I believe this is the most comprehensive guide for reviving a MacBook dead SSD. Thank you, guys, for your efforts!
Thank you, and thanks for watching! :)
Anyone else watch Mac repair tutorials even if they don’t apply to you?
even i dont have i device 😅
I have seen most of the videos by this guy just to understand WTF is going in the Apple world and to brace myself for anything which my model might show up. FML!
my classmate in college has M1 mac died for no reason, and now i understand why, cheap power management, cheap power converter and cheap capacitor.
@@isa_L - Interesting. Never really gave it much thought to what might be the possibilities for Macs going bad. Thankfully I'm using all legit hardware like docking station, additional charging cable, charging brick, etc.
@@hottroddinn all the factor including quality build of MacBook and other mac's are just not good, they use cheap ceramic capacitor on board, so if not the power that gets your mac, over time, the capacitor will.
this video is crazy GREAT! a lot of good information. Thumbs up for you.
Great video Mat and always love your sense of humour 😂
Thank you as always Peter! and thanks for reposting this to the group :)
@@iBoffRCC always spreading the word of the Mac God 🤣
love your videos! Thank you :)
Thanks For Sharing :)
That is a next level repair, only the real pro's can do this.
Love your work i run a small MacBook repair shop and i do olso logic board repair so i will give this a Attempt
thanks for watching! :)
Love these videos.
Glad you like them! Thank you, and thanks for watching! :)
Could you theoretically swap the t2 chips from 1g to 2g to bypass the 500gb storage limit?
Nice Video (again...) But... What if....
Lets say i can get brand new NANDS and want to place it in a A2141 1TB MacBook... But i only can get 256GB, 512GB and so on NANDS? Can i just place 4 NANDS (256GB each) or just 2 NANDS (512GB each) on the Board? How do i program it with the JC Programer?
Or do i need always 6 NANDS and have to reprogram it like the others and have to "live" with the more usable storage?
Kind regards..
Where can I find the electrical drawings shown in the video? Is there a website to find out which NAND is placed at 00 or 01?
ask sir.
If the U9580 and its landing pad burn out, can I empty port 00 and install 2 nands in empty port 01?
Hi. Why do the NAND become short after replacing them. What could I be doing wrong.
I get them from another board without short at all. Reball them and solder them to the target board and suddenly there’s a short on 0V9 rail.
Please help
SSD replacement is possible in Macbook Air M2 2023 model ?
Because apple charged me $630 cost for replace entire motherboard.
Skills! Wow! Amazing
Thank you, and thanks for watching! :)
i didn’t know there’s a ssd capacity limitation due to different t2 chip variant. thank you for information.
thanks for watching! :)
Amazing video
Thank you, and thanks for watching! :)
Hi can you explain can use iphone nand to macbook for upgrads or replace ?
The connector to a fpc (flexible printed circuit) is technically called a ffc (flat flexible(printed circuit) contector.) at least that's how the manufacturers of the parts designate them on mouser and digi key
this is some insane next-level stuff
Thank you, and thanks for watching! :)
I replaced all 4 NANDs as per the JC Programmer and put them at the correct places.
All 4 are 00 of 0/1/2/4th Order.
Power Rails are stable for more than 30 seconds.
Pp2v5
Ppbus (12.3V)
Machine detects in recovery mode.
I did a bare board restore and got error 1.
Connected the trackpad and everything else.
Now i get USB Host Error 9.
Where could i have gone wrong ??
Is a trackpad required for DFU restore M-based macs? Anything else?
I got a pretty good offer for a brandnew and not used A2141 but im so scare of one day the TPS 62180 blow out and i have a expensive piece of metal decoration . This model has so many troubles . Idk if i should pull the trigger , haha . Very informative video and good work guys
I bought one a week ago, i never left anything connected on their USB c port's,,
i own non soldered ssd macbooks. though i like the new m1, 2, etc am not thrilled with the issues related to ssd's
You have good experience and useful information for those who work in the field of repairing Apple devices, In law, Apple does not have the right to exploit theirs users to go to their specialized branches, Because the price of the device has been paid. Only those who have the right to protect their Software .
Thank you for giving useful information. Great 👍 work
What temperature do you recommend I use to remove the Nand
Does this method apply to the Air M1 model?
Thank you boss
Thanks for watching! :)
Silently praying that it will be possible to do modifications similar to your kits for A1706 and A1707 as someone with practically next to nil soldering capabilities
You have my respect for the thorough research on the Macs
I know right, that mod is gonna be awesome on these models, but T2 is making things hard. Thanks for watching!
how to program 2 nand tsb 4226 or tsb4227 on p13 sir?
Late reply but I love the work you do on your channel
thank you! 😬
Well, I have my 2019 16 inch MBP Pro 1TB... it's still working fine but is there anything that can be done to prevent this from happening? Like the blown chip that sends the 12V to the SSDs?
next time dont buy a flawned notebook,
so what do you charge for this? because I just bought one of these macbook pro's... yikes
Tip for unsoldering the NANDs: Cover each of the 4 sides components with Kapton tape. Then use hot air gun for unsoldering and resoldering the new NANDs.
