- Noted by the New York Times for “a dramatic intensity that honored the texts” soprano
JESSICA GOULD’s discography includes projects for SONY Classics, Navona Records,
New World Records, MV Cremona and others, covering over four centuries of music history.
Vigorously explorative, a protean artist of boundless curiosity, her performance schedule
ranges from the Italian Seicento to Stradella to Brahms and Wagner, as well as countless
contemporary compositions. As a guest artist at Carnegie Hall, Indiana University's Jacobs
School of Music, Juilliard, the Guggenheim, and a host of palazzi and institutions across the
United States and Europe, she has fomented engaging, challenging programming concepts
that sharply redefine orthodoxies and cultural givens. Jessica is also a busy artistic director,
film director, writer, and translator (Italian). With over 90 awards from festivals across the
globe, her short, Babylon: Ghetto, Renaissance, and Modern Oblivion, is the most decorated
music film of all time. Salon/Sanctuary Concerts (NYC), a path-breaking historical
performance series she founded, recasts the context in which we experience music of other
eras and other peoples, notably embracing marginalized groups. She holds a bachelor's in
art history, music, and political science from Macalester College (St. Paul), and studied fine
arts at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Parsons School of Design, and the
National Academy of Design.
Pianist and harpsichordist GAIL OLSZEWSKI received her bachelor's in Spanish and music history/harpsichord performance from the University of New Hampshire, her master's in piano performance from Boston University, and a DMA in accompanying and coaching from the University of Minnesota. She has presented master classes and lecture-recitals on women musicians and their music, chamber music, ornamentation, Classical performance practice, Finnish piano music, and the history of keyboard instruments at many schools, in symposia, and for professional organizations. A number of her reviews appear in the journal of the International Alliance for Women in Music. She is a member of Music St. Croix (Stillwater, MN) and a founding member of The WolfGang, a Twin Cities ensemble dedicated to authentic instrument performance of Classical-era music, and, with harpsichordist/composer Asako Hirabayashi, of Duo Tastiera. Gail has recorded with the Borealis Brass, The WolfGang, OboeBass!, and Duo Tastiera. She is on the keyboard faculty at MacPhail Center for Music, Minneapolis. Privately, she teaches piano and harpsichord, and coaches singers, instrumentalists, and chamber ensembles. She recorded Northern Lights: Finnish Favorites, an album of piano music by Finnish composers, on the Frederick Collection’s splendid 1877 Blüthner. She has also recorded Books 1-5 of Grieg’s complete Lyric Pieces on the 1886 Chickering concert grand at the La Grua Center (Stonington, CT).
