Amy hiii :) Love watching these types of videos - I’m always curious to see how similar or different life is! I always get a little jealous, getting around is so much easier in America in comparison to South Africa - definitely from an ease and safety point of view :)

Agree about Dupont. Do not recommend Noma, lots of shootings in the area. Navy Yard is safe and great
there are shootings in basically every neighborhood in dc lol, theres good and bad streets everywhere!!
@@amyrauch Even DuPont? I think my next place is going to be out there.
I am from inner-city Detroit and felt NoMa was worse than my neighborhood back home. I really don't see why anyone in their right mind would choose to live there unless they did not know any better (like me). Could hear bullets multiple times a month from my apartment in a gentrified part of the neighborhood (Which often resulted in deaths). I would advise anyone to stay out of that shit part of the city.
I've also felt very unsafe in noma. of course bad things happen anywhere, but there are significantly fewer shootings and muggings in Dupont than in noma. the crime stats are all publicly available online. However dupont is usually more expensive than noma so I get that's not an option for everyone.

probably an unpopular opinion: I hated living in dc. the people I met were not nice, and were not interested in getting to know people not working in politics. this was just my personal experience, but I had a terrible two years and finally left

Washington DC is a great place to be for career minded people and not so bad for foodies either. Navy Yard is prime but Columbia Heights is a high crime area.
