I had to pause the video to give this comment… Hats off to you sir ! Your video quality is very impressive and I am extremely glad that your audio quality is very good as well, I am very surprised that you are still putting a ton of effort into your videos regardless of the about of people that view them or that subscribe to you… keep the grind going ! There are great things in store. Your effort does not go unnoticed! ❤
This video was pretty insightful - I managed to learn a lot about keyboard layouts and how they are designed within just 6 minutes - thank you for making this video octa!
Succinct and practical, thanks! Currently designing a layout for an indigenous language in Caucasus, and this was super helpful introduction into the theory. At the very least now I get the basic principles.
I'm working on a keyboard layout for my own language, Engelsaxisch, so this online analyzer would be great to use to find the best position of keys to include the new letters I need.
oh neat, i didn't know layout analyzers were a thing! i've just made my own layout that's "optimised" for typing in japanese and toki pona (there are a LOT of sfbs in english), and all of the vowels ended up in the same positions as in dvorak lol.
There exist ones that move around the numbers im pretty sure Also i need to remember this video when creating a new conlang writing system keyboard layout
110 wpm on qwerty after 2 months of learning touch typing. is that good? I still need to improve my finger positioning because over time it’s gotten a bit worse
Then there are wacky layouts which are specifically suboptimal like cyrillic mapped to qwerty phonetically or latin mapped to cyrillic jcuken phonetically.
you know what would be an interesting video? A video explaining how people like Sean Wrona type, he said that he doesn't use the home row to type and it's more comfortable to him, the youtuber shoobs also seems to type like that.
This is mostly so for computers. On phones today typing is only done with one or two fingers. And I find it weird I don't see many mention this - ambiguity. How many decades have passed since the use of dictionaries for disambiguation was implemented on T9 keyboards? May I of course be wrong and they just aren't popular yet, but I don't know of any layouts that uses this same data of word combination frequencies to set apart letters with similar most probable preceding ones.
recently switched to Graphite Angle KP from Dvorak! it feels so weird switching layouts again, when i type fast atm, i default to dvorak, and when i type slow, i default to graphite, its very brain boggling lol, do you have tips? my current pbs are: dvorak speed - 140 wpm 60s (english 200) graphite speed - 46wpm 60s (english 5k) - 1 week in
@@Octahedron2 thanks for the reply, i find it kinda difficult to press z with the pinky, I'll definitely try it with the ring finger. And one more thing, you know all about monkeytype, how do i get the kinda texts that come in type racer instead of just words, i tried punctuation and quotes settings but i am not satisfied, do you have a way to make the texts just as that come in typeracer ?
great video! I think you put too much emphasis on SFB.. i encourige you to try layouts and experience how they can bring other things to the table! that discord is mostly about SFB and not overly enthusiastic about newcommers
i am currently using a custom layout that i made from bigram frequency charts, a .5U top row stagger, and no automation, aiming to minimize SFB the layout goes as follows, starting from where the ~ key is on qwerty: tab f w p y c / v g u ' ; del s a e n l , h t i o - lctrl z q j m . b r d k x rctrl alt win e b p l s n t the ebplsnt on the bottom row are Esc, Backspace, Space, layer keys (MO3 [macro layer] where B is on qwerty, and MO1 [number/symbol/navigation layer] where the space bar was on qwerty, with the keycap swapped out for a 2U one), Shift, Enter, and Tab (again), (truncated to one letter each for the sake of the diagram). intended to be used with your thumbs. the index fingers are intended to rest on n and h. i would not recommend this layout if you aren't using a .5U top row stagger, as the w, p and y keys are meant to be pressed with whichever finger isn't being used for the surrounding letters (so in words like "pet" you would use your ring finger for P but in words like "part" you would use your middle finger for P) the bigrams that get the short end of the stick with this layout include but may not be limited to: nc, lc ku, rv, ki, je, mn, br (though this one can be mitigated if you use the middle finger for R), lm, cl, ox, ik, ej, and hr. (with the last six being mitigated by sliding your finger between the keys) and if used on an ortholinear keyboard (which i already said i don't recommend), then ny, ep, aw, and o' get added to that list.
thanks to this video i learned all keyboard layouts in existence
i miss the days i was threading thin ice using sturdy on keymash... we should bring that back

Really great video. Just started trying the canary layout and now i know about the recurva layout thx
OMNIROLL MENTIONED

no way the typing master is back

nice editing 👍

Yeah, that’s great progress for sure!
This stuff is fire!
Very nice video!

Nice.
Yo why is this video so heat🔥🔥
Hey mate, you need to create a video comparing this modern layouts, i.e. recurva vs canary vs graphite vs sturdy vs gallium (v1 vs v2)
This is mostly so for computers. On phones today typing is only done with one or two fingers. And I find it weird I don't see many mention this - ambiguity. Do you know how to do a typing race on monkey type? I’ve seen a mythical rocket video doing it and was curious.

my current pbs are:

graphite speed - 46wpm 60s (english 5k) - 1 week in
I don’t particularly have any tips, but that’s a pretty normal experience so just keep practicing and you’ll be zooming at 100+ on graphite in no time
Great video quality :)

@@Octahedron2 welcome mate
Bro how can I use theme in monkey type how to apply code?😢
Sadly it all crushes as soon as you find out you need more than just letters and digits keys
Heyyyyyy which finger do you use to type z and q, the left pinky? I am asking for qwerty layout
I personally use left ring for z and left pinky for q

Been a long time since I saw you, how are you doing!
just started learning "magic sturdy" wish me luck guys.

I’m still alive I swear just busy being in college
@@Octahedron2 That's ok ☺
I was just about to make a video about this ヽ( °Д°)ノ
Great video though
there can never be too many alt layout videos 🙏
Please do! Make a video goes even deeper, talking about LSB, scissors and other things that are also important in a keyboard layout. 🙏
