My ex broke up with me eight months ago and I am still not over him - I'm starting to think I'll never get over the heartbreak, the hurt, the regrets, the "what ifs". He is with someone new now while I'm unable to forget him and to finally let him go. "Blood on the tracks" saved me. Yeah man I understand, even if i am 15 and I love Dylan, some years ago my brother played some of his cds and I didn't like them, but now, two years later I fell in love first time I heard again his songs.
I like Neil Young Tired Eyes (please take my advise) but if you got that Neil Song you should get Bobs. I guess i don't like many of Neil or Bobs later records but they are 1 and 2 songwriters in my view. I guess i like Neil more as he hits me personally.

I purchased this album in 1974, upon its release...It quickly proved to be my FAVORITE Bob Dylan album of all time! It STILL is, for good reason, OBVIOUSLY! Every song is a masterpiece!!
I find tis track so wistful,initially,then listen to the story entwined with the sentiments of growing apart from someone.I certainly identify with this superb song.This man's range of songs is incredible,from lilting songs like this,and Just Like a Woman to hard biting songs like Masters of War and Positively 4th Street.I love Neil Young,Gene Clark,and lots of great composers,but Bob Dylan never pulls punches.Sheer brilliance.He would probably have the honour of being chucked off x factor for not singing enough trashy songs.

@@chambeet I'm no stranger to heartache. It's the pain that keeps on giving. After 30 years of marriage I got dumped by someone half our age with 2 little kids. I was looking forward to retirement and apparently he was looking forward to a whole new life and new family. It is the rejection and betrayal and the lies that never goes away when you've been with so.eone that long. I am over him, just not over the three above mentioned things. I will never be able to trust. I have a new friend that is interested. My best friend say go to dinner and a movie. It's not like you're getting married. He bought me a huge bouquet of flowers recently . We'll see.

Bob and some friends played this surprise at Denny and my Wedding.. he walked up, nonchalantly with a smile under the large old Beech tree and sang my song as we walked down the pathway as the ceremony ended.. i was blown away byBob ad this very special poignant song to me.❤️
I was in a Starbucks in 2013 the first time I heard this song (I hadn't listened to Blood On The Tracks at the time, even though a friend recommended me it a few months ago, because I had only heard his 60's rock trilogy). When I was there drinking an iced latte, I recognized Bob's voice immediately. I memorized the lyric "A change in the wather is known to be extreme" and searched the song when I got back home, only to discover that, in fact, it was from Blood On The Tracks. The next day during my lunch break I actually walked to the HMV near the school on Bloor St. to buy the album. I listened to it later that evening but I was so tired and fell asleep in my bed halfway through Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts. It was like 4:00 am when I woke up. I had school later that morning so I listened to the first half of the album on repeat. When I was walking to the building just before the class started, I played Meet Me In The Morning and it was one of the best experiences I've had with music. I still remember all of this very fondly. Blood On The Tracks is my favorite Dylan album.

Along with Martin's own great recommendations, please do also experience the beauty of my favorite album (and being the only album I rank higher than "Blood On The Tracks") . . . "Blonde On Blonde". The entire LP is so majestic. And I do rank Fourth Time Around as the best song of that two-LP set. Plus, Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands, with "my warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums . . . " will guide you correctly too.
@@aliasdyln33 I had already listened to the three Bob Dylan rock albums at the time. That was just the story of how I discovered BOTT. But actually I've listened a lot to Blonde On Blonde recently. I couldn't get into it years ago but after paying attention to Visions of Johanna and, you guessed it, Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands, now I consider it his best album.
If you've ever heard Hooty and the Blowfish- "I Only Wanna be with You" there are at least 3 references to Blood on the Tracks. The song references "You're a Big Girl Now", "Tangled Up in Blue", and "Idiot Wind." I just thought it was a cool easter egg/ nod to this album. I only caught it after I'd bought this album several years ago.

They weren't plagiarizingg Dylan, they were paying him homage. I'm going to look that case up now. I’ve read that some take the ‘big girl’ phrasing to be condescending and sexist, but I think it’s more like acknowledging someone you love and were tied to is ultimately a free and autonomous person. Might have fallen in love when we were young and barely adults, but we’re both big kids now, if you choose to kick me out or sleep with or be with others, it’s the price I gotta pay cause I won’t (and can’t) stop you. I absolutely love his use of "big girl," because it just makes it so much more personal and raw. That's the beauty of it. He didn't go for bullshit platitudes.
This song is about Joan Baez. A call he place to her while he was going though a divorce from Sara. He thought they should get back together, acknowledged his faults in the relationship “I can change” and she turned him down. Why ? She’s “a big girl now”, a free and autonomous person who knows he won’t change, but she has.

This is one of my favorite BD albums...memorable songs that have just stuck in my head since I first listened to it in 1975. So happy he's putting out new music now...the world needs it. Boy, do we ever. His songwriting prowess is amazing...I love great songwriters...Leonard Cohen, Gordon Lightfoot, Neil Young and so many others, but for me, BD leads the way. Great, great stuff.
I rate this song and the album as one of his best along with his earler recordings and some that followed. I'm seventy and this song still rips thruogh my heart.
Oh man, I found this album working my way though Dylan's discography at the end of high school. I remember sitting in my armchair pulled in front of my PC at 1 in the morning drinking some awful boxed wine. It was so bad I was putting it into a bud bottle first so I could just pour it down my gullet and avoid tasting it. All to get away from the thought that the girl I was in love with was going away to a different university from me and that was likely to be goodbye. It was, we've not seen one another since. We don't even wish each other happy birthday on Facebook anymore. I don't actually remember her birthday. Life eh? Timeless classic from Dylan's best album.
I was about 18 when I heard this song for the first time. And although english is not my mothertongue and my knowledge of it was really poor at that time, I managed to distinguish these words: "Like a corkscrew to my heart ever since we've been apart". And, holy gosh!!!, I felt like Dylan had just borrowed me words I was looking for to express the feelings I was going through at that time.

