Thank You! I never thought of cutting the fan shaft off the old motor. I own an press and was trying to figure out how to work it out but couldn't. I'd still be up a creek if it wasn't for your video.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! A female DIYer here and I already replaced the capacitor, but fan still wouldn't come on. Just got the fan motor today and didn't realize I would need anything else let alone a tool (puller = more $ and more time waiting for delivery!). I took my Dremel and cut the shaft like you did and even used the attachment to sand it down. I just oiled it up and going to wait a bit and try to knock it out! Hopefully comes out as fairly easily as yours did, I PRAY!!! THANKS AGAIN!!!!!
Haha this was how I did with mine about three summers ago, the good old hammering-that-shaft-down-the-pipe like you done here. My two young sons helped out too, we had a great time.. me cursing and them laughing till the pop! Good thing motor conked out so we just sawed off the shaft prior and taking care not to bend the fan blades. Reassembly was moot. I’m no hvac guy but I sure had fun with my kids, and we done a good job that time- I was the proudest dad!
Great video, wasn't sure how to cut the shaft. Killer! Same style unit, about 20 years old and the motor finally went. Lube/Heat->Breaker Arm bolt out, Sawsall -/- shaft (nothing else really fits in there with our blade pitch), Lube/Heat on vice and beat out the shaft. Did use a grinder to help trim off the burs from hammering before pressing/beating the shaft all the way out.
Never, Ever beat the shaft with a hammer or anything! Good chance you will flatten the shaft end when hitting it with the hammer and it will not pass through the blade. If you are gonna use this method put a piece of wood or something similar between the hammer and the shaft.

exactly the way i did it but i used a socket in the vice and a punch on the reverse side
First video I watch they just slide it off a newer shaft. Two hours later I am searching for this video.
Yea I figured I would show what I ran into as others will have similar issues.
You should replace that two propeller to 3 propeller, more stable, less noise, more efficient removing hot air.
What size is the fan blade?

Yea... he actually got lucky that wasn't as stuck as some of them get. When you hammer on it too hard it mushrooms and then it's on for good.
I just bought a tool for that very job
That's the easy way? Oh man. I'vep got my work cut out for me.
Good Job
Thanks man!
William Noble glad it helped.
