I have a GC1715 , it's a tank. I had a GC2600 and traded it in with 3500 hours on it ( 10 years) with no repairs just fluid changes and a set of tires. Now my loader has a pinned bucket, wish they had the skid steer bucket option 2 years ago. About 3 min for me to hook up my deck. Now I will say, it will be paid off in Jan. there is a 2025R in the future for our small farm.
Honestly I agree with a lot of the comments and how I've always felt. JD has definitely been the leader in ergonomics in a sub compact tractor. The ability to take a backhoe on and off to use your 3 point hitch, easiest drive over deck to use, easiest loader to take on and off, honestly not awful pricing for what youre getting and at least here, an amazing knowledgeable dealer who work with you and help you find the right product. And help you understand your new machine. We love our JD 1025R. Yet the kubota dealer was closer to us. Great video though Tim. Very informative
I looked at Kubota, Cub, Deere, Yanmar, Kioti, Bobcat, RK, Mahindra... all of the makes I could. I am smack dab in the middle of JD and Kubota country here. I settled on a 2018 GC1720, anyway. I am happy, so far. Its plenty strong and I really like the setup. My only wish is that the seat gets an improvement. Its a little tricky to flip up and around. I have a hand injury and it makes the task a little difficult. I found that wearing the seat belt really improves the ride-ability and safety of operating the tractor-as it should. I wish LS had better presence and dealer support near me (I'm more that 80 miles from an LS dealership). That was the only one I hadn't had the chance to get a look at in person-but everything I've seen tells me they are fantastic machines. I think you did great here, Tim. Any salesperson is going to have to roll with the punches when showing a product, and I'm sure that opinions on this seat is one that he has to answer to quite often. Its not his fault and the seat doesn't overshadow the rest of the machine. It didn't for me. I don't think you were disrespectful or rough with him at all. He seemed like a nice person. I am very happy you showcased this machine as I didn't even know there have been any updates since last generation. Be careful out there, and take care!

After researching nearly everything in this class, JD, Kubota, Kioti, Mahindra, Yanmar, New Holland, etc., this is the tractor we decided to go with. We bought a new GC1725MB w/ 60” deck yesterday, and it’ll be here early next week. It was one of the best deals around, and the financing rates were icing on the cake. Tim I am confused on your warning not to pull with a backhoe. How can pulling Christy’s small car out of a snow drift cause more damage than digging a trench, pulling on a stump or rock? Seems to me that the design of the backhoe rams are designed for pulling.
James Morse the difference is if you are pulling WITH the cylinders,?or ON the cylinders. Get it? You shouldn’t hook something to the backhoe and then drive off pulling on the hoe. Pulling with the hoe is obviously fine, pulling on the hoe is not. Not like it will be an issue for you anyway, so don’t worry about it.
Jax Turner thanks. I thought as long as the hydraulics were on i.e. engine rpm up, that the seals in the cylinders would handle it. Sorta like holding something up with the boom.
@@jamesmorse126 When you use the hydraulics, i.e. operate the spool valves it has a relief valve when there is something to heavy it will not damage the pump or the cylinders. When the valves aren't being operated it the relief valve isn't in the circuit and the seals in the cylinders and the hoses are were a too big pressure will cause damage. It is probably hard to guestimate how high the pressure will go if one hooks something to the bucket, then try to yank something out of the ditch.
that massy square bailer that is briefly shown is an absolute animal... its made by hesston and really works very very well... we have had bailers on the farm all my life and no matter the model they always have problems that they shouldn't have... we now have that bailer made by hesston but with the case brand name on it but the massy hesston and case are all the same and ours doesn't skip a bale...
The yanmar engines Deere uses have been used on Generators in the coast guard for years with thousands of hours run time, some in sub zero weather, with very minimal down time. This is one thing that keeps me leaning Green :)
My first tractor/lawn mower was a Massey and it was built like a tank, but then I found the hydro John Deere's and it's been nothing but Deere's since then. Would loved to see a head to head comparison between comparable Massey and Deere sub compacts in a future video.
I still have an old Massey lawn tractor. I bought it used back in 84. I think it is a little over 50 years old. Your right it's built like a tank. For a lawnmower it was horrible but for plowing snow and dragging firewood out of the woods it is still my favorite thing to use. I did buy a 1025r last fall. Love it too but it will not replace my MF just an addition to the lineup!
I just took delivery of mine yesterday. When the dealer dropped it off they actually suggested that I get the hooks from boltonhooks. Although, he did say instead of bolting them on a lot of his customers weld them on. Wanted to know your thoughts before I have that done.
