You can tell this is one of the fashion eras that you particularly enjoy. The vibe of 60's swiniging London crossing the Atlantic. The mixture of fabrics from clear plastics to nylon, eith bold prints. A fun time indeed
Great video! I am French and started to buy Barbie dolls in the late 60s, the mod era. I have a talking Barbie and two others, Francie with blond growing hair, a blond and a red-haired Stacey, two Skippers one red-haired, and a blond one with long curly pigtails. I have all the Mod fashion in pristine condition. My sister has passed away and her dolls remind me of her. I now live in London and I keep on collecting. And Carnaby Street is my favorite place.
@@Thedollswitness Thank you for your nice comment 😊They're in a glass cabinet and I have made matching décors for them including a repro of Carnaby Street and Francie on a Mod scooter.
I agree with you that Francie is a wonderful mod doll. It's a real joy to watch your presentations because you have such a feel for the areas that you discuss.
I read in an old issue of Barbie Bazaar that in the mid 1960s there was a real dilemma with the designers at Mattel whether or not to transition Barbie into the mod era. Fashion was changing so rapidly and Barbie's image had already been established. Francie was created as a test to see how well Mod inspired designs would sell. Francie dolls actually out sold Barbie in 1966 so the final decision was made to update Barbie.
Pink Power is beautiful and Francie with that growing hair is beautiful. She reminds me of Cindy from the B-52's who wore a simular outfit. It was the time of Fellini and the exaggerated feminine beauty. I absolutely love it! You make me want to collect them all!
I loved this segment ! your choices of character & outfit are spot on . We are essentially collecting the same eras , fashions & dolls . What makes every collection unique is which doll they choose to dress in which fashion. I liked the way you had a separate Twiggy doll for each fashion . I did this in my collection too ! Thank you for being my fave TH-cam content out there ! Cheers Matt
Thank you so much! I remember how I just HAD to have every Twiggy outfit and a twiggy for each. lol One of my favorite parts of the collection. Glad you enjoyed this one!❤️❤️❤️❤️
OMG, love your collection of Mod Barbies! Thank you for showing!😍This is my favorite area too and I feel happy every time when I'm going through my own collection. All of these bright colors, simply amazing!😊
You're killing me! My favorite fashions! I can't afford any of it but I do have vintage fabrics and I can sew. I want to make my own little collection.
I love the Mod dolls & fashions. I had some of my sister's Vintage dolls & always "cast" them as the parents or older siblings in my little play stories. I played with Barbies as a kid through the 70's, so I had the Malibu line and the Quick Curls and Free Moving dolls. But, every now and then I would see a Mod doll at a friend's house (their sibs were closer in age than mine) and I was SICK with wanting those gorgeous dolls & fashions. They were wild & exotic to me then. Now, I just treasure them alongside the Vintage dolls I collect. I NEED a TNT or Talking Christie doll. I have a Malibu Christie and a Julia (love them both) and recently got a (mute) Talking Brad in AMAZING condition, but I need the earlier Christie. I'm going to an exciting Barbie event in a few weeks and am saving up my pennies, hoping I'll find her there. This will be a video to rewatch several times so I can take it all in! Thank you!
Great presentation! The MOD dolls were really "the bomb"! Super chic cool, vibrant and fun!! Certainly a style of its own! I did manage to get a remake of Julia boxed & the Becky doll, i.e. Casey doll with a sandy Marlo flip with brown eyes! Nice! Still looking casually for a long haired Stacy, very hard to find!! Thanks, you're always fun.🎉😊
I love your collection, how much you want for one of your live action christie barbie ahhh you have so many I've just ever wanted one but can't come across one yet.
Thanks Man, Your channel is super dope🔥also along with Beauty inside a box channel (I believe it’s called), have true educated me on all things Barbie, and it’s very much appreciated. Coming from someone who knows nothing about Barbie and was handed a collection. Thanks
In love with all the mod fashions!! Not into smaller body types... a 'superstar era body' fan with bigger boobs. I did have to get one Francie. Super cute face/head. Twiggy & Casey's face freaks me out, lol, forgive me. Christie! Now we're back on the same page. Wish I could afford ALL the Christie dolls! Epic!! Found the blonde repro Stacy new in box & had to have her. She's fab.
I love those twiggy dolls! Are you also into fashion history? You have a lot of good tidbits of the historical moments/trends that influenced barbie fashion
Your collection is amazing im so possed i sold some of my mod dolls and 70s girls like an idiot for TOO CHEAP i had a Christie she had a huge bolt in her leg though face sculpt was great though. Crap i had alot 😢😢
I have more mod Barbies than the orginal ones. I got all her mod friends except Christie. My favorite is this Margo Flip with brown hair. She is the one that's in the best condition and the one that cost me the least. Do you have Skipper in the sausage curls i think she's my favorite Skipper. Mod Skipper just looks better in this era.
Is there a book you can recommend that has the barbie n friends n family types with years and connection to eachother. When each one was introduced and so on. Please please
I haven’t really seen much evidence that they do! I HAVE noticed that repros can become slightly more pricey than originals from time to time, but it’s pretty rare.
I like the Mod Era much more than the Vintage Era. Barbie got much prettier imo and the outfits more creative and exciting. The Vintage Era is way too proper and Stepford Wife-ish for me.
I started collecting Barbie with early 60s pieces because I fell in love with the quality and sophisticated fashion. Then I got into mod and then later eras from there.
My sister always preferred Francie over Barbie. As kids, we both thought the figure of Barbie was ridiculous, and Francie had a more natural/normal look. My only issue with her (as a child) was that she looked weak and sickly lol. Sleepy doe eyes, pale skin, flushed cheeks, petite stature - all said longterm illness to me - so even though I wanted a less ridiculous/more realistic figure, I wasn't happy until I got a Dusty :D I really want to add a Francie to my collection, more because of my sister than any particular affinity for her, although as an adult, I find her very sweet and charming. I was first going to say, "They should bring Francie back!" then I realized they sort of have with all the petite Barbies. Side note: we had that green/blue/yellow striped dress and the pretty pink. Those Skippers are beautiful! I definitely want one :) Walking Jamie is so pretty - she's got the sweetness of Francie but looks healthy lol. Love your passion - thanks for sharing! I especially love your videos where you show/compare a large number of dolls. Always so informative! Have you thought about doing a video about all the gimmick dolls? Like, talking, busy hands, dancing, winking, etc? It would be interesting to see all the different innovations. I'd even enjoy a study of the different body types over the decades and how they changed.
Thanks so much! I think Mattel produced the smaller body type due to Twiggy and her petite frame taking the world by storm. I do love the smaller dolls from the era. So cute. And good idea about the gimmicky dolls! Love how they were always looking to innovate and add some new appeal. Happy to hear you’re enjoying the vids!❤️❤️❤️❤️
The Doll's Witness + Mod = TH-cam gold!
haha thank you!❤️❤️

