I live in Regensburg🥰 You did a great job capturing this gem! Little side fact @6:36 This is our old Rathaus / town hall. But it has retired from its role as a town hall; now the building serves as a registry office where couples exchange their vows in civil ceremonies.
As I plan to show Regensburg, Walhalla and Weltenburg to my english relatives, whom I have at home near nuremberg now, I had to come back to your videos to get some inspirations. Thank you for making them! Very appreciated!
This vid of my home town is just amazing. Thanks for presenting the town as you did because I think you managed to capture the studenty, buzzy vib as well as its historic importance. If you ever go to Regensburg again, let me know and I can give you some tips. Especially for graveyard-lovers like yourselves there is the Jewish graveyard at the western end of Stadtpark and the Central Protestant Graveyard south of the station that are quite interesting. Thaks again for such a great video
Absolutely love your content! My husband just received orders to move to Vilseck next feb and we are so excited as a family! Watching from Oahu currently!
I just returned from a 5 week long trip to Europe --3 weeks with my daughter, and 2 weeks "solo." We had Regensburg on the agenda, but had to skip it due to other plans previously made. We traveled by train most of the trip, but flew to Dubrovnik and back from Wien. Train to Budapest, and back to Salzburg for 2 nights in Mozart's birthplace. But I started solo from Munich, and after several rainy days I headed to Nurnberg for 2 nights, and then revisited Bamberg after my original 2017 visit before the Pandemic was even a bad dream. I did a lot of beer tasting along the way, and came to the conclusion that Muechner Augustinerbraeu was my #1.I had to visit Wuerzburg with my daughter, as it's one of my all time favorite German cities for sights worth seeing and food worth eating. Did a lot more that it's not possible to share here!
@@NearFromHome I can recommend a ride from Donaueschingen to Passau which I did a couple of years ago. I went with Radweg-Reisen who are based in Konstanz. This year’s ride (also with them) was from Würzburg to Passau via Marktheidenfeld, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Kelheim, Regensburg and Deggendorf. It took in the Main, Tauber, Altmuhl and Donau cycle routes. I then went to Lindau for a few days. Passau is awesome and Lindau is pretty special. Am back there then Heidelberg in a couple of weeks. Also your video on the place has inspired me to seek out Bamberg, though I’ll give the Rauchbier a body swerve as it’s not to my taste 😀
Just found your channel and im loving it! I am planning to go on a 2 week vacation to Netherlands, and Germany next year, and you guys are helping me plan my trip with these videos lol. Id love to go during Oktoberfest but want to avoid Munich also, so im looking at some of the smaller festivals outside of Munich which you guys are providing the best info! Thanks for the great videos!
If you want to avoid Munich, then you should definitely try Gäubodenfest in Straubing. It‘s the second biggest Volksfest After Oktoberfest in Bavaria, it’s way more authentic, you see only locals there and you get beer much more cheaper than in Munich
Yeah as someone who lived in Straubing and now in Regensburg I can confirm that Gäubodenfest in Straubing is much better Volksfest than Octoberfest in Munich. It has much more local, Bavarian feeling as it should be.
Love your videos and so happy you both went to Regensburg. We are travelling there in a couple of months and have been a number of times before. Love that you explored the area across the bridge. Hope you go back. I think you only scratched the surface of what Regensburg has to offer. Love love your videos. Keep making them. 🙏
Regensburg looks incredible! It definitely just got added to our list of places to visit in Germany. It's giving us Bamberg vibes too with the river and historic center. Another awesome video!
Hello you 4 (both channels), the south of Germany has so much Roman, Renaissance and French influences! You can also notice it in the wine (which I missed in the video 😢). I hope you get a taste for it. Maybe you can make it to the Mediterranean (ok. not all year round) in Germany, to Lake Constance and to the German Wine Route. For beer junkies on Lake Constance, in Tettnang, the world's best hops are grown and exported to the world.
