I was there and witnessed her beautiful first ever solo piano performance in public. Saiki and Kanami did a couple of acoustic songs at the center stage and walked back to the main stage where a grand piano was set up. We thought "Oh great! It's going to be Saiki singing with Kanami's piano!" (Kanami is an excellent pianist.) But Kanami said "bye" to Saiki and retreated to the side of the stage. Saiki sat down in front of the piano and said with a mischievous smile "Are you surprised?"😏
During the MC time after this performance, Saiki told Miku "I was so nervous, and my hands were trembling."

I saw that. Her hands WERE trembling. I was praying for her like her granny and was so proud when she almost nailed it...yes. I cried.

This song actually shows what a magnificent voice she has. So often it is overlooked because of all that goes on around her in other songs. She taught herself to play the piano starting during covid. That is dedication to your craft! She didn't have to do this and she would still have been all Band Maid needed, but like all of them she chose to develop her talents and skills beyond what was required. My hat is off to this wonderful Lady and singer and now musician!!❤❤❤

I watched the livestream of this concert. 3 1/2 hours. 33 songs. This is her first time playing solo in public. For 8,000+ at Yokohama Arena. I was so proud of Sai-chan I cried like a baby. 🙂

If I am remembering correctly, she only started to learn piano in 2020 when the lockdowns happened. She had a piano at her place for when Kanami came over to work on songs, but she never really played it herself. During the lockdowns she supposedly started to take online lessons, then Kanami took over teaching her the basics.

@@greylocke100 I was just going through some misc. stuff and watched her doing solo covers strumming chords on a guitar. She's used a keyboard too for them but just the chords so she could sing. I bet she had a teacher before Yoko. Man, I remember watching that night. It was no joke emotional. Charles and surfingasongwave were in the chat with me. Best ticket I ever bought.

@@80mtn Yes, in one of the radio interviews she did last month without Miku, she stated that she had gone to the Yairi shop and ordered a custom guitar.

Her voice is so perfect 😁 And to play piano for the first time in public at their largest crowd ever, while singing at the same time! These maids are so inspirational!

She has been singing in the band for 10 years, but she has never sang alone on stage while playing piano.
I was moved by her wonderful voice and her playing the piano, which she has probably only been playing for a few years.
But the most amazing thing was that she played piano and sang in public for the first time in her life. It was in front of the largest audience in the band's history.
This wonderful event will remain in their history and will be told for future generations.
No, not their history, but the history of music.

She does have a beautiful vibrato! And I am glad she does not overuse it like other lead singers. Never really cared for female singers much growing up. But Saiki has changed my mind on that stance - I now favor female singers over male singers. Thank you!

Great reaction as usual my dear.
Now react to the full band playing the same song, at the same show. Visuals are from 24 fan cams over the live audio. Saiki Misa and Kanami wander around the crowd on the walkways while playing and singing. Truly amazing.

Later in this concert they did the full band version of Choose Me while strolling around the arena, there's a version of that song captured on 24 fancams and edited together on Ohrenje's YT channel. That version is worth seeing as well just for the spectacle and usual Band-Maid perfection.

Nice reaction and analysis of Saiki's vocals...enjoyed your comments about this performance...BTW: this was her first time on the piano and singing solo on stage in a concert...I bet she was really nervous but she did great!
Can I suggest you follow up with the backup vocalist of the band - Miku Kobato (band founder, backup vocals, lyricist, guitar) sing an acoustic version of the song " Sayonakidori" - she also was responsible for the arrangement o. This song....initinaly Miku was the original singer of the band but she decided to step back and found Saiki to replace her as her voice did not meet her expectation for the type of music that the band plays....However, she does have an amazing voice too and both singers work so well together on stage! Thanks! Peace & Respect from Montreal, Canada

You know, there are so many vocalists who have amazing range and power, but not many can do what she does in different styles of songs. They are good at singing the kind of songs that make them stand out, no rapping, she uses her vocals like percussion sometimes, her vocal runs are soul melting, and actually she does have impressive range, she can go lower than many fans think, and her falsetto is also quite powerful. I think she's a singer and part of Band-Maid's rhythm section. Some vocalists have incredible voice with wow factor, but if he or she isn't a great 'singer' I'll get bored sooner or later.

Saiki during this performance proved that she is one of the best singers in Japan. No one expected to see her play the piano singing Choose me and blow us away with this version full of emotion. She is not, however, a musician, but her determination and courage says a lot about these 5 young women capable of sublimating themselves to simply offer a grandiose show to all their fans. I hope that you will have the opportunity to see the blu-ray of their show lasting more than 3 hours at the Yokoama Arena and I assure you that you will be dazzled. Thank you Jacqueline for your great analysis and take care of yourself.

Imagine debuting on piano and singing solo for the first time, ever, in front of ten thousand people! Saiki's tummy butterflies must have been the size of jet airliners, but she performed it like the professional that she is! For practice, Saiki performed this in their studio with her band mates as her audience, and it was done perfectly!

She actually has amazing vocal control. Maybe that’s why Puzzle and Blooming weren’t in the setlist. Those are challenging breath-wise. Influencer was in the setlist but that was way early in the concert.

Great to hear JVB reviews again !---as a non-musician I find Jacqeline's emphasis on vocals a welcome change to the usual imbalance-- that too often feature almost solely the instrumentals.
And this particular choice gets away from the constant bias towards heavy or metal rock!----Come on, p[eople !!---rock is NOT the only music out there....these days, the rock/pop zealots have lapsed into deeper prejudice than even the classicists ever did !
BandMaid is waaaay too talented to imprison themselves in some heavy little armor-plated shell of rock !
--------------and speaking of Japanese voices------SUZUHANA (of Wagakki Band) occasionally sings solo "Shigin" style---------------her voice sends chills throughout ! (A pity that Suzuhana, too, seems to get buried ,too often, under the dumb bulldozer of rock-ism ! ) Any chance of hearing reactions to longer Shigin solos of Suzuhana ???
Woiuld really like to hear more BandMaid reactions from Jacqueline !----the "duets" of Saiki and Miku are treasures that I would most love to hear her reactions to !

Saiki breathes through her ears, of course. No one can convince me otherwise!
She’s probably not considered a “great” singer because she doesn’t have the huge range of one of the pop divas or enormous power and classical training like, say, Floor Jansen. (Saiki’s range is really not very large IMO although she does use what she has very well and often makes large leaps.) But she does have a clear, sharp edge that cuts through a rock band, some power underneath that, very good breath control of course, and she’s very emotive.
I remember about… five years ago? She was working on her vibrato. There was one performance I saw in a fancam where her vibrato was just nuts, wildly out of control. But she managed to get some reins on it quickly.
Over the past year or so her singing has improved considerably; she’s using more power, more attitude, doing more belts and vocal fries, really going for it. You can hear that in the live Don’t You Tell Me and Unleash!!!!! from Yokohama Arena (on their channel) and their newest video, Protect You. If they ever release the video of them performing Show Them with The Warning, that’s probably the closest she’s gotten to going full diva. (There’s a fancam, but don’t react to it; people have gotten strikes.)

If you can find the full on performance of this song I HIGHLY suggest you react to it. If you can't there is the Ohrenje edit, where he took all of the fancams that the band allowed to be taken and edited them into a very nice coherent whole.

Loved this at 4am live last year, and your reaction! If only (Romanized) Saiki was italicized like musical terms are, so that we English readers would know to use Romantic (Italian/Latin/Spanish etc) Do Re Mi Fa pronunciation. It's a bit like "piano" with the i-a reversed. The long I/Y sound in English is fairly close, so Psyche is a decent homonym.