Just fyi. Mine are welded but I wish I could remove them when pushing brush. Sometimes I can't un-snag limbs by moving the bucket and have to get off the tractor. I like Boltonhooks and the people.
I have a 2017 1710 model I did not like the way the new seat seamed to be either and if it's not comfortable it's going to be hard to sell. I like the feel of my seat and the tractor in general I have not had any problems with it
I love the seat on my GC1720. It is very comfortable in the normal position. Turned around in the backhoe position it is awkward to reach the controls for me though. I am short and reaching the controls isn’t as easy as it would be if the seat was adjustable forward and down. Taking the backhoe off is very easy. Folding the 3 point up to reattach the backhoe is easy as well. The bolt on hooks (non combo) are easy to attach on the loader as well as you explained. Overall I have been extremely happy with the Massey tractor.
I got my 1705 brand new full warranty, loader, and drive over 60” deck for about 12,500 out the door. We have 8 John Deere’s on the farm so I’m a green man myself but dang, there was no way I’d be able to get a Johnny for that price.
I have a gc1720, wish i woulda waited a lil bit b4 buying for the newer models but i like what i have. i like a lot betr than the bx2380 i had b4 the massey, great machines!!!
I don’t personally own a 1 series Deere. I own a 4 series Deere. But my neighbor owns a 1023e and I use it quite a bit when I need something smaller and they use mine when they need something bigger. Anyways from the looks of this vs even the economy Deere the Deere seems to be better in every way. And the Deere is the economy model and the Massey is supposed to be the premium model. Love the videos Tim. If I were to purchase a small sub compact I would defiantly be going with the 1025r. Nothing comes close to it for me.
Massey looks to use the old Kubota Mid Mount Deck hookups and close to the same for loader mount too otherwise not a bad tractor i would say just looks like they are a step behind Kubota and Deere yet
He's wrong about the deck wheels, the manual states to raise them before driving over. Also, the newer models use the FL 1805 loader and the SSQA is standard.
I wish the massey dealer near me was worthy of business. 4 guys couldn't have been bothered by a guy wanting to look at some small tractors. That thing looks nice though
Hey there Tim!!! I have to say up front, I'm a Massey Ferguson guy. But this was not a good showing of the Massey product. The rep seemed to be pretty defensive and unsure. On the other hand you and Ken did a great job quizzing him and 'drawing' the info out of him. Thanks for posting and I still like Massey Ferguson!!! LOL
I like it... Its like how the garden tractors used to be built, but a little bigger. I see now Iseki makes them and the Massey brand is put on it, Iseki is a Japanese tractor company thats been around since basically ww1.
I was happy with him. He kinew his stuff. Perhaps the video doesn't show him as favorable as we saw him. If so, that is our fault. I would buy from him in a heartbeat.
I dont think it's the guy really the problem to me it the tractor I mean its probably a good tractor but if you are going to compare it to a john deere r series I already seen where john deere is alot more better now on the price I dont know I am sure deere is a little more expensive but you get what you pay for
Josh Riddle I’ll agree with that. He had to negate a negative response or try to answer all questions that enviably put the MF tractor behind the competition. They indirectly pointed out several flaws in this tractor except the back-hole attachment, which seems to be the only thing this red brick has going for it.
The backhoe control lever has a real bad problem with breaking it's not the lever itself it the part it's connected to it's made of cheap aluminum instead of steel mine has broken several times
With the electronic 3point I'm a bit confused is the arms still able to float and do a gradual grade or is it going to just drop and raise the seat I thought was a spring loaded seat to make it comfortable for the operator now its looking like it's not as nice a option as the other models on the past
I am sure the arms will still float as with most all other 3PH's. It's still a hydraulic cylinder doing the work, it's just electrically controlled. We just thought the springs were to stiff that's all. I'm sure it's an easy fix for them.
@@TractorTimewithTim A few new tractor, at the show even, are up well in the 30's HP and NO DPF . How, you ask? Its because when you have a small displacement, and rev it up to get your HP, you can have low PPM of Carbon/Nitrogen oxides with the ULSD. The loss comes in Torque. This is why JD can STILL put the 25 hp engine from your 1025R into the new heavy 3025D tractor and make it work.. Torque!
"DEF" is Diesel Exhaust fluid" is basically "Piss" and water, which reduces Oxides of Nitrogen in Higher HP Diesels. Its mostly for tier 4 above 50 HP. The compact tractors under that that have one, use a DPF ( Diesel Particulate dry Filter).
