    Good advice, especially on lake erie and champlain. in addition i find that going into the waves at roughly a 45 degree angle so you can roll over the crests and troughs of waves a bit smoother especially big rollers. You may have to tac like a sailboat a bit and its slower, but much safer.

    Great video Brian! Another benefit of running slow is not beating up the fish in the livewell. One thing I’d add is switching up to a 4 blade prop for more lift and burying the jackplate.

    Enjoyed the video. You explained running big water spot-on. I moved from a Whaler Montauk to a Tracker deep V. Of course you can't compare the two, entirely different purpose. I fish mostly lakes and rivers these days and the reason for the downgrade. If I have an itch for saltwater, I jump on a buddy's boat.
    From what you explained, is exactly how I would run the Whaler on bays and ocean on 2 to 3 foot winds waves. Thanks for the post, a lot of people can learn from your video and possibly save someone's life one day.

    Also I don't think he mentioned it. But wear your vests and attach yourkill switch cord. Things go bad fast guys. Stay safe. Chances are when it's rough like this . No one will be around for miles . So you gotta stay as safe as possible....
    Noone gonna beable to help you because no one will be around. years ago my cousin took a big wave in his champ wrong because he got impatient..it swamped the boat. (The Strongest Storms pop up really quick ).. he had to beach on a island and radio coast guard (before cell phones was common everyone had an antenna and radio onboard) for a ride (mississippi river).
    Boat was full of sand when he came back for it a day and a half later. (Waves over the transom while beached.

    If you're driving with the bow up like that. The motor has to be trimmed all the way down. The same way it would be trimmed all the way down if you are going to do a hole shot. Right? If so, doesn't that stress the transom way too much?

    Why pro fishermen don’t get trim tabs when they know they’re gonna be fishing big water I have no idea.
    Run a boat in the ocean to learn how to run a boat in big, rough water. Also a boat should not sink if it stuffs the bow. That’s incredibly poor design if it does.

    • @BrianLatimerFishing
      @BrianLatimerFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A bass boat doesn’t need trim tabs. Our hulls are far more responsive than a center console

    • @N2theBlue1
      @N2theBlue1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrianLatimerFishing a center console is just where the console is. A 42 foot freeman catamaran is a center console just like your boat you bought. And every boat needs trim tabs in big water, if they help a flat bottom skiff they’ll help a bass boat just like they help saltwater bay boats and skiffs. They just give a lot more control over running attitude. Just like in this video you wouldn’t have to be running at the absolute least efficient way - plowing right before getting on plane - if you had trim tabs.
      Bass fishermen are at the cutting edge of lures and techniques but bass boat design is stuck in the 80s in everything from livewell design to using trim tabs. They are absolutely not “more responsive”. Well I guess they might be more responsive than a 30 footer but they aren’t more responsive than say a yellowfin 21 bay.