@@arnodobler1096 Yes, we have been meaning to the German wine region. We went to Heidelberg in October, and scratched the surface of German wine! It's just a little more difficult to get out there, because of the distance. A lot more money and planning goes into a weekend trip than a daytrip, unfortunately. :O
@@NearFromHomeThe best time to visit is probably during Gäubodenfest, the second biggest Volksfest in Bavaria After the Oktoberfest… But it‘s not in October or September, it’s in August
Thanks for your video!! A German band we saw at Frühlingsfest last year also plays in Regensburg for Dult! Regensburg for Dult may be our winner for a side trip from Munich the next time we are there. 🤔
I always wonder at how many of the festivals these bands perform at. We have been to the Dult in the spring and fall in Munich, but never the Regensburg Dult. We will have to check it out!
Absolutely every building you have shown has some history to be told about it. If I had made the video it would propably have lasted hours. Thank you for presenting my hometown with so much love. If someone here decides to visit Regensburg I recommend the historic tours around the old town, you will learn so much about the medieval Regensburg. btw. Regensburg was not founded by the romans, though the first written records are by them. Before the romans came, it was called "Ratisbona", meaning castle of the rhaetians (a celtic tribe)
Wife and I were just there a few weeks ago. We really enjoyed our two night stay in Regensburg. I’d also suggest dining at Spitalgarten on the other side of the bridge you were on. Spitalgarten has been there for hundreds of years as well. Funny thing about Wurstküche is we saw mixed reviews of the sausage but honestly I thought it was some of the best bites of food we had our entire trip across Germany and Austria :-)
@NearFromHome Why should I ever bothered practicing my poor English on you while your German has gotten so immensely good? Die nächste Maß im Taxisgarten geht definitiv auf mich! ❤❤
Oh, please do release the Italian food video! Would love to see real Italian foods (only get Americanized version here!). Thanks again for a great tour of a new Bavarian city (even if it’s “Italy of the North”!). And, of course do the video on other cities!! Would absolutely watch them, as we enjoy each of them! Keep them coming. Rob
Release the food footage! But honestly, thanks to your channel I’m planning a mini Xmas getaway to include Nuremberg, Rothenburg, Bamburg and now Regensburg! My only question is (apart from the Xmas markets) do you think it loses its charm during short/dark winter nights? I can see how magical they all look in sunnier seasons but have concerns about winter? Any thoughts are welcome! Cheers!
Thanks so much! Honestly, a little, but I think the Christmas markets make up for it. Plus, by December, we are not quite in full terrible German weather mode yet. I definitely wouldn't recommend visiting January-April if you are worried about dreary weather.
Guys, would you stay in Regensburg over Nurnburg? We are going in December for the Christmas markets and you have scared us with how busy the Nurnburg market is. We will be in Bavaria at leas t7 days.
That is a difficult question! I don't know what it would be like to stay in the city while the markets are on. It is possible restaurants will be crowded and booked out. I think as long as you visit the Nuremberg market during the week, the market itself won't be too crowded.
my REGENSBURG my beloved hometown you will always be the love of my life, but to my husband a young California boy with a short life it was haven to get married at the ALTE RATHAUS and the ALTEN KAPELLE. to bad you did not show this marvel of the BAROQUE style. but to me and my family it will be always unforgettable !
Yeah, it’s kind of a sad truth of the channel. Releasing content that is a bit different can really hurt us as a small channel. A lesson we learned the hard way when releasing the Turkey series. Those videos absolutely wrecked the channel and it tools months to recover. This is why following series like in Italy and what not have been broken up in between more mainline German content. It’s a worse viewing experience, I think, but it’s the only to protect the channels growth.
Das ist Wunderschön stadt 😅 Have you visited Copenhagen or any Nordic country? This video reminds me the bratwurstherzl restaurant in Munich an amazing place
Another absolutely fantastic video, I love all your videos including the ones in Italy, while in Regensburg it is a pity you didn't have time to visit Walhalla, the imposing neo-classical edifice, 1830-1842, with a marble hall housing plaques & busts of illustrious Germans towering above der Donau. Next Time? GREAT WORK!!! 💯👍 Have you thought on cycling from Regensburg to Passau along the Donau? (about 7 hours-135km).
Thanks so much! We keep missing Walhalla. Next time! We really want to do a river cycling trip. We've been talking about it for like a year. We will at some point!
Walking vs Driving - you see so much more when walking and pay more attention to the architecture and landscape.
Yes! truth
Exactly ! Especially if You walk from Regensburg to Munich. You will enjoy it for hours/days. Walking around city like Vienna is also great exercise
