    Thanks for the info. I was suspecting this was from the 50's or 60's, judging only by the style of the motor and the condition of the grease in the bearings. Yeah, they're still available, in models ranging from 115v 15 amp up through 277 volts, and have the option of an automatic sensor, which I would suspect uses a solid state timer rather than the synchronous motor.

    No idea... Motors are expensive in general, though, due to the high amount of copper in them. Even a small motor for an older Nutone bath fan runs around $50 or more new. I wouldn't suspect the motors on these need replacing very often, though, as long as the bearings are kept lubricated.... motor brushes have a 3 year warranty on the new units.

    Wow this 1 must be super old! I've never seen 1 w/ that label before, & that font looks very old. I know of a Model "A," I think it's slightly newer than this 1, probably from the 80s, where when you press the button, the heating elements turn on, & it keeps clicking, but the motor never turns on. I feel like the motor on that 1's also seized.

    i agree the price of copper today is ridiculous that why we hear more of air
    conditioners getting stolen or rip apart on the spot because the copper condensing coils

  • @general0ne
    @general0ne  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah, I discovered that with a bit of searching... Though I'm sure the sensor models have a solid state timer.

    That is probably the oldest electric hand dryer still in production. They were first made in 1948. That unit probably dates to the late 1950s or the early 1960s.

    My Middle School I go to has one similar that's rusty and is missing all the labels and can be heard from the Hallway and also puts out a lot of heat..

    Oh my god, I saw and used this exact dryer at a summer camp I went to a few years back. Place fucking sucked, looked like it hadn’t been renovated since the 60s/70s. Now I would be fine with that if they kept it properly maintained, but to say the least it was NOT properly maintained (mice)

    Not bad if you need a parts unit. Though it wouldn't be of much use for anything else without the outer cover.

    also you could rebuild the motor which is cheaper than buying a chicom motor

    Any idea why the motors for these things are so expensive? A new Model A dryer is about $375...

    I think according to the serial number this is either a 1976 or 1956 model, but I am not sure.

    There's no reason they can't be used in a home. They're just more common in commercial installations.
