Yeah, even the non-canon stuff is canon in their own world! Android 21 appears in fighterz, dokkan battle and xenoverse; linking their worlds. Towa and mira are in xenoverse, dragonball online and heroes. But the best is when dbgt ends goku leaves on shenron. Where does he go? To fighterZ! It's like there are 2 dimensions.
@@minisquirtle9702 In a way they are all connected but just not in the one we have in terms of story. Now toriyama and toyotama have opened up the possibility of alternate timelines and dimensions; anything could be canon or non-canon if they wanted. Even Ultra Instinct itself has nods to stuff from non canon stuff like false super saiyan from the slug movie (super saiyan hair, but not yellow) or say 3 saiyans giving their combined power to goku to give him enough power to beat a foe? No I'm not talking about super saiyan god, i'm on about the original broly movie. Speaking of which, broly is now canon; as is the tv special "yo! Son goku and his friends return!" which has tarble who they mentioned in super. Dragonball is interesting because it can be canon and non-canon if it wanted. It's honestly pretty clever.
@@WakoDoodle Ya sure you're just not thinking too hard about this stuff? Some of this isnt even connected. Like the 3 saiyans thing in the original Broly movie. @@minisquirtle9702 A little bit too hard but that's the best part of dragonball; they often reference stuff from the past an expand on it. Like how goku absorbed a blast to become a new form to fight android 13 as a spirit saiyan... no wait... to fight jiren as as ultra instinct. Dragonball crosses over with itself more than any other anime; sadly in some areas there isn't enough information about it so we have to include non-canon stuff to fill the blanks until it's retconned, because otherwise we'd have nothing. The biggest offender is frieza's race, we know little beyond king cold, frieza and that king cold gave birth to frieza. But in the non-canon we found that they can gain forms beyond final (cooler) and even grow hair. *TLDR* : I'm not right to include non-canon stuff, but if it's all we got it's better than nothing. How knows? Maybe it will be canon, broly did; why not cooler? :D

This movie resurrected the franchise and brought it back to the main stage The fact that we were able to witness a Dragon Ball series as it aired on real time, will be something I'm eternally grateful for
Battle of Gods was the start of modern day Dragon ball. It had amazing animation, a very good soundtrack, good character designs and one of the best looking forms in Dragon ball. It is the best Dragon ball movie. This is all my opinion of course. 🔥💪
I think what makes Super Saiyan God my favorite form of Goku's is that with how it was obtained, it felt as if all of these people that Goku has met, how they impacted his life and how he impacted theirs, came to a literal full circle, with them all standing together. Like the form is one big celebration of everything that happened in Dragon Ball so far.
It was originally intended to be a pun on virus, the romanji for his name being Birusu, but due to a bit of confusion about what his name was supposed to be, we got him paired with the alcohol pun Whis. Turns out transliteration between very different languages is a bitch.
What I loved about this is how we get homage to the original series and before I watched any series was the original so it holds a special place in my heart

Fantastic review! I totally agree that when using CG it shouldn't be used as a crutch but rather a tool to help enhance a scene! Your reviews on this nail the perfect relevance of what makes Dragon Ball unique and I will always thank you for it
Nice review, although as an animation student, I must Disagree with the 2D vs 3D argument. 2D animation is an INCREDIBLY costly process, requiring dozens of man-hours and animators to create a shot. More often than not animators get paid basically minimum wage in order to cut down on production costs. There are many stories of people in Japan and Korea being paid less than minimum wage to be animators, especially in Anime. On the other hand 3D enables smaller teams to do much more in less time, while even still producing great-looking results. Even better, projects like Spiderverse, DBFZ, and Paper Plane have demonstrated the viability of 2D-style 3D, meaning that it may soon be possible to create 2D-style animation with the accessibility of 3D

I always thought Goku’s burst into SSJ in the last round of the fight would have been a fantastic way to introduce SSBlue. I still think SSG is kinda cheap, despite how cool it is, but this could’ve been a much more compelling introduction to Blue than what we got in Resurrection: F.
They should have made SSGSS the proto version of SSG. Meaning that Blue should have been made weaker than Red but far easier to obtain, thereby making blue a more optimal and cost effective transformation while keeping SSG as impressive and renowned by Beerus and whis as it is. This could have also led to them achieving mastery of SSG far later in the series and not just a transformation that is overlooked in the grand scheme of things, while SSGSS a more jack of all trades God transformation that could be utilized in scenarios like the TOP for if they don’t want to expend as much energy during combat

