Jen! I just wanted to say that I recently read Please Do Not Touch This Exhibit and it was so incredibly beautiful, I cried. The way you write your poetry is immaculate - such care for each word. It was so utterly fantastic, so thank you for sharing your art with the world! ❤

I bought Pet based on Louise Savidge’s recommendation. I’m moving it up in my TBR now, to get it read this month or next.

I LOVE Dim Sum Palace so much and read it at my Lunar New Year themed storytime at the library. You're right, it's reminiscent of Sendak's Night Kitchen but it's also its own thing and I love that it keeps you hooked without being too scary. My storytime audience ate it up too (pun intended). Gorgeous illustrations and I loved what it looks like under the dust jacket as well!

I love your picture book recommendations! Part of my job is running a Storytime for children under five, and I’m always on the lookout for good inclusive books for children that have to do with gardens and nature, as that’s the setting.

I'm fascinated about the High House based on your overview of it, actually! I hadn't heard of it, but def added to my TBR. I wonder what you would think of Adrift by Brideau, a near-future climate fiction novel set in Canada about a woman with amnesia... about the lengths people will go to to escape the horrors of the climate crisis. (It was my fave read of 2023.)

I’ve just read Wifedom. It was unique, vivid & the author’s passion on her subject really engaged me more than any book I’ve read in ages.
Also, ive just found your channel & so appreciate the depth in your reviews!

We must have read The High House at the same time😊, I liked the beautiful writing and the atmosphere, which still stays with me. The rest is already a bit blurry.
I will try to get A woman in the polar night, it sounds like a book I would enjoy.
I hope you are doing well, going the final stretch of pregnancy...

I've just started A Sign of her Own today. I'm really excited to read it as I'm a Speech and Language Therapist so communication is a huge area of interest for me. Look forward to hearing your thoughts about it when you get back to it.

The Patricia Highsmith sounds ace. I've enjoyed all of the four books of hers I've read so far. Edith's Diary is next on my list to get. I read a biography of her last year that was so excellent!

I’ve just finished Penance and thought it was fantastic! Eliza Clark is such a talented writer and I can’t wait to see what she does next. I’m about halfway through A Guest in the House and wow what a beautiful graphic novel. Sending lots of love 💚

I enjoyed Pet too. Especially as set in my adopted homeland. I started a Highsmith deep dive but DNFd Deep Water, hoping for better with Cry of the Owl. Sadly I had to return Penance to the library as ran out of time, but hope to get to it soon!

What lovely books and the illustrations for those children's books were out of this world. Also the board book made me think what we offer baby's. I miss the days of children's books as my youngest child leaves that sort of thing behind.

I am currently reading (gasp!) a BIG book! It’s in the horror genre, but 150 pages in, the horror is still quite light, but still very effective. It’s called The Reformatory by Tananarive Due and I’m loving it so far. Definitely right book, right time. 576 pages would normally turn me right off, but the description made me want to dive in immediately. And I read those 150 pages in one day. Hopefully, it remains as compelling!
I will have to read Pet at some point. It’s a book I had a copy of but gave away. Listening to you talk about it reminded me of my days washing chalkboards, cleaning erasers, grading papers, and using the mimeograph machine to make copies of things for the class. Yes, this was well before computers, printers, photocopiers. Lovely memories. xx
