That would depend on the individual and how tight their shoulders are. For the most part the placement of your arms when you land isn't the most important thing during the break fall, rather the tucking of the chin and impact distribution when slapping the arms. I would say that if you find pain when doing it at 90 degrees, stop doing it in that range. Instead, substitute for the angle that you find suitable.
