I'm Mexican from California, we have a large concentration of Hmong people. I'm trying my best to learn Hmong so to communicate with friends and those I don't know. Its a challenge to learn another language😁😁
My family gets upset with me when I don't speak hmong but they never taught me. I am finally gonna teach myself since no one wanted to teach me. I recently learned how to say numbers! One day I'm gonna speak hmong and they'll be so surprised.
I am so glad that no one is in the room with me to hear me try to say these phrases. I sound very silly, but I am very determined to learn. I thank you for posting this video.
I know understand hmong but cannot say things in it. I have lost my ability to speak it as I was in a English school. I want to communicate with my grandparents and any other relatives. This is very helpful to me. Thank you
I just recently got into learning Hmong. I just got done becoming fluent in Japanese about a few months ago, I really love Hmong culture and the language I look forward to learning more. This language is very interesting. Ua tsaug Heev!
I'm Hmong and this is not 100% accurate. First, in the beginning he said 'lus txais tos', but he wrote it LOS, which sounds like BALL. 2nd, in phrase 1: 'koj nyob li cas lawm' doesn't mean 'how are you?', but 'how have you been?' To say 'how are you', you would omit the 'lawm' at the end. As described in the video, 'lawm' means completion of action. So if you're asking someone how they are in the present, you wouldn't use 'lawm'. But if you're asking someone how they've been for the past few days, weeks, or months, you would use 'lawm' at the end. And 3rd, in phrase 5: 'Zoo siab tau ntsib koj' translates to 'glad to meet you'. To say 'I am pleased to meet you', it's '(kuv) txau siab tau ntsib koj'. But imo this phrase sounds super formal and weird.
Nyob zoo, I'm Chicano from San Diego and I married into Hmong 25 years now. I am still learning my phrases and it's been great in having these videos in learning Hmong, It's a challenge but I get to surprise my wife with new phrases. Ua Tsaug Mykou Thao! for my first learning from HmongBaby.
Great! Good that you are learning. I have all 30 lessons each for SPeak Hmong and Hmong Vocabulary all for free here at my new channel. Check it out and subscribe to the new channel.
Watch the video " learn Hmong in three simple steps - 2nd video (chart c)". She goes over the vowels' tone and makes it simpler to understand. Then come back here, it'll make it easier to read Hmong and speak it! Wished she had made more videos since she did a great job explaining and the charts made it easy to learn the tones.
It's not bad! As a Hmong-American who was born in America, my parents wanted me to learn English before Hmong. I did learn to speak both growing up, but I was told English is more important. Now that I'm older and can speak English fluently. I find myself wishing I can fluently speak in Hmong and know more then what I should already know. So never feel ashamed for not being able to speak Hmong as well. As long as you want to try and learn more Hmong then go for it! :)
same for what she said my first language is English my second is Hmong I was taught by grandparents and mother my father never spoke Hmong to me or my siblings I kinda wish he did but when I speak Hmong it come out really weird... so that why I'm trying to improve my Hmong
I live in Fox Valley in Appleton. Always been in school with Hmong speaking students. Always hear it and see it. very familiar with Kuv hlub koj. Thank you :))
Thanks for posting these videos. I have been wanting to learn the Hmong language since I have lost it when I was younger. Luckily I can still understand most of it.
This is awesome, I use to know how to write Hmong when I was little but since coming to the US I’ve lost everything. I’m gonna study hard ace it again.
My neighbors are Hmong and have been so kind and generous in sharing vegetables from their garden with us. Besides saying 'Thank you' how else can I show our appreciation to them?
I wish I had come across these video's a year ago. I'm a driving instructor, and I have a good number of Hmong students. It'll be nice to know a little of what they are saying and laughing about in the car.
I’ve been married to my Hmoob Moua husband for 22 years.. and I’m still not fluent in the language. Sadly... the elders don’t get angry anymore, they just talk to me and if I understand then I do, if not someone else will help me. I can make them laugh so it’s ok.
A very shy Hmong lady moved in across the hall in my big high-rise. I want to surprise her by greeting her in her language. I'm only amateur and trying to figure out how Hello in Hmong is pronounced using the English characters. You say something like; "nee ou jung" for hello and it is spelled "Nyob Zoo" which I would pronounce "nee-ob zoo" and say zoo like in the animal park name of zoo in English. So the way you say it which I'm sure is correct, it seems it is spelled wrong using English character sounds. Just my amateur view.
pretty cut, i am in Laos and Hmong in Laos we always use the word "os" behind to the many sentence for instance: Nyob zoo=>Nyob zoo os, koj nyob li cas lawm=>koj nyob li cas lawm os. something like this.
Nyob zoo os! Do you have hmong lessons for nurses and dental assistant and hygienists, like for medical and dental terminology? I checked your website but I did not see it there... If not, I would love to collaborate with you translating dental terminology with you.

it OK 😊 if it hard at least your trying to learn Hmong then that all it matter ik it hard but keep on practice Hmong and if you do when your older you already know Hmong, reading in Hmong and writing Hmong so it good to practice young cause when you grow up you already know it fluently 😊😀👍

I wish you had a phonetic introduction. The consonants in English sound different from the way you are pronouncing them. Nyob would be pronounced "Nuyab" in English. Is there such a guide available?
