Quite simply one of the most exciting rock performances ever...the drummer is my hero...the song is almost unknown..but has been a classic in my head since the Groovies recorded it...and thanks to Jack White I discovered Wanda Jackson...and saw her in concert last week... Bring back The Raconteurs I say...Rock and Roll is here to stay...
The Raconteurs are one of few bands that could put out an album full of covers, and have it hold up to their original stuff... and the covers be better than the original versions.
Not this cover, though. It lacks the combination of loose and flowing intensityintensity that the original does. This has intensity, but is more tight fisted.
@@eastwest42286 The Flamingo album is packed with both high energy numbers like this tune and more soulful songs like Childhood's End and She's Falling Apart. A killer LP indeed. Also like Teenage Head, another great collection of original compositions given that in later years the band did a lot of cover versions.
Loved this when I saw it on ACL years ago. When I looked for it on Itunes, I couldn't find a listing, but I did find a version from 2001 by the Maggots (Sorry, the Flaming Groovies weren't listed either. Admittedly, I thought the Raconteurs were covering the Maggots!), which I purchased. Similar feel and tempo. Recommended.
If you enjoy this song, then you owe it to yourself to listen to the album from which the original was on: Flamingo by the Flamin’ Groovies released in 1970. A rock ‘n’ roll classic! But don’t stop there, you must then listen to Teenage Head, which was released the following year. Brilliant!
If you mean it was "borrowed" from Ray Charles' "I Don't Need No Doctor", I agree. But let's face it, everyone borrowed from everyone and still do. The lyrics are most definitely Flamin' Groovies lyrics.
One of the few songs UI ever learnt the solo off Cyril San Francisco every weekend Groovies gig was our hit Cyril got pissed off with us Brit lsads because Danny Mihm met us in the bar before gigs Like Baldy was a saint!
does anyone know where to get any good live performances of them on dvd? i swear i've been jamming their live videos off youtube through my phone and into the car for weeks months now...even more than the actual albums.
I have looked on Amazon & this performance(on DVD) is not avaliable. Does anybody know of where else I could look? I a huge Raconteurs fan, & would love to have a legit copy of their performance on austin city limits.
it must be the first time the Groovies got any royalties for one of them killer tunes.... thanks to Jack White even if I still prefer the Flaming(o) version
i dig the cover, but the Flaming Groovies pull off the ending so much better... Of course, They wrote the song. Raconteurs still rule for covering the Flaming Groovies though. Long Live Rock!!!

I love this cover.
The Flamin' Groovies would be proud of them !
I wish they would put this on DVD.
Respect the Flamin' Groovies!
I discovered Flamin' Groovies when I saw The White Stripes doing Teenage Head in a medley, many years ago, and I'm thankful to Jack for knowing them.
I love that they are true to the double solo, it's what brings the song to it's climax.
never heard of Raconteurs till now. thumbs up to them for covering such a great song
Is this the Best Groovies Groove ever?
Best Rock n' Roll band around.

Nothing beats the original from 1970 by Flamin’ Groovies.
@@eastwest42286 This cover is played faster than the Groovies version and has similar guitar riffs but as you say, the original song is unbeatable
@@bodhiapurva3887 well said.

Couldn't agree more.
Except they didn't write it. They covered it as well
@@AncientCreature-i2o That doesn't mean the comment isn't right and that the two albums are classics that you should listen too.
@@AncientCreature-i2o All online sources say written by Loney & Jordan of Flaming Groovies. If they didn't write it, who did?

Monterey jazz festival is on 📀. Only one I know of
Jack White makes my skin crawl, but that fucking rocked.
°___° my mind was blown away...
i like brendan`s guild more than his telecaster, its more interesting sounding and looking.
the vocal sounds exactly the same as the white stripes - outlaw blues [bob dylan cover]

It's Flamin and it's Groovy, but the tempo runs past and kinda smears some of the spaces that make the Flamingo version punch so hard.
@algrand90 tss tss
Illegal downloading is bad :(
Encourage them, buy the DVD 10 times!!
Can someone please message me an mp3 of this song, please i beg you
@TheRacboys

it must be the first time the Groovies got any royalties for one of them killer tunes.... thanks to Jack White even if I still prefer the Flaming(o) version
@WorkingKlassHero, agreed
i can't disagree with that but theres plenty of good bands nowadays! good for us
Patrick Keeler is the best damn drummer in the world.

i dig the cover, but the Flaming Groovies pull off the ending so much better... Of course, They wrote the song. Raconteurs still rule for covering the Flaming Groovies though. Long Live Rock!!!

@BloodPlzKThnxLol INhuman, but you are right, he's completely insane.
