    Back in like 1997, my boss at the bike shop I worked at got hooked up with a set of the first wireless shifting system, made by Mavic. He installed it on this sick titanium frame road bike that he had. It was ultra-pimp.... We went out for a ride from his house, left from his garage, and 20 ft down the road the bike wouldn't shift. We went back into the garage, re-adjusted the derailleur and left the garage again. 20 ft down the road, the thing wouldn't shift... He was like, WTF!!?? We went back in the garage, re-adjusted the derailleur perfectly again, but it started raining so we hit the garage door button. All the sudden, the bike wouldn't shift again..... the friggin' garage door opener was reprogramming the damn derailleur with its signal..... hahahahaha!!!!

    The reason why that groupset doesn't include a front derailleur clamp is because most road bikes today, especially carbon frames, have a derailleur mount tab (often called a braze-on) because seat tuves are usually not a round tube.
    Another reason it wouldn't is, if it does need to mount to a round seat tube, there are different diameters (28.6, 31.8, 34.9 mm) and they would need to offer that in various SKUs.

    Usually, what I do when mounting brake levers is hold a ruler at the flat part of of the bottom of the handlebars and slide the bottom of the brake lever handle until it touches the ruler.

    This was a feel good episode from beginning to end. Love the family dynamic! Your T-shirts are awesome. Some cool upgrades for sure but...? You're going to have to find some damn expensive tires if you're going to keep every component more expensive than the bike.
    If you're worried about apps keep an old phone and do a factory reset. I have an old Android (no sim but wifi works) just for an e-bike app I didn't want on my phone.

    My girl just bought one of these bikes and I had the same problem getting the seat to stop spinning. I took a small patch of scotch brite pad and sanded the inside of the seat tube vertically and the problem is gone. Just a bit of overspray in there from when they painted the frame so a little abrasion goes a long way.

    • @WOLFTICKVIDEOS
      @WOLFTICKVIDEOS  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Damn good thinking, that's super annoying! Lol

    • @MB-jz3uu
      @MB-jz3uu 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Just be careful. Steel can rust and the oxidation can almost bond it to the aluminum of the frame where it's very hard to remove. So make sure you really grease it.

    • @shane0clock716
      @shane0clock716 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MB-jz3uu Oh I know about bimetallic corrosion lol. The idea isn't to sand to bare metal, just enough to make abrasions perpendicular to the direction your seat post wants to rotate.

    When it comes to wrist issues the height angle of the levers is crucial. My wrists always were my biggest weakspot when riding bikes and it took me some time to get a position that fits me well. I'd also strongly recommend the Redshift Suspension stem - you get up to 2cm of "travel" from the handlebar that way with exchangeable elastomers on the inside. It's also improves traction and handling over rough stuff quite a bit. And you barely notice it other than it magically feeling less harsh than you would expect, looking at the terrain you're riding.
    The bartape will also help I'm sure - the original stuff looks paper thin.

  • @armandocardenas6094

    wrist pain = hood/brifter need adjusted so your wrist is in the ideal position not bent downwards if they're too far down on the drop. New seat post has a 25mm offset versus the stock 0mm which is offset by the new stem but will influence your position over the pedals. if wrist is sore from overextension, new stem plus 0mm offset seatpost might work better. very cool groupset

  • @jeffreyhoops3611
    @jeffreyhoops3611 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The real hook-up that I would do would be to go one- by with a wide range cassette in the back and use the front (left hand) shifter to actuate the dropper that a bike like this would benefit from.

  • @TheArimatheus
    @TheArimatheus 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Yes, direct mount FD (braze on it's called) vs clamp mount.
    There's a LOT of videos on TH-cam right now about this groupset, and all of them bemoan the app and the difficulty of "teaching" the derailleur exactly how many cogs you have, and their individual sizes.
    That slight front derailleur movement you need to avoid chain rub is called "trim" and you'll have to set that in the app also.
    The app is basically all in Chinese. Hence why I am a much bigger fan of AXS, that system works just so well, no little tiny button on the right shifter that's hard to hit with long finger gloves on.

    The brifters are installed too low. Usually, you start with putting something straight to the bottom of the drops and alligning the end of the lever there. Then you go out with a multitool and do a ride. Adjust where comfortable. Then, you can wrap your bars.

  • @doesitgame
    @doesitgame 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Rubber grippy part atop the lever is colloquially the “hood” or “top” hand position.
    A “gravel group” will usually include a clutched RD with road pull ratios (MTB 11+ vs road 11+ is a marginally different cog pitch) and a FD that accommodates smaller minimum chainring sizes.

    Hey guys, been a long time but I am watching the whole gravel bike series you guys are doing and loving it.
    1. If you are really going to put down some miles on this thing, get it really dialed in for wise. You can really damage some things on your body in just 20-30 miles with a bad fit. Ask me how I know…just really take the time to dial it all in where it feels great before you go for a grind. I wrecked my back with bad setup on my first long gravel ride 3 years ago and still deal with it.
    2. You mentioned loading it all up with bags and stuff, if you’re doing it to actually use it, go for it. Otherwise keep it light and fast. Heavy bags and stuff can really mess with bike handling and you don’t seem to confident on it the RTR.
    3. Play with tire pressure, 5-7psi is a world of difference on skinny tires. Drop from 50 to 45 and see what you think on control.
    4. MTB to gravel transition needs to be over time. Not a huge time but like 6 weeks maybe. Gradually increase your distance to let all your muscles start to stretch out a little more in your back and what not. Stretch a ton in the beginning.

    you guys were sent that big 10 or 11-speed freewheel during mail time a while back. Maybe see if you can install that on here. I don't think you've ever done a video on changing out a freewheel. I think since some budget bikes still use freewheels alot of people would be interested on seeing how to change one out.
