I agree with you. Ommadawn is the greatest in the long run, but for quite a long time Amarok was the greatest one for me. It's an extremely exciting and varied record with a fragmented neurotic/insane/angsty/paranoid/angry spark running through it. But it is also a record that is so full of life, honesty, joy, beauty, realization and relief. So, it expresses a very, very strange mix of feelings, like some crazy one-hour summary of a lifetime. In my humble opinion this record is one of the best and most fruitfully creative redemptions in Mike Oldfield's career. I still love it, and sometimes I wish that I could listen to it again for the first time. Maybe I should try to give it a spin now?
