I am 'new' to learning a new language. I chose hmong because I work with several people who speak it. They are very helpful, but I like to see the written letters as well. I would like to what the picture represents. Is that the word below the picture? Can you write the word in english, hmong and phenetically so we can pronounce it? For example, Xx (pronounced săw with a silent w at the end?), Ss (pronounced shăw with a silent w?) or Qq (qwă). I don't expect to speak professionally, I just don't want to pronounce things wrong and affend anyone or embarrass myself. Thanks LuSee
There is no shame in recognizing the Hmong RPA (Romanized Popular Alphabet) as written Hmong. It is what it is--a structured writing system for the Hmong language. Hmong RPA has facilitated the proliferation of literacy among our people and helped to ensure the continuity of a language that most western-born Hmong speak clumsily. It is no less valid than a writing system that was "revealed" to someone claiming to be a messianic Hmong leader.
@goldseekertime You are right. this is not Hmong alphabet. I was taught that it was Latin alphabet by my teacher. It was used in Europe many centuries ago.
You're right, @ 2:34 the way he pronounce it is incorrect, however the picture is showing the correct image. But if he's teaching someone then i strongly recommend that he should do several editing before publishing. Btw, what is Rhoob? (he said it)
@glancemuajmoo Don't confuse your class with White Hmong and Green Hmong (Moob leeg). When it comes to teaching, I found many teachers mixed up with white hmong and green hmong. They were not even noticed it.

Ah, I was testing my ability to transcribe these words (I listened to the word, tried writing it out, then looked at the spelling given), and became confused at "rho" from double consonant "rh". I couldn't tell if there was a pronunciation error, a spelling error, or if my ear still couldn't distinguish tones well enough...
He doesn't list all the Tsiaj ntawv niam tab." There should be ab, am, aj, av, a, as, ag ,ad ib, im, ij, iv, i, is, ig, id eb, em, ej, ev, e, es, eg, ed ob, om, oj, ov, o, os, og, od ub, um, uj, uv, u, us, ug, ud wb, wm, wj, wv, w, ws, wg, wd Then aab, aam, aaj, aav, aa, aas, aag, aad aib, aim, aij, aiv, ai, ais, aig, aid iab, iam, iaj, iav, ia, ias, iag, iad eeb, eem, eej, eev, ee, ees, eeg, eed oob, oom, ooj, oov, oo, oos, oog, ood uab, uam, uaj, uav, ua, uas, uag, uad Still, this will help other people who like to learn how to read and spell in Hmong. Nice vid.
Friend, I think you either misstated or misunderstood. As it relates to Tsiaj Ntawv Niam Tab (single vowels), he did list all of them: a, e, i, o, u, and w. There are 6 single vowels and 8 double vowels (7 of these double vowels are in White Hmong and 8 in Green Hmong): au, ua, ai, ia, ee, oo, aw, and aa. The "aa" double vowel being Green Hmong. Taking a look at what you wrote, I think you mistook vowels for tone markers. The video did show all 8 tone letters/markers as well, albeit not with the vowels as you listed. As someone who cares deeply about the survival of our people, I believe that there should be uniformity in the understanding of our language. Los, cia peb sau tshooj tomntej ntawm peb haiv uake.
@goldseekertime, at least tus xibfwb posted it for free. why don't u go do some videos for those of us wanting to learn Hmong can understand & stop complaining.
Hmong Latin is not recommend for Hmong written language. Why? Because reason#1. Its purpose is to spread the Catholic religion to the Hmong only. 2. It was invent by non-Hmong. It is so shameful for Hmong to recognize it as Hmong Written language. Please think careful before you decide to honor it for the Hmong people.
Learned Hmong back in Thailand. Can't recall these many. Glad I can read and write in Hmong.

There are some where you mispronounce some words. Yes, I can't spell but I can read and speak it though.