Love watch your videos Tim. I just wanted to say I just bought a 04 Massey Ferguson 1440V with a loader attachment. I picked this up for $2750 not running. My goal is to flip this tractor. You would be wrong I have both A Massey GC2610 and a Kubota BX1500. So far the Massey has been a better machine. My Kubota has been good but my Massey has NEVER had to be split in 2 like my Kubota over a $4.00 part!
No different for JD, Kubota, New Holland, LS, Massy, whatever color....every OEM has their own numbering which can get very confusing when comparing different models.
Massey (iseki) is a very good tractor. Between Deere and kubota its the best value for your dollar. All these guys seem to care about was the springs on the seat.
Beer holder on the wrong side and to far back, seat looks very poor. 4x4 lever down under your leg making it hard to use.joystick lock lever is in a place where it will catch on pant leg. On the bright side, hydrostatic and engine made in Japan witch is a plus.
Hmmmm.....I'm glad this wasn't out a couple of months ago! I might not have went with the 1025r! I don't like the legs on the loader though! But I like that the mower deck floats! I think it would give a better cut and think they are the only ones that have it in the subcompact! Not sure I like that seat though, had me sold till I seen Tim sit on it. Good to see competition, keep JD and Kubota moving forward as well! I wish Kubota and JD would have the ability to leave the 3-point hitch on!

Not like it will be an issue for you anyway, so don’t worry about it.
Jax Turner thanks. I thought as long as the hydraulics were on i.e. engine rpm up, that the seals in the cylinders would handle it. Sorta like holding something up with the boom.
@@jamesmorse126 you are correct
I’ll stick with my recommendation of hooking to the frame. I like a good solid low hookup point.
Something that I didn't see in the comments is that the engine is a cast engine, not aluminum. For this reason alone I bought a Massey over a Deere.
The yanmar engines Deere uses have been used on Generators in the coast guard for years with thousands of hours run time, some in sub zero weather, with very minimal down time. This is one thing that keeps me leaning Green :)
@@Formulabruce Yanmar is a very big brand name in boat engines as well, especially the smaller sailboats. Very reliable.
Bolt on works beautifully, and you can DIY...so save a few bucks.
I have a 1736 and love it. My seat has much more adjustment
Oh sweet Jesus thank you for a proper massey ferg tractor review!!!
Just bought mine today. Haven’t been delivered yet
Congratulations!
I got my 1705 brand new full warranty, loader, and drive over 60” deck for about 12,500 out the door. We have 8 John Deere’s on the farm so I’m a green man myself but dang, there was no way I’d be able to get a Johnny for that price.
Why have a different model with only a 2 HP difference ?
No different than JD or Kubota
How much is a 3rd function on a new GC1725M?
But can you buy the b without the backhoe so if you decide down the road you can add one without having to buy a new tractor
Hey looking to purchase a new tractor 25 hp with a loader and a rototiller. Shopping for best deal any recomendations?
Not looking for belly mower
First comment.. lol.. 1025r owner😉 love your channel!
thats a massey ferguson gc 1725m 25hp perkins diesel engine
@@michaelmactavish1728 the JD 25 hp is over 100 Cubic inches too. This one at 65 cuin.
Not a Perkins....Iseki of Japan
But that seat though. lmao that guy had me cracking up.
It was even funnier OFF camera. Maybe someday we can tell the story :-)
@@TractorTimewithTim I could imagine. Man I replayed this so much times I couldn't stop laughing. This made my day.
Now that's a real machine
I have a gc1720, wish i woulda waited a lil bit b4 buying for the newer models but i like what i have. i like a lot betr than the bx2380 i had b4 the massey, great machines!!!
Nice review, Tim. How would you compare the operation and feel of Massey's backhoe against Deere's new 260B backhoe?
Thanks Tim.
Thanks for the video review. Very nice tractor, but I'm sticking with my 1025R.
Love the Massey Tractors I have two of them Brand New the 42 and 50 Do agree with David Harris ......But Great product
Thanks Tim. I like seeing other tractors and backhow
Thank you for the information.
I just bought the gc 1723e. Has anyone changed or modified the seat springs. I'm thinking about trying some rubber hose in them.
Massey looks to use the old Kubota Mid Mount Deck hookups and close to the same for loader mount too otherwise not a bad tractor i would say just looks like they are a step behind Kubota and Deere yet
Esse ano foi lançado no Brasil esse modelo de conjunto frontal 🇧🇷
He's wrong about the deck wheels, the manual states to raise them before driving over. Also, the newer models use the FL 1805 loader and the SSQA is standard.