You’re right! Love this era for fashion and for Barbie. Each outfit is better than the last 🔥❤️❤️

Francie is my favorite! I love the Mods. Francie is the only Barbie I had as a child.
Lucky kid! Francie is just too adorable ❤️❤️

Oh awesome! 66 was a great year for Barbie but I always wondered why she took that time to make the shift! Thanks!!

Thanks, right? Such a great outfit. It didn’t come with the flower crown but I think it’s a nice touch lol❤️
Groovy Baby!!💖❤️🔥💖❤️🔥💖❤️🔥💖❤️🔥💖the blonde twist and turn its Amazing!
Thank you!❤️❤️
I didn't have any of the mod Barbies, but my friends did, who'd probably inherited them from their older sisters. I still love them.
Can never get enough of them! 🔥❤️
Mod fashion was definitely a 60s thing. And yep, early to mid 70s was pretty granola girl. Love your bowling shirts by the way!
Haha thank you! 60s fashion was definitely amazing 🔥❤️

The first Barbie I had as a child was the Marlo flip mod Barbie. When I think of Barbie I always think of the mod era Barbie dolls. ❤️
She’s a beauty!❤️
During all this video in my mind I was listening the Austin Powers theme song... oh behave... lovely dolls and fashion nyo!😻👍🏼💖
