How to rebuild a Harley petcock off a 1978 Shovelhead FXS Lowrider, Part 2

  • Instead of buying a NEW petcock for the Shovelhead, I thought I'd give it a good cleaning & rebuild. Hope this helps out anyone who has ever thought about doing this but was skeptical about doing so!

    Nice demonstration of unplugging the stopped up tube. I’m trying to find a rebuild kit now.

    I used 100% acetone from the Dollar Store and it dissolved the varnish and old gas build-up in the tank and the petcock filter almost immediately with no scrubbing necessary. 91% Isopropyl alcohol works almost as good.
