The metal plate was included for anyone who wished to cover the 'Replicade' logo (during the kickstarter campaign, there were a significant number of folks who didn't like the logo... This was a compromise...) The Daphne sticker was included as an option, as the original cabinet did not include this artwork. For those who are wishing that DL 2, and/or Space Ace be included, bear in mind that Space Ace had a different control panel, which included three difficulty select buttons, as well as a large 'Energize' button. As for Dragons Lair II, although the control panel layout is similar, the cabinet is a different style, and the 'Sword' buttons are larger. The Replicade Mini-Cabs are not designed to be multi-Game cabs.
(In case anyone is wondering, the next Replicade Mini-Cab is...Asteroids!)
The original Space Ace dedicated and Dragon's Lair conversion control panels had the same normal size red buttons for fire/energize. The 1991 Leland re-release of Space Ace for the Dragon's Lair 2 cabinet had the large buttons.
The replicade guys had a poll during the kickstarter asking if people wanted Daphne on the kickplate or not, they ended up including the sticker and leaving it up to the buyer
the little metal plate is if you don't like the replitronics logo, this would cover that up on the front
I saw DL in many arcades in 83-84, and never remember seeing Daphne art on the front below the coin door - was that ever a thing or was that a bit of fan art Replicade included?
The coverplate is a neat idea for those who want to print their own Cinematronics sticker logo for the front, but I do like the raised letters on the uncovered door (my fullsize doesn't have the raised letter door).
Now I want to see them do an inverted / pedestal dedicated mini Space Ace cab. (DL Time Warp - man that cab was so much fugly - no rush there).
Glad to see you updated your video. If you Google vintage Dragons Lair arcade cabinets you will find a couple photos of the Daphne decal on the kick panel. I guess it was a rare decal and not on a majority of these games back in the day. And yes, the little black plate is to cover the Replitronics logo for those that don’t want to see it.
I never saw it on US machines - although Atari UK DK cabs may have had it? Any Brits know?

Little replicas of things have always caught my fancy. I find it fascinating that they made a replica that really looks and works like the real machine. When I was a little kid, I was into TRS-80 microcomputers, and I had a dream that there was a little replica of a TRS-80 Model II computer. This machine reminds me of the concept I had of a replica computer. Replicas like that could only be made in the 21st Century, because back in the day, machines were big for a reason. The electronics could only be shrunken down years in the future.

Daphne kickplate decal was never on the original arcade. New Wave included it as a bonus option if you want to use it. The metal plate is for those who want to cover the Replicade coin door logo. It was part of the Kickstarter changes after a poll about the logo.
The Repro is using the first series roms that skipped over the drawbridge (it also skipped over the 'ye boulders sign' visible on the LD - to make it a bit faster at the start of the river). Later versions - even iOS - included the drawbridge (and the ye-boulders sign) with one input move, but (if I recall) the version they cut out had 3 moves. Sword, Up, Right - which for starting out of the gate would have drove new players nuts. Plus the idea that a different room would present itself (if you died) didn't make sense if you haven't even gotten into the castle yet. So it's on the LD - but it was edited out of the game in the arcades.
And since it's a repro of the arcade cab, it's not here either (and that's fine - I can admire the drawbridge on my phone anyway).

On the Rapids scene, you can also push up when Dirk's boat enters the pale water.
In the Kickstarter updates, New Wave explained they could not use the Cinemaronics logo on the coin door for legal reasons. The little metal plate allows you to print your own mini Cinematronics logo, stick on the little metal plate, and cover up the Replitronics logo. I know how that sounds, but that's what they said it was for in the update. Cheers.
That's Pretty Cool! I'll have to get one to put on the shelf in the garage. Just found you, I started a channel a while back about arcade repair. I'm a former Tech that worked in many arcades so I decided to start making videos on arcades. Glad I found you, maybe can bounce ideas around for different repairs and tips. I think that if you set the difficulty up on your Dragon's Lair arcade machine, in the dipswitch settings, the drawbridge scene may re-appear.
Nice some cool extras in there. I'd do the same thing and jump straight in to opening it without looking or reading the manual.
That [last] scene you say you can never do, which you died on in the first video too, the first move is always in the direction of his sword! 😉 The arcade game doesn't give you time to wait for the ground to collapse to gauge the direction either!
2020 end of year walk through would be nice :)
Changing the difficulty settings will change the way the game shows the scenes. It will even add extra moves to certain scenes for example the "King Bat" level and an extra move against singe and the night on the horse level. The game is uber hard for most players even on easy so I would suggest usually playing on easy. DL2 was by far the hardest of the trilogy. Collecting all those treasures to finish the game is a video game nightmare....
Expert mode on Space Ace also gave you far more scenes than easy mode.