I purchased this album in 1974, upon its release...It quickly proved to be my FAVORITE Bob Dylan album of all time! It STILL is, for good reason, OBVIOUSLY! Every song is a masterpiece!!
I find tis track so wistful,initially,then listen to the story entwined with the sentiments of growing apart from someone.I certainly identify with this superb song.This man's range of songs is incredible,from lilting songs like this,and Just Like a Woman to hard biting songs like Masters of War and Positively 4th Street.I love Neil Young,Gene Clark,and lots of great composers,but Bob Dylan never pulls punches.Sheer brilliance.He would probably have the honour of being chucked off x factor for not singing enough trashy songs.

Love the line "Oh, I know where I can find you, Oh, in somebody's room/It's a price I have to pay. You're a big girl all the way." What ruthless honesty. And, of course, "I'm going out of my mind with a pain that stops and starts, like a corkscrew to the heart, ever since we've been apart." What a good goddamn album!
@@chambeet I'm no stranger to heartache. It's the pain that keeps on giving. After 30 years of marriage I got dumped by someone half our age with 2 little kids. I was looking forward to retirement and apparently he was looking forward to a whole new life and new family. It is the rejection and betrayal and the lies that never goes away when you've been with so.eone that long. I am over him, just not over the three above mentioned things. I will never be able to trust. I have a new friend that is interested. My best friend say go to dinner and a movie. It's not like you're getting married. He bought me a huge bouquet of flowers recently . We'll see.

I was in a Starbucks in 2013 the first time I heard this song (I hadn't listened to Blood On The Tracks at the time, even though a friend recommended me it a few months ago, because I had only heard his 60's rock trilogy). When I was there drinking an iced latte, I recognized Bob's voice immediately. I memorized the lyric "A change in the wather is known to be extreme" and searched the song when I got back home, only to discover that, in fact, it was from Blood On The Tracks.
The next day during my lunch break I actually walked to the HMV near the school on Bloor St. to buy the album. I listened to it later that evening but I was so tired and fell asleep in my bed halfway through Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts. It was like 4:00 am when I woke up. I had school later that morning so I listened to the first half of the album on repeat. When I was walking to the building just before the class started, I played Meet Me In The Morning and it was one of the best experiences I've had with music. I still remember all of this very fondly. Blood On The Tracks is my favorite Dylan album.

Along with Martin's own great recommendations, please do also experience the beauty of my favorite album (and being the only album I rank higher than "Blood On The Tracks") . . . "Blonde On Blonde". The entire LP is so majestic. And I do rank Fourth Time Around as the best song of that two-LP set. Plus, Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands, with "my warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums . . . " will guide you correctly too.
@@aliasdyln33 I had already listened to the three Bob Dylan rock albums at the time. That was just the story of how I discovered BOTT. But actually I've listened a lot to Blonde On Blonde recently. I couldn't get into it years ago but after paying attention to Visions of Johanna and, you guessed it, Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands, now I consider it his best album.
If you've ever heard Hooty and the Blowfish- "I Only Wanna be with You" there are at least 3 references to Blood on the Tracks. The song references "You're a Big Girl Now", "Tangled Up in Blue", and "Idiot Wind." I just thought it was a cool easter egg/ nod to this album. I only caught it after I'd bought this album several years ago.
@@SneedBass Yeah, I remember when it was out in the news that Dylan sued their butts over those lines. I think if I'd been Dylan I'da let it go. You're right to call it a nod. They weren't plagiarizingg Dylan, they were paying him homage. I'm going to look that case up now. I hope the judge found for Hootie, but you know how rotten and biased and ignorant judges are in copyright suits. They always find for the plaintiff.
I’ve read that some take the ‘big girl’ phrasing to be condescending and sexist, but I think it’s more like acknowledging someone you love and were tied to is ultimately a free and autonomous person. Might have fallen in love when we were young and barely adults, but we’re both big kids now, if you choose to kick me out or sleep with or be with others, it’s the price I gotta pay cause I won’t (and can’t) stop you. You’re a big girl now.

This song is about Joan Baez. A call he place to her while he was going though a divorce from Sara. He thought they should get back together, acknowledged his faults in the relationship “I can change” and she turned him down. Why ? She’s “a big girl now”, a free and autonomous person who knows he won’t change, but she has.

This is one of my favorite BD albums...memorable songs that have just stuck in my head since I first listened to it in 1975. So happy he's putting out new music now...the world needs it. Boy, do we ever. His songwriting prowess is amazing...I love great songwriters...Leonard Cohen, Gordon Lightfoot, Neil Young and so many others, but for me, BD leads the way. Great, great stuff.

Oh man, I found this album working my way though Dylan's discography at the end of high school. I remember sitting in my armchair pulled in front of my PC at 1 in the morning drinking some awful boxed wine. It was so bad I was putting it into a bud bottle first so I could just pour it down my gullet and avoid tasting it. All to get away from the thought that the girl I was in love with was going away to a different university from me and that was likely to be goodbye.
It was, we've not seen one another since. We don't even wish each other happy birthday on Facebook anymore. I don't actually remember her birthday. Life eh?

I always forget about this one. Man this is a great album!
I was about 18 when I heard this song for the first time. And although english is not my mothertongue and my knowledge of it was really poor at that time, I managed to distinguish these words: "Like a corkscrew to my heart ever since we've been apart". And, holy gosh!!!, I felt like Dylan had just borrowed me words I was looking for to express the feelings I was going through at that time.
