    We have 5 acres here in Norther California that we seasonally maintain for fire safety. We have used regular string trimmers/weed eaters for years and became frustrated with them tangling and bogging down. We would love a tractor and a brush hog...but thats a little heavy on the wallet.
    Fortunately we discovered the budget friendly Cub Cadet walk behind string trimmer and it has changed our chores! It makes quick work of even the tallest weeds and can handle even small branches and stands of brush and vines. It's easy to maintain, it's easy to use, and runs like a champ under the toughest circumstances. This is a video review of The Cub Cadet ST 100 a full year after we first bought it and, spoiler alert, we really really like it!

    I've had one of these for almost 2 years and it has been the best. When I pull it out for the first mowing session of the year, it takes two pulls to get it started. After that, it starts on the first pull. It's a beast when it comes to cutting grass and tall, thick weeds. I like the offset of the cutter head so you can get right up next to a fence or wall. The thick strings last all afternoon or until you try to tackle weeds with stalks bigger than your finger.

    I considered buying a Cub Cadet walk behind string trimmer, but decided to buy a Husqvarna trimmer instead.
    Although the Husqvarna trimmer mows tall grass & weeds well, it has a few minor design issues that I think Husqvarna should have been improved. The main issue is that the string line spindle housing clogs with grass, slowing the spindle rotation & reducing grass cutting effectiveness, when mowing at the lowest string line setting adjustment on the spindle.
    I have wondered if the Cub Cadet might have been a somewhat better choice, & I think both the Husqvarna & the Cub Cadet were priced similarly.
    Thanks for the review!

      Hello, I stumbled upon your video regarding the Cub Cadet ST-100; Or As I Call It, WeedEater On Wheels {WOW}. My unit was purchased about 3 years ago from a Tractor Supply location here in Central Ky. I also purchased the spool of Shakespeare Yellow .155 string in which I cut to a 18,7/8 inch length. Basically, I copied off of the OEM orange strings for making my strings. Do not go any longer than the OEM strings or it will cause damage to the deflector shield. This string on a spool cuts just as good or better than the OEM orange strings that were provided with your unit when you unboxed it. Tractor Supply also keeps the replacement air filter in stock as well as the 10W30 Cub Cadet brand motor oil. Good Luck with your trimmer and Best Regards From Versailles, Ky.

      @@4KidsandaFarm no problem.
      for future reference if the thing ever starts having probs starting it is probably the auto choke system on there. it is rather over complicated little system for auto choke, auto throttle.
      there is a spring that sits in little box next to muffler. when cold it is choked. after start muffler heats up the spring and open the choke. the spring goes out after awhile.

    • @fredgarvin4482
      @fredgarvin4482 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the spring is connected to a long rod that goes across the motor to the carb. anyways just put that in back of mind if it ever gives you probs check that first.

    Wow 5 acres. I'm on a 1.3 acre property and it used to be a big hassle because for a few years all we had was just a weed eater and I would do the entire acre with just that 🥵🤕😵. After alot of frustration, exhaustion, and back ache, we finally got a riding mower in March 2020. I was looking to get one of these for the ravine we have on the property that is too small, inclined, and rock and tree lined for the riding mower. It is also too big for a weed eater. So I was thinking about getting either this or traditional old push mower. I have never owned or operated one of these.

    Been using one for years. Changing strings is straight forward. Easy? Takes about 10 mins. Problem is, trying to get them to stay in place and also not to break. Sometimes the strings break almost immediately. Hardly ever last over an hour. Depends on what you are coming in contact with. Experiment with different ways to secure the strings. You'll find something that works for you. For me, I use a smaller diameter string to secure the larger one. Still have to change them at least once every time I mow.
