I have the same shoes and were having a trouble in SPD cleat catch. Crankbrothers shoe shields do work fantastic! Thank you!!

Really appreciate your honest review of these shoes. I’m looking to get a pair myself and your videos have been incredibly helpful. Thank you

Dylan Richardson np. Only thing I can say now that I have had a full season on them is that the tongue hits the very top of my foot and can be a little painful on long rides. When you try them on tighten them up and point your toes up and make sure they don’t pinch at the top

Did you try crossing the BOA wire to eliminate the pinch point over the tongue? How are they fairing? A year has passed since the last "update", how do you feel about them today?

It really had nothing to do with the boa. More the longer firm tongue that was rubbing my tendon on the top of my foot.
I ended up selling them on and getting the Specialized S-Works Exos EVO. Which are a little more comfortable in that area.

Great video and thanks! Question, do you run eggbeater 3s on your bike? Or just use that metal guard from them? Thanks!

Luke Ranum no I just use the guards on the shoes. I use time Xc carbon pedals

2 questions. In your previous video about these shoes you thought they might get hot. Have you used them in warm weather yet to know if they get hot? My second question is about using them on the road. I use the mountain bike style pedals on my road bike and I was wondering about your opinion on that. Would these be good shoes for the road or would I be better off switching to a road pedal and road shoe? I am more concerned with comfort than anything because I will ride 2 to 6 hours at a time, which is why I use MTB pedals to begin with.

Chad thanks for the questions. Used them all last summer and didn’t notice them being hot. But I also didn’t think they where the most vented shoes I have ever used. To your second question. It really depends on your road riding style. If you are cruising along for 5 hours I think mtb cleats will work fine. In fact when I do longer bike packing rides I use the mtb shoes on my road bike. That will allow you to spend more money on one nice set of shoes rather then two med priced shoes. Be aware though that both the mtb shoe and road can be tight across the tendon on the top of your foot where your shin and ankle meet. (The one that comes up when you pull up your big toe)

I have the Specialized S-works 6 road shoes, and I find the un-padded tongue is poorly designed and digs into my instep (Extensor digitorum longus tendon) I was kinda hoping the more padded tongue on the 7 would have solved this issue, obviously it didn't. I was riding Bont Vaypors for several years and never had this issue because the top boa dial on the Bont shoes is positioned a fraction lower, and the tongue has specifically padded slot to allow the rider room to dorsiflex more (heels down during the pedal stroke) without the damn tongue digging in... The S-works 7 solved quite a lot of the issues people had with the S-works 6, with it's slightly less aggressive heel cup, more flexible Dynema material around the ankle and slightly wider toe box.. Perhaps Specialized will solve these issues in the S-Works 9 and Recon MTB shoes????

Juan More Time 68 totally agree. I even have a build up on the tendon in response to the irrigation. It’s not really painful to ride anymore, but having a bump on the tendon is disconcerting

what is your current review on these shoes? Are they still as durable and comfortable as when you published this video?

    • @kevinwalker5915

      Hi Lule,
Only issue I have had is a little pinch at the top of my foot/ankle. Right where the tongue meets the foot. Not a huge deal and it might be just my foot.
Two years on and they are holding up well. There is a small separation of the toe plastic away from the main body.
All in all still happy 4 out of 5 I would say.

@@kevinwalker5915 Thanks for this. I read on the Sworks reviews site, one customer mentioned that if you cross the boa strings (top boa string hooked into bottom boa string-hook and bottom boa string hooked into top boa string-hook), that pinch issue is resolved.

the key question is are they worth $425US and are they better than the other $400 shoes out on the market

Hi. Do you have the "wide" version of the Recon or just the regular size version? Thanks.

    • @kevinwalker5915
      @kevinwalker5915  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Mathieu Davis they don’t sell a wide version in Canada. This is just the normal version. They are noticeably wider then previous years.

Thanks for the review. In the future consider using a script as you keep repeating yourself and are rambling on a bit.