Awesome as always!! How would you attempt 2TB using JC?
We have a2141 2TB configuration that utilizes 6x TSB4232, 1x TSB4228. but we dont have time to extract the firmware yet, and then it can be copied to other NANDs
@@iBoffRCCDidn‘t know that you can extract the firmware. If you guide me I can do as well. have 2tb version too
Is this just an issue on the 16 inch model?
a question, I have a 1TB MacBook Pro with only one punctured U9100 SSD disk and it's broken, just replace the broken U9100 disk taken from a donor motherboard and reprogram it with the jc p13 programmer, or you have to replace all six disks SSDs taken from donor motherboards?
You need to replace all six
Is JC programmer always need, or only when NAND chips are mixed up? If you removed 4x NAND from A1989, kept them in proper 0-1-2-3 order, and solder to A1990, will it work without JC?
Yes it will work just fine, and that means youre doing the Direct Transplant method.
hello fantastic guide, does a JP P11F programer work for the purpose?
We don't own it so we're not sure
If I remove 512G Sandisk can I replace with 256G Toshiba from donor board?
Thanks
Love your vids
yes you surely can, thanks for watching!
hello... can i downgrade 1tb to 750gb?...
Does HP Elitebooks model have the same problem of upgrading Or it only applies to Macbook?
Most of the elitebooks are user upgradable without any kind of problem , just search for the model you want in youtube.
According to Rossman you can't repair the MacBook with SSD, is this true or can they be fixed, this is my decision factor for buying a MacBook
I have one of these laptops, is there any preventative maintenance that can be done to stop the component from exploding and killing my ssd?
Most of the time the exploded ones will be covered in dust or due to water damage. This is most of the cases, but unfortunately sometimes(very rare) it does happen to pristine logicboard like the first clip in this video.
@@iBoffRCCthank you! I got this laptop used this year so I’ll take the cover off to take a look
bravoo
Dear iBoff,
does the A2141 MacBook with a Radeon Pro 5500M have the same Logic Board like the version with the Radeon Pro 5600M?
It differs at the GPU footprint. 5600M no gddr5 vram, because it has HBM2 on the die.
@@iBoffRCC That's right, but is the footprint really different, or did they just let the GDDR6 ram on the logic board away and built the chip instead with the HBM2 chips on board to the same PCB?
how much for this repair in ringgit? i'm looking for a macbook that can run windows, unfortunately m1 pro can't do that
Depends on the storage size. 120gb is around MYR600
Can you do the same for Mac Mini M1 with dead ssd?
Hi, yes basically the same principle of The Landing Pads Rule apply
Does M1 macs have TPS62180? Or does they use different chips?
Yes, they use that IC on the 14inch and 16inch macbooks. But this time they use it for right USB-C port power. And it can explode as well. We have upcoming video explaining failure about that.
@iBoffRCC Ok thanks for the answer! I have M1 air and I like it alot. Im so scared when it gonna break, eventhough I just bought it like month ago. I just hope it will last as long as possible. Keep up doing the great videos. :)
can you please tell if i need to do data buck up by switching all nand with the correct order from dead logic bored to a working logic bored if im able to see my files and get them back ??
you need to transplant T2, NANDs, and T2 rom to get your data back
SSD's last well beyond the life cycle of any Macbook or MacBook Pro. Get real kid. @@iBoffRCC
@@iBoffRCCcan this be done with an M1 Pro 16in MacBook Pro? Can my data be saved with this method? Mine is experiencing this. (Laptop won’t turn on and won’t boot, dead some volts went to the nand as far as I know.) It’s a 512gb ssd. I don’t have a backup…
@@tdm17mn You can email us all the pictures on the logicboard to determine whether your NANDs dead or not:

This is why I hate all laptops with soldered SSD, they are all on borrowed time
Lama tak upload video. Harap2 semuanya ok.
I just wish my TPS 62180's didnt seem to always have crater holes underneaath. lol
Yeahh, as long as the BGA pads still there, we can still repair them lol
Can the 1gb T2 chip be replaced with a 2gb T2 chip so the nands can get a total of 8tb of storage?
Technically yes
@@iBoffRCCThanks
is there a way to protect the nands before faliure?
A software called DriveDx will help monitor SSD health
@@amritsidhu8657 no against the short and subsequent destruction of the nands
@lachlanlau Maybe soldering TVS diodes in the output of the TPS chip, if the chip short itself the diodes could protect the NANDs from the high voltage, HDDs have this kind of diodes and a saw a few that was saved by them.
❤❤❤
apple like to made things ugly and unrepairable,is it really that hard to put a m2 drive like all others do😢
i think there is posibility to make nand emulator....
And they decided to underfill EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE V-REG THAT HAS INPUT AN OUTPUT NEXT TO EACH OTHER 😂🎉😢
Quick note: A1990 suffers the same issue
Yes youre right, we've covered how to fix A1990 at the end of this video
please make more videos, 10 in a month, not 1 in 6 months😭😭😭
We wish one day our team will be capable of doing that. We'll do our best and thank you for your support! :)
