make the best possible strategy! I will choose the place of battle! Like Sun Tzu, I will be patient! I will make the best possible upgrades! I will create, upgrade, and put into battle the greatest legion ever created!
The developers: Uh uh, yes, yes...of course...of course...ummm yes...that's right...yes...you choose how, where and how much to develop in the game... uh yes
The game: Turn 150. The era is over! Your time is up!
Well, at least civ 6 wasn't as bugged at the start and didn't allow 1 citizen growth each turn no matter how much food you make... I really hope they will patch it very soon.
It's possible it already is fixed and the build available to the general public later this week won't have it but we will see.
Your videos are always so helpful and inspiring! Thank you for your diligence and passion for creating great content!👏🏻👊🐯
What I think could be neat, would be to add more ages to the game as DLC maybe a Beyond Earth style dlc where you go to a scifi age
To me, the game feels like (because it largely is) developed by the same crew who did Civ 6 - that may be fine, depends on your opinion, but it doesn't really feel as fresh a take on the series in terms of tone, art-direction, UI and general ethos as some other entries did - I for one hope that a new team will take on 8 and deliver a change of direction from this, more 'accessible' and less gritty vibe that has been here since 6
Tell us more about the MEGACITY feature/mechanic!
I have never finished a civ game or for that matter Humankind or any other 4x civ game because the first part is so exiting and the mid/end-game kills the interest, so if the new age system makes the game feel like beginning two or more times, I just welcome it.
Wait a minute... did I see Americas at least one ' the prospector' special unit is literally a builder
Maybe there's more bad choices for civ combinations with civ switching but the reality is there will be 4 effective combinations at best one for each victory if they are unique and zero combinations if they are generic
Can you tell I main japan? lol
Anyways, I think they did a good job picking the Normans and Hawaii as exploration age civs, so hopefully we get some other cool civs to fill the gaps.
Congrats on 100K.
One question I have for the almost immediate DLC being broken into two parts, do we have to pay separately for both parts?
No, I think we’d just pay once for the Collection. It’s just being phase-released in two parts.
@@JumboPixel Ok, that's a little more palatable than having to pay again for every iteration.
It looks worse lol
This is what happens when you replace your development team with Mobile Developers, and bow down to corporate greed that makes no sense unless you're just trying to profit.
Civ 7 is yet another manifestation of the industry choosing profit over innovation.
Don't even get me started on the Live Service and Microstransactions 😬
-real review, likely gonna be censored by Google for no reason lol
The only thing CEO's are about is sales. They went a different way with Civ6 and while you obviously hated it. It sold and it sold a lot. If it hadn't have sold they wouldn't have kept and expanded on the same formula for Civ7. If you bought civ6 you're part of "the problem" so pipe down. This time around don't buy Civ7 not even 5 years from now when all the dlc is out and it's on sale.
The last thing i wanted from civ 7 was it to feel like civ 6 2.0
I'm glad they took some elements from humankind and put it into civ, I loved everything humankind did different from what we get from the civ series
Hear me out
Just keep playing civ v
🫱🏿🫲🏻 the franchise literally peaked with Civ V.
Keep playing civ 1.
"Breaks from history"? I'd argue the ages system is much more in line with actual history than previous civ games
Digivolving into other civs isn't though
@@JohnSmith-rr3jt is it though?
Celts turned to Britons turned to Romans then to Nords then had french influence to end up with modern day English.
Assyrians > Persians> Greeks> Romans> ottomans > modern Turkey
And so on for another 100 examples of this happening throughout history, in fact I think it's rarer for one culture to stay more or less the same for 1000 years than not.
That’s a reference to the Civ - Leader change.
@@MegaSupernowa Oh yeah, cherry picking history. England has a very unique history, most other countries didn't went through such changes
@@l.palacio9076 ummmm absolutely not true, as I said most nations went through such changes, it's actually rare to see one that didn't
Yeah I see it that way too and while I don't like it, it is better than the battlepass system in FPS games.
That was the most half-hearted "it's very good" I've ever heard omg
Without playing at all yet, I've to say that the UI seems a little underwhelming. Plain gray fade boxes with a standard font in city building view for example doesn't fit the overall aesthetic or feeling of "grandeur" if you will. I guess it's simple and clear at the same time though but a bit too generic. Still excited to see how it plays though!
THe town-system was kinda used in master of magic too
I started playing Civ 3 back when I was in my early Teens with my Mother she was a true gamer & a COOL Mother. My she RIP Christine Place 1966-2021.
