- From May 13th-15th of 2022, I ran the Cruel Jewel 100. With 33,000 feet of elevation gained and lost over the span of 106 grueling miles through the Chattahoochee Forest of North Georgia, this race isn’t for the faint of heart! In this video, I take an in-depth look at the Cruel Jewel course and dig into my experience tackling one of the most daunting ultramarathons in the United States!

Loved your video, Father! I am running the 50 mile cruel jewel this weekend and so encouraged by your words. Thank you!
Awesome! Have a great race. It's a beast of a course, but you'll love every minute!
Congratulations, Fr. Zack, on the amazing an impressive race that you successfully completed! Thanks for sharing details. God bless you!
Nice recap. I second the "trying to find the final water drop aid station"... it was so frustrating. I luckily linked up with a 50 mile finisher after Firepit, and she guided me the final 20+ miles. Nice seeing you there, and hope to link up again at another 100. Be well. Tim
Thanks, Tim! Any races on the horizon?
@@messinwithzacksquatch yeah, considering logistics for the Indiana Trail 100 in October. You?
Nice! Yeah, I'm signed up for Bandera 100k in January. Gonna run a local trail 50k in November, as well.
Thanks once again for sharing. 🙂
My pleasure!
Sorry about your loss of your friend. I look forward to your videos because they feel genuine. The race sounds amazing.
Thanks, Dan. And I'm glad you enjoy the videos!
Wonderful story. Very useful for me since I plan to run the Cruel Jewel in 2023 or 2024. Thanks for sharing
My pleasure! Happy to share.
That weaver creek section is brutal!I’ve only done the 50 but it was still brutal
Great video I’m doing the 50 whatever it is 656 miles this year and then I’m gonna do it again the hundred mile next year so I’m doing that and then doing the Georgia jewel which is another hundred mile. We have out here in September so Goodyear planned and next year I’ll hit that one andsomebody’s video scare me and some excite me
At the start of the race (10:33) I'm about 10 feet in front of you wearing the blue shirt and holding the GoPro! I just checked my race recap vid and you make an appearance there too lol.
Awesome recap, this was one hell of a race and that buckle is no joke.
I feel like I saw you a handful of times out on the course in the early stages, probably at aid stations. As soon as you uploaded your vid a few weeks back, I was instantly like "oh hey, the dude with the mustache!" haha.
I'm sure I'll see you out on the trails somewhere again, man. Blessings!
Thank You Father. I may never run this, yet the review was great! You are TOR? I went to Franciscan University and was postulant in 1988. Chose another path and am an OFS
@@BrianTierney-mt7od Yessir! First profession of vows in 2015. That's awesome you went to Franciscan! I was stationed there for one year and loved it. Did you have any classmates during your postulancy? I wonder if any might still be around.
@@messinwithzacksquatch I think only Father Stan although i dont know for sure
Alas, it is here!
Haha I got so busy in the weeks after the race. I recorded commentary as quickly as I could before I forgot everything, though. Finally had a chance to do some quick editing over the past week or so.