Tim Christi Ken you two should be selling asking the wright questions
God Bless All
PaK
I wish the massey dealer near me was worthy of business. 4 guys couldn't have been bothered by a guy wanting to look at some small tractors. That thing looks nice though
I think Massy spent more money on their show display than design and sensibility on most their tractors.
LOL
I like the Massey tractor. They just need to spend more time designing a comfortable suspension system.
Tractor Time with Tim I have a MF 4709 and it is excellent. Much better designed than these smaller models. That seat looked hideous. lol
I like it... Its like how the garden tractors used to be built, but a little bigger. I see now Iseki makes them and the Massey brand is put on it, Iseki is a Japanese tractor company thats been around since basically ww1.
They should have sent someone else to this tractor show. This guy doesnt sound too sure of anything.
I was happy with him. He kinew his stuff. Perhaps the video doesn't show him as favorable as we saw him. If so, that is our fault. I would buy from him in a heartbeat.
Tractor Time with Tim I guess he was camera shy but I agree with Chris Charon
Wow.... yeah I'll keep my deere 1025r!!
I found it odd they were using the 1725M not the MB, yet it had a backhoe on it?
It was probably an MB. Same thing.
Tractor Time with Tim Fender didn’t say mb on it, seems confusing
Why are the hp between models so close? Does the 23 not require def?
all manufacturers do their sub-compacts this way. a 23 and a 24.5 (above 25 requires dpf)
DEF....DPF....whatever. Lets just say no "Emissions Controls" below 25 HP rather than split hairs about which system is actually used.
Bummer I thought the tractor show was next month, dang.
Love watch your videos Tim. I just wanted to say I just bought a 04 Massey Ferguson 1440V with a loader attachment. I picked this up for $2750 not running. My goal is to flip this tractor. This will be my first time flipping a tractor. Would you have any advice for me so I can do this right? Also what I should do for what people are looking for in a tractor like this? I would appreciate all your helpful information.
Hopefully in a couple days I'll be taking delivery of my new 1723 with 60" deck, loader & a custom Humboldt pto driven bagger/vacuum!
You might check out the terra king tkv20 material collection system. Works very nice.
Is there a website or just google it? Looking at the bolt on hooks you showed from the tractor show as well.
@@TractorTimewithTim justcalled, only have units for green or orange sub compacts. I watched your video, nice looking unit. Guess Humboldt is the route I'll be taking. 😕 Would've loved to see a comparison........hint.......hint
Regardless of whom you decide to go with for all the toys it’s better to have than not need it later
Great tractor, its a pity that i dont have this tractor brand
What about a front mounted snow blower??????????????
really like those outrigger pads...
Yes. Nice design!
Yea they looked like a great idea.
Can the backhoe be detached ?
Yes
Why do companies still use fold down parking stands for loaders. So annoying
Hey Tim, if your cfo gave you permission, what other attachments would you get for Johnny 2.0? Nice video. Hope you haven't been rained out lately. 😎😎😎🤔🤔🤔
@TractorTimewithTim , I am looking at buying the MF 1735M in Ontario Canada. Is it also manufactured by Iseki in Japan? Also comparing/considering the Kioti CK3510SE H. Buying the backhoe as well. Any thoughts. I am enjoying your videos.
Looks like they need to improve the seat support springs. I so much look forward to your videos. Nice looking SC Tractor, but it's no Johnny 1025R for sure.
What hakes the 25M 2 HP stronger than the 23E?? They run the engine 200 RPM faster....................
thanks
I looked at the Massey tractors. They are at a good price range, but I think the quality is less than Deere or Kubota. IOW, you get what you pay for.
You would be wrong I have both A Massey GC2610 and a Kubota BX1500. So far the Massey has been a better machine. My Kubota has been good but my Massey has NEVER had to be split in 2 like my Kubota over a $4.00 part!
The Massey is nice but all the numbers are confusing
No different for JD, Kubota, New Holland, LS, Massy, whatever color....every OEM has their own numbering which can get very confusing when comparing different models.
Massey (iseki) is a very good tractor. Between Deere and kubota its the best value for your dollar. All these guys seem to care about was the springs on the seat.
Not true. We spent lots more time on the other features. I am not anti-Massey. Would be happy to drive one.
I stand corrected. You do seem to really like some aspects of the Massey such as the backhoe. Thanks for the videos as i enjoy watching them.
Great video
Thanks for coming! Really enjoyed meeting you!
Great video!
Gosh , I felt kinda sorry for the salesman con Concerning the seat! He could have brought a cushion with him that day!lol