Super saiyan god is actually technically earned since the ritual can only be performed by 6 righteous saiyans and goku is the only reason the ritual can be performed at all since he's one of the biggest reasons vegeta turned good and had trunks and well through goku's kindness he became a father and had a son gohan(see what i did there) and also goten and pan wouldn't exist without gohan so basically goku like I already said is the only reason the ritual can happen
Yeah, this comment kind of misses the mark. Dragon Ball Super: Broly, while having comedic moments, was meant to be a rewriting of an already existing character and a dramatic representation of the rage and sorrow that plagues him throughout his life. Sure, it isn’t a masterpiece by any means, but it gave us a character that we knew and developed him into one that was interesting and beneficial for a continuation of the series.
Your statements about Goku being handed SSG instead of earning it is exactly why I loved when we first saw Vegeta take the form, because unless they had him do the ritual off screen somehow, he somehow earned something that wasn’t even supposed to have been earnable. Fantastic, and really helped to make me like Vegeta even more.
As this begins, I just wanna say... I see your Serpent Eating the Ground at the start of the video and I gotta say, I love it. Bravely Default doesn't get enough love.
Thank you so much for going out of your way to mention the part where Goku bursts through the earth. That is to the day the greatest piece of animation I have ever seen. So much hype in that moment!
It really wasn't but whatever it's your opinion just like how my opinion is that the Borly movie was over hyped and didn't live up to expections at least for me.
I get tears in my eyes every single time I watch and hear "That's my BUUULMAAAAA!!" Vegeta cares so much about her that he doesn't give a FUCK that he's fighting Beerus the God of Destruction.
I love how much this movie played up how eccentric the Z fighters and their friends are and actively focused on their interactions with Beerus. It made all of the characters feel really lifelike and well realized in such a short time.
My short take of the movie Some of the things I liked: - The Pilaf group, every aspect of their interactions was a great throwback to classic Dragonball - Vegeta's character development was a joy to see - Beerus is actually a pretty respectable and interesting character in the Dragonball universe, even if I'm not the biggest fan of Super - Videl being pregnant is just nice to see considering what we know about Pan Some of the things I didn't like as much: - The new form was unnecassary and detracted from the movie and franchise as whole imo - The things needed for the form to take felt contrived and out of touch with the series - In general, the whole story and reason for Beerus being there felt contrived as well - For me, there wasn't that feeling of tension you usually get from Dragonball. The thought of Beerus destroying the world on a whim instead of based on a reason is too absurd in proportions for me to intellectually enjoy and reason with
Why you mad about that? Its better than goku being stronger than him. Beerus is a god of destruction. It should take time for goku to be stronger than him
Videl in the manga: "Oh yeah! I'm pregnant!" Videl in the movie: "..." Dende: "Oh yeah! She's pregnant!" Videl: "Why'd you ruin the surprise Little Green!?" Dende: "Cos my name is Dende"

