    As a young Melbournian, I was surprised to see how the city still looks and feels like modern Melbourne, albeit, without the skyscrapers. I also never knew how big the MCG still was in the 50’s

      Thank you Olympic committee, for posting this, My Uncle was part of Indian Football team of this game and won forth position , we are so happy to spot him in few seconds & we cant express the gratitude in words.

      This is the last Olympics where India has reached Semifinal In football and achieved the fourth position. Thereafter we had never reached into that position or above in International Level, My Late uncle T.A Rahman was part of that team, he carries that memory and had the vision to create a team like that , he established Universal Football academy carries his vision and continues that mission after passing away through us . We request Olympic committee if any footage available for Indian Football team in this Olympic event please consider Posting in this channel, It will be a inspiration for football lovers in India .

    A beautiful and gentler time in our world despite the tensions of the Cold War. Melbourne showed the world how people should and can carry themselves. We might not always agree, but the humanity that unites us is far more important than any ideology or deity that can divide us. We are all human beings and we all bleed and cry. Melbourne's Games were Australia's first, and they became known as "The Friendly Games". There were so many embracing things about the Melbourne Games that stunned the world. Melbourne embraced her Olympic visitors like rock stars, and when Emil Zátopek won the marathon, the city cheered as if he was one of her own.
    Melbourne put her signature stamp on the Olympics by making all athletes march into the stadium during the closing ceremony not representing nations, but locking arms and hand in hand together. Soviets arm-in-arm with Americans. A genuine display of a united humanity. Beyond political and religious ideology that's what we all want and Melbourne showcased that all the way back in 1956.
    Melbourne went on to become an amazing global metropolis and sporting epicentre, still tolerant and now an international city. Melbourne showed the world back then how humanity should receive and respect each other. Melbourne's citizens carried the occasion back then by embracing her visitors while also showcasing to the world the same wonderful joy of Australia that Australian's all know, even to this day - That to be born in Australia back then and to this day, is to win life's lottery.
    This is the same spirit which the ANZACs displayed to world during two World Wars and many wars and confrontations since. A wonderful nation, that continually has dedicated itself to its own peace and to a peaceful world order.
    Is there a better place on Earth to hold an Olympic Games than Melbourne? I do wonder.

    Interesting reading the comments about the correct pronounciation of Melbourne.
    The city was named after the UK Prime Minister Viscount Melbourne, and he would probably have pronounced his name as 'Mel-Born' ie the British way...
    But hey, that's how language and colloquialisms evolve

    8:53 Is that the Band of the (British) Royal Marines? In the next frame at 9:09 I can see the Army (Red) and Navy (White) Bands too, all wearing pith helmets. I can't see the Air Force Band, apart from their Fanfare Trumpet players.

    • @louislungbubble
      @louislungbubble 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The bands of the RAN wore the same uniform as the Royal Marines up until the late 1950,s or early 60,s . the Army bands that came on later wore a mix of full dress red , blues and summer white. as you say RAAF trumpeters to complete it....