Your Dragons Slayer does have the Draw Bridge part on your laserdisc arcade. I've never played an arcade Dragons Slayer that didn't have it back in the days. That level is in it, I think you have to play it in hard mode.

The replicade let’s you pick unlimited lives - so if you want to beat without using the internet I recommended I beat on the sega Cd, Wii , 3do and countless others / but never the arcade - so this is the closest I got. I love this thing !

DL inspired me to go to art school for animation, then got hired by Atari.. 22 yrs later im a game dev and worked on some biggies. You helped me get a bit if my inspiration, thanks!! If you download the Dragon's Lair app for Android, it gives you the option to start at the drawbridge scene with the tentacle beast, or bypass it altogether.
Hey John love your videos. I have an original Streetfighters deluxe cab that originally had the Pneumatic punch and kick controls I am trying to restore it to original and was hoping in your many travels you might keep an eye out for the control panels for me. Thanks Bill

The user "Alpha-Tron" is the guy who bought John's Journey for his museum (he also mentioned the fact that the sound was not working anymore when he got the game and that he had to fix it before being able to put it on location)

They said they would. Thank goodness too - because I suspected with all the YTubers reviewing it and it coming out ahead of Xmas, I'd need to pounce on it ASAP (which I did). They run their titles for 'about' a year (or just over a year) before discontinuing. Here's hoping they stretch this one a bit more because I'm sure supply has been COVID clobbered (like a lot else this year).

Burn a set of 1.1 or 2.1 Dragon's Lair Enhanced ROMs for your original machine, it adds the drawbridge in. 2.1 changes the sequence of gameplay significantly. None of the available officially available ROM revisions A through F2 have the drawbridge.
I played a prototype in Margate in 83 i think it was being site tested a guy i met playing it had found a way to get infinite lives and we played it right through this version had the drawbridge but i never seen it again in Scotland so they must have changed it.
If you go to dragonslairproject.com, you'll find an exhaustive amount of info on lives and varieties. Including an easter egg (which should be on this replica since it's using the arcade ROMs) of holding the joystick up and left and using the sword during the attract mode to get infinite lives.
You gotta get rid of Journey .turn it into a Mame arcade 🤣

Weird that the viewer saw the draw bridge in Mame because Dragon's Lair doesn't work in Mame.
Also, there isn't rom version 2.1, only versions A through F2.
The first time I ever saw the drawbridge scene was on the Commodore Amiga version of the game. I’ve played it a ton in the arcades since it’s release, and I never saw the drawbridge scene in the arcades. I have also never seen a cabinet with Daphne artwork on the kick plate. I left it off my Replicade.
He probably meant the enhanced V2.1 which was a fan edit that added it back in, removed the mirror levels (it would randomise which version of each room you'd get) and changed the order of the levels so it better resembled the 3 depths of the castle (with a falling disc in between each set). Plus added an extra secret move for the giddy goons. Its a great update if you havent tried it yet. Its playable on Daphine emulator

@@c3j3p3 people have lives though. i was in the arcade hobby even before john and got bored of it. off and on kind of hting. as you get older we get interested in other things also. and someone with a family, that always has to come first and foremost

@@Johnsarcade Lakes Region Casino poker tournaments, shooting range at the Belmont Firing Range and the entire game room at ACAM - all open for business. Only thing that was shut down for January was bingo - have to keep the seniors safe! For the record, all the games are running at peak performance as I imagine they’ve gotten little usage recently. Great time!

Not trying to annoy you John but I’m sad that some of the rare games are leaving.
John also said he would never get rid of Tempest. That's just the nature of the hobby however, after years of the same games and eventually running low on room, even games that are beloved & get occasional play have to be cycled out to make room for new games. That's how to keep it fresh & keep it interesting. He got rid of quite a few during his hiatus to make more space for podcasting & music recording, which I respect, gotta have a nice music area. That said, I would genuinely be surprised if he ever got rid of Donkey Kong or Pole Position.
This is all true...it just sucks to see rare unique games go.
