When John was explaining how to score, it reminded me of Caldwell vs Horiguchi. Caldwell was a wet blanket the entire fight and didn't throw a single punch, Horiguchi won the judging by basically going for subs, punching off his back and from the cage.
Poor John. Brendan kept eating and John was gonna take another bite and he would ask him a question with his mouth full and Big John had to wait. Like wtf dude? 🤣

And if you listened John said control doesn’t mean anything if you are not doing anything with it (going for the finish ) so it defaults to effective striking in which Cory out stuck tj especially in the 5th round

Definitely. it's a fight , its how the new scoring system works. Anyone who says different is ignorant or just plain stupid . .this isn't a game of tag it's a fight. If I break your knee and bust your face up I won period .
Realistically, the fight wasn't as close as people make it out to be. Control and Aggressiveness are actual factors that judges use to determine a winner... TJ controlled or was the aggressor for more than 75% of the fight. Thats huge. Most people forget this... Damage isn't a factor at all even though it should be. The problem here is the 10pt Must system. It just doesn't work well for MMA.
They judge the fight round by round. Not as a whole like in Japan. Cory did the majority of the damage in the rounds in which he was awarded by the judges
I agree except, I think he did win the two rounds where he hurt TJ. The other three rounds were closer and I think TJ got the edge. Problem isn’t judging here it’s scoring fight by rounds and not as a whole.

I don't really watch Branden's Food Cart Journals or much of shwubs videos but Big John is always a joy to listen to. He's done a great job of inspiring fighters, referees, and aspiring young up and comers hopeful in both career paths

Resume is no joke: Went on a memorable 8 fight run in 2006-07, finished Nate, has really only lost to killers (except a few fights obviously) and is one of the best coaches in the game. Definitely the unsung hero at AKA too. You always hear about DEH CEH and Khabib, but never The Punk, Crutchmer, etc. He’s a real OG. I wish the fights with Chandler and Pettis would’ve happened.

TJ is sooo good. 2.5 year layoff, blew his knee out, and only vision threw one eye basically against one of the best fighters in the world and still got it done. that was the most impressive win i've seen since ortega came back and totally shut down tkz. crazy man. he's so good.

Josh Thompson, UFC OG, gifted coach for one of the best teams in the world, etc. is a casual? Come on man… he’s not a casual. He’s experienced and understands that EVERY fighter goes into fight night compromised. Every single time. Whether severe or not, every fighter has injuries heading into fight night. So TJ had a compromised knee? That doesn’t suddenly somehow mean his vision, timing, etc. is all instantly decreased. He was clearly rusty. If anything, he altered his style a bit to offset the injury (hence the grappling pressure), but those injuries don’t equate to the obvious ring rust he displayed. Sorry for the long ass comment lol.

Every silva has a chael and a weidman, every jones has a gustaffson and a reyes, every cmg has a khabib and a porier, every rousey has a tate and a holm, every mighty mouse has a cejudo. The best beat 95% of the roster except 2 guys usually. Even then its a 40/60 fight, 50/50 if your really great. Cmg has a allot of 50/50 fights with his toughest match ups. It goes to show just how good he really is.
