    I do electrical right now but I'm in love with the ocean and building ships and becoming apart of a ship crew sounds like a dream to me. I'll look into this.

    How is it an apprenticeship but you have to pay? That’s crazy to me

      MITAGS offered full scholarship apprenticeships in 2023 for Washington State Ferries. Additional MITAGS Maritime Apprenticeship Programs (MAP) are approved by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and honor the Post 9/11 GI Bill for eligible veterans and their dependents. what’s the difference between siu and mitags apprenticeship programs?

      in my understanding SIU takes the long route to become an officer but this is 2.5 years path to third mate but we know a ton of information about SIU but I have yet to see anyone who went through MITAGS online talking about their experiences which really frustrating. I am in a position to big a path but it feels like half of the information to take a decision is missing.

      Hello, Thank you for your question.
      MITAGS is a training center for the International Organization of Masters, Mates & Pilots union and the broader maritime community. MITAGS offers entry-level courses, however focuses on officer-level training. The MITAGS Maritime Apprenticeship Program (MAP) prepares for mate positions. Apprentices usually complete the program in approximately 2 years.
      Seafarers International Union (SIU) provides officer-level courses, however focuses on entry-level maritime training for positions such as Ordinary Seaman (O.S.), Able Bodied Seaman (A.B.), Wiper, Oiler, Qualified Member of the Engine Department (QMED), and Steward. SIU members can sail in deck, engine, and steward departments. The SIU apprenticeship is usually completed in 15 months.

    Do your instructors actually have real world experience? I mean I wouldnt want to learn how to operate a ship from someone who has not had years of experience themselves and not just in a simulator.

      Thank you for you question. MITAGS instructors are seasoned subject matter experts who, on average, have worked in the Maritime Industry for decades.

    Does this apply to maritime engineering, or only deck officers?

    And the big question for myself is: what the age limit?

    • @MITAGS
      @MITAGS  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is no age limit. However, apprentices must meet the required medical and physical standards in order to qualify for a U.S. Coast Guard-issued Merchant Mariner Medical Certificate.

    Can you do this if you are an EU citizen?

    • @MITAGS
      @MITAGS  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your question! Our Maritime Apprenticeship Program does require U.S. Citizenship, as citizenship is a requirement of the U.S. Coast Guard to issue the license at completion of the program.
