Many inert transparent fillers are good for tune down titanium. Other stable low RI white are good to repalce zinc, though not available commercially, that I have been doing experiment with.
it does, but depends on the technique. Impasto - strong no. Glazes and thin layers - no problems. Also in what mix proportions - if it is mostly zinc - it is a bad idea. If it is lets say 50/50 - totally fine. Other pigments tends to stabilize it to great extend.
I love the idea of the underpainting white but unfortunately it contains PW5 which is quite an inferior pigment
