I was so down when hearing the intro, I was sure you were talking about doing your tfl this week. Was so relieved to hear it was 8years ago! I've never routed for an athlete as much as I root for you. You're so authentic, raw and relatable. You give such amazing help and advice to others too. No matter what happens, you're an absolute champion. Now go out and have fun Kid; enjoy that fitness you've earned and the race will take care of itself.
Just done Manchester Marathon 4:07 . Amazing feeling started cramping about 19 -20 mile lost about 20 mins the last 6 mile still proud of myself it’s not easy
Hey Stephen, good luck at London! You are a huge inspiration to my whole family. Me and my Mom are working towards qualifying for Boston, and watching your videos has helped us through the many ups and downs on our journey. We'll be watching the race on Sunday to support you! YOU'VE GOT THIS!!!
Hope all your training comes together and you have a great race in London. Thanks for all the advice and your honesty in sharing your own thoughts and experiences 👍🏼
It's been a privilege to get a chance to see a little of what it's like for the person behind the athlete, and an education to see how you have approached and dealt with everything during this plan so far. Good luck for London!
Your videos, your teachings and your experiences are inspiring. Thank you so much. I wish you a wonderful time, go and enjoy London. Race your race. Finish feeling content. Remember that the final analysis is always in hindsight.
Great advice from an amazing athlete ! 🏔️🏃♂️💪 enjoy London and good luck . Edinburgh in 6 weeks for me (first marathon )🙏🙌 Advice from years of experience doesn’t come by often, I’m definitely taking away a lot from your channel as a new marathon runner. Thank you for sharing your journey and story
Thanks for your motivational words! I’m doing London too and I’m excited and terrified! Listening to you helped calm me down. We all going to have a great day next Sunday 🎉❤
Loved this. Am going to be super slowly running London on Sunday. Have been ill all week and now I have adapted my goal to just making it round! I hope you have a magic run and enjoy it. 😊
🙌 positive talk 🙌 When I was a children’s swimming coach I found the more positive and excited I was for my swimmers before their races the better they performed. Now I use positive self-talk during hard runs and hikes and it seems to make effort seem easier.
Great video Stephen 👍 I will carry those thoughts around London next weekend. Have a fantastic race! It's always a great day out there with an incredible atmosphere. I saw a quote on the London marathon strava page the other day, it said "you've done the hard work, the marathon is just the victory lap"
Genuine words. Embrace running - Daily! It's crucial to remember our roots and resist comparing ourselves to those around us. Wishing you all the best for YOUR London marathon! Enjoy!
Very touching video Stephen, I was coming into the video expecting numbers and days and came out with a new found respect for myself! Good luck in London, it’s just another Sunday!
Your VLOGs are always super engaging, open and honest and this is just what I needed in the week leading up to TCS London Marathon. As you said before “don’t be a victim, be an animal”, have a cracking race!!
I am struggling to come back from long Covid, with a half marathon coming next weekend and I did my last long and then hard runs the other week. Went really well, and now I started getting into my head about maybe maybe I’m back and ready for pb time and started getting in my own head. This talk was perfectly on time.. gotta remember to go out there for the fun, the time matters to no one.
Thanks for all this running and life wisdom, Stephen. May you have the best London race that is possible on the day! Your video about breathing a few weeks ago was really valuable for me. I shifted from focusing on the inhale to focus on my exhale and just allow the inhale to happen. I ran a 5K PB yesterday and came through the 2nd half past people who were audibly struggling to pull a breath in, which I realize now is introducing ever more tension into their body. I managed to redline my HR and pace by the end without ever feeling like I was struggling to breathe.
I'm running the Vienna Marathon, also on the 21st, and this was really helpful. Good luck Stephen and thanks for your fantastic videos. They're some of my favorites on this website.
Good luck for London Steven. I'll be rooting for you. Hope you achieve your goal. You've put in all the work. Hope it goes well for you. You are a true inspiration.
Thanks for very another inspiring video Stephen -wise words and an important message to enjoy life. I’ll be rooting for you this Sunday. ENJOY - you’ve earned it.
Thanks so much for making these videos and being transparent. I just listened to Sydney McLaughlins book on on audible. If you get a chance give it a listen she talks a lot about mental struggle before big events and finding peace in the midst of it. You are going to do great at London. Kill it my TH-cam friend. God bless
Such a solid message that can be applied in multiple areas of life! I'm training for a half marathon in June and I'm going to use this wisdom along the way.
I got an injury in the top of my left foot. About a month ago it was a similar thing in my right. I think its tendinitus, hopefully my doctor will call back this week. It is causing a lot of fear because I can’t run. I was able to walk the 9 miles that was scheduled as my long run today without as much pain as the start of last week. I am trying not to overdo it like I did with my right. Physical therapy and profesional shoe fitting are the next steps but just sitting here on a sunday afternoon with the sun out, completely exhasuted, is wearing on me. I took advantage of being able bodied for so long and can barely handle a few weeks off recovering with an injury. Its given me a new appreciation for my legs and feet. I really hope to be able to do a light run by the end of this week. Yoga and legs up the wall have helped today. Thank you for all the videos you make, they have helped me immensely. I ran my first race ever last september, Presque Isle marathon. A little much for the first race but it was one of the best decisions i ever made as it lit the fire. I want to do it again this year. Thanks again, -Julie
We think ur a beast! We are so proud of you!!!! I totally, utterly & completely mean that!! All the absolute very best for London Stephen, u have most definitely got this!! Go CrUsH it!!!💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Be confident Scully .... just like Dublin... ease into it... settle and then work steady hard... you set your PB in London,,, you can set another one 👍
Good luck in London!!! Serious question: Trained 12 weeks for a marathon I hoped to go sub 3:15 and have a time to enter the 2025 World Majors Masters AG championships. Day before, the race is canceled. Beyond being depressed as I think I was in 3:10 shape, what now? I've decided that going for another marathon in a few weeks doesn't make sense. Right now the plan is to be happy I'm healthy, take a few down weeks and go nice and EZ with fun running and cross training. Then train for the fall where I was invited to run in Sydney for the 2024 AG championships. What would your plan be in a scenario like this? Any advice appreciated! (PS 60yr old; running 40-60mpw outside of block and 55-75mpw in my blocks; 3:08:22 PR in December 2023)
How do you know you get all your carbs during the race? Lets say the sportsdrink at the race have a weak mixture? Do you have 10 gels with you or how do you solve it?
You are a fucking Beast, trust me I know because I’m a fucking Beast too. Crush it Brothah, you’re ready. You’ve helped me with my training immensely. I start my 2650mi PCT thru-hike in 10 days. LETS GO🎉
its the bad runs that show you how fit you really are! (in comparing the difference). I'd fly up this massive hill no problems! and one day I was so exhausted at the end of the run, i could barely push my ass up there! But amongst the struggle, I was just so happy that I could see how difficult it actually is to a less fit person! I put these strains on myself for the purpose of constantly improving as efficiently as i can, but it intoxicates me
So you’re not injured? People click on negative headlines because they have an emotional reaction to the headline, which given this thumbnail, is a negative emotional reaction and therefore a mild stress response. I’ve been following and enjoying your channel anyway, so please can you spare my emotions? BEST OF LUCK IN LONDON!
You'll be the most followed athlete at London Marathon 😅. We are ALL supporting you 🙏🏽