What is the one thing all the Saiyans in the show have struggled with? Putting their pride behind them for the greater good and accepting help. We have seen a dozen times over the decades Goku and crew grind their training and battles to their physical limits. This transformation forced their emotional limits and that was the narrative growth in the movie. I disagree that this was just “given” to Goku. It represented growth that the Saiyans still struggle with
I remember when they announce this movie, I was at high school and all of my friends, family and myself included couldn't contain our emotion to watch a new adventure of Goku reaching new heights and they delivered with this one... Also I grew up with the mexican spanish dub of Dragon Ball Z and I still watch Super with spanish voices from time to time and we called Beerus, Bills, since this movie. At first I thought this was some censorship because his name comes from beer but I don't think that's the case.
@@basil5044 well no, see, Beerus just casually going "Yeah there's like 11 other Gods of Destruction with their own Universes, man, and I'm not the strongest" was a pretty darn cool lore point. I do prefer DBS: Broly, but j0hnc00 makes a good point!
The potential of Battle of Gods was squandered but it's a better story with a power scaling and lore introduction that actually makes sense. Broly only fixed "Broly" an enormous achievement but there are annoying power scaling inconsistencies - I don't buy that green Super Saiyan = god.
@@j0hnc00 Okay yeah but the level of power in Dragon ball is driven by narration. It's been the case for years now. I'm not saying it's good, because it isn't, only that it's not likeky to change. The speed at which Broly's power increases makes no sense, but that was pretty much always the case with the character. The fight itself, luckily, was wonderful. Broly's power makes about as much sense as Kefla's who makes about as much sense as the original Broly, which makes about as much sense as, say, the amount of time Gotenks stayed fused as a full powered SSJ3 agaisnt Super Buu once outside of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, to give a random example. He lasted as long as the narrative needed him to for Gohan to tag it. Goku and Vegeta overpowering the Big Gete Star even though they got beat by a 1000+ Meta-Coolers before that, to give a movie example, also makes no sense when they, in their own words, had used everything agaisnt one of 'em. Still! I agree with you! Just sayin' that's nothing new in Dragon Ball, is all, do faulting DBS Broly for that is bound to be not as effective as it could be.
I wish they woulda handled Vegeta in the cell tournament the way they handled him in BOG when it came to his loved ones getting hurt. In BOG he rages hard enough to take a shot from Beerus and give one back before getting clapped. But when cell killed Trunks Vegeta rages and just gets immediately clapped. I wish his rage would have taken and landed a blow before failing. Throughout the series that to me is the most embarrassing thing I’ve seen out of Vegeta

"Bills Nye the Destruction Guy"-
-TNM, 2019
One small nitpick. Dragonball at no point in time, has EVER been irrelevant.
@@WakoDoodle ....i think you're looking far too deep into the noncanon material. They arent connected at all
@@minisquirtle9702
In a way they are all connected but just not in the one we have in terms of story.
It was 3 saiyans and a namekian, not because of anything special but because Goku needed their power. He also does the same thing for the Spirit Bomb and against Buu.
But uh... alright :p
it's gonna sound bad, but one of my favorite part of the movie is the end credits with the manga panels ending with a kamehameha... that part really hit me in the feels

Then no one is going to watch your 3D garbage

I always thought Goku’s burst into SSJ in the last round of the fight would have been a fantastic way to introduce SSBlue. I still think SSG is kinda cheap, despite how cool it is, but this could’ve been a much more compelling introduction to Blue than what we got in Resurrection: F.
I mean, i kinda like ssjg but i hate how they ruined it by turning it into a transformation rather than ritual.

@@RandomGuy-zl5sp he kidnapped a 5 year old to train him to take over the world with him, after he killed the kids father...that is literally a villian plan, he is just missing a pencil mustache
Tray Percy no, he took Gohan with him because two monkey men we’re gonna destroy the earth and their best fighter(Goku) is dead and piccolo realized that Gohan’s power had crazy potential so he decided to train him to fight those monkey men because he’s the second best thing next to his father.

Broly : Hold my water
Broly didn't have much funny parts
DrakeSSJ257 the “have fun freeza” scene made for it.
*"BROLY LOOK!!*
*IT'S SUCH A TRAGEDY!!"*

Watching Broly movies animations side by side to Battle of Bods(dbs)makes me appreciate the Broly Movie art even More❤
Honestly, I was worried it was going to be like the old movies and had my doubts
My short take of the movie
Some of the things I liked:
- The Pilaf group, every aspect of their interactions was a great throwback to classic Dragonball
- Vegeta's character development was a joy to see
- Beerus is actually a pretty respectable and interesting character in the Dragonball universe, even if I'm not the biggest fan of Super
- Videl being pregnant is just nice to see considering what we know about Pan
Some of the things I didn't like as much:
- The new form was unnecassary and detracted from the movie and franchise as whole imo
- The things needed for the form to take felt contrived and out of touch with the series
- In general, the whole story and reason for Beerus being there felt contrived as well
- For me, there wasn't that feeling of tension you usually get from Dragonball. The thought of Beerus destroying the world on a whim instead of based on a reason is too absurd in proportions for me to intellectually enjoy and reason with
Completely disagree with your take on ssj god.

They retconned it in the anime, to where Beerus says that himself, before Whis later points out that he lied about it when they’re leaving Earth.
Why you mad about that? Its better than goku being stronger than him. Beerus is a god of destruction. It should take time for goku to be stronger than him

You have got to be joking...
