    I'm surprised Brisbane got the Olympics. It's not an enormous city like Tokyo, Paris or Los Angeles. Then again, the Olympics were in Atlanta and that was a disorganized mess. Hopefully Brisbane will be a great Olympic site.

      It’ll run fairly smoothly, just like it did in Sydney in 2000.

    • @NebraskaGonvilleJones

      The Atlanta metro population is nearly 7 million people. Brisbane is 2.5 plus the Gold Coast is just over 3 million. Atlanta is a much, much bigger city than Brisbane.

    • @NebraskaGonvilleJones
      @NebraskaGonvilleJones 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-. I am sorry Ethan but that is incorrect. The metro area of Atlanta is approx; 22,000km2. Brisbane is 6,000km2 and the Gold Coast is 1,350km2. The Gold Coast is certainly not larger, Atlanta is over 16x in area and 11x in population of the Gold Coast. 🤨

    • @NebraskaGonvilleJones
      @NebraskaGonvilleJones 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-. You are incorrect again Ethan. As you know (or should if you are digging your heals into this discussion) Australia has a different system of how we measure a city’s size to the USA. We break our metropolitan areas into suburbs and the sum of those suburbs or council areas (a very rudimentary description) we call a city. For example it would be reasonable to say that the city of Sydney has a population of approximately 5 million people (2022). It would be deceptive and unhelpful to say that the city of Sydney has a population of approx 250,000 people. Of course factually this statement would be correct as ‘the city of Sydney council’ area’s population is accurate. Using this logic Sydney has never hosted the Olympics and Homebush with a population of just 7000 or it’s council area of Strathfield (45,000) would be the Olympic hosts and certainly classify as the smallest to do so.
      To suggest that describing the total population of Atlanta is akin to using Queensland’s total population is absurd, they are very different things. You seem to want to allow Brisbane metro area plus the metro areas of the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast to add to a total but only allow one district of Atlanta to count. This is inconsistent reasoning and does not serve to have any accurate understanding of the facts.
      “And no the metro area isn’t technically Atlanta” - if you want to be consistent with this description will you then concede then that Sydney hasn’t actually hosted an Olympics and that Homebush did a great job for a city of just 45,000 people?
      I do need to offer a small correction. I did state that the total area of Brisbane was 6000km2, this was taken from outdated information or more than likely a dubious source. According to more recent statistics it is indeed closer to 16,000km2. Still much smaller than the area of Atlanta.
      This all adds up to semantics. Semantics that you introduced to the thread. The simplest and best way to understand the size comparison to the Atlanta games and the Brisbane games is that Brisbane (will hold an amazing games and I’m confident much more organised than the bungled Atlanta) even though it’s total population is less than half of Atlanta and it will be amazing!

    • @NebraskaGonvilleJones
      @NebraskaGonvilleJones 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-. By the way Ethan, the ‘city of Brisbane’ is only 1340km2 with a population of 1.2 million. Interestingly Brisbane’s area also includes part of Moreton Island, you are happy to include this as part of the cities area but not the many built up suburbs of Atlanta? If you would like to stick to the “technicalities” then let’s at least recognise what those technicalities are.

      The world isn't going to end, yeah the Climate change is real but the world isn't going to end in a near future. Also from what I understood most of the venues are pre-existing ones because there is real footage of them and not just Mockups. Tokyo 2020 also re-used some venues, and Paris 2024 is likely to use some historical places as venues, and not just New ones. So this olympics are kind-of Green thanks to the re-use of the venues.

      @ This from 2019. The youngest woman ever elected to Congress again made headlines and sparked conservative criticism when she said Monday that "the world is going to end in 12 years if we don't address climate change."
      Oct 24, 2021 - The Climate Change Authority a Australian Government agency
      recommended Australia's emissions be reduced by between 45% and 65% on 2005 levels by 2030. I have solar, I spent a lot of money and it was the worst thing I ever did.

    The Olympics movement is dead. Hardly any sensible cities will now bid to host any future Games, which explains why the IOC handed the hosting to Brisbane. It's becoming a dud.

    All the costs and demolitions of private property involved, and they're only upgrading the Gabba's capacity by 8000... what a fucking joke.

    Don't agree on site. Tourists want a beautiful area not a city intersection. Come on we can do better than this. We need an area with clean air and peace and quiet. Not the sound of constant traffic.
