I saw Slayer live 10 times. 8 with Hanneman. Last show for the last tour was so boring. Araya was just washed out. Maybe I will see him for the Lamb of God/Mastodon tour.
Given it's Kerry King, I'd be surprised if the album didn't have some anti-christian overtones. It seems to be just who he is and not something done for shock. Stay Metal and SLAVA UKRAINA!
A few days ago I took a listen to the entire album and guess what? I ordered the cd just a few minutes ago, the album is fucking badass!!!!! KKKKKKKKKKKEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYY 🤘😁
I have to say, it's really fun to listen to. Which cannot be said from any album that has been released by the "usual suspects" since mid-90s, where it's like genuine work to listen to the album in the first place, evocing no motivation for a second listen. This one can be listened to over and over, like the in good old days.
Death angel is extremely overlooked if you ask me, their debut is an absolute classic, some weaker records here and there but what is good is amasingly good. My biggest dissapointment with this record is how he doesn't use the same voice as in Death Angel, i do not like the half Tom Araya thing that much i think he sounds better just singing his own voice straight. Kinda gives the album a really flat overtone. Otherwise the album is actually a lot better than i feared it would be and is definetly up there with the Slayer records. Not bad at all, i would give it a 7.5 out of 10. Pretty fucking good for a first release with a whole new lineup.
I hear more of what I love about Slayer in this than on Repentless. Repentless, to me, sounded uninspired, fast for the sake of fast, and agressive for the sake of... Guess I just always liked that mixture of a diesel train chugging up to speed laid down by King, coupled with the unique sound of Hanneman. And Tom was pretty good too, when he wasn't trying to reach that half octave more than his voice can handle.
Totally happy with the album. It does just fine. Is it the best album ever? No. If youve listened to the last few Slayer albums you pretty much know what to expect. I dont understand peoples hatred towards it. Did they think Kerry King was going to totally reinvent metal? Thats just plain dumb. Oh, and Marks vocals are awesome. Hes a great vocalist, and dare i say...even possibly a better version of Tom Araya? Same over all vocal styling, but able to actually hit those notes that Tom used to.
it's music. music is not objective. Nobody should care if someone doesn't like an album. In times when you can listen to an album for free on TH-cam, reviews like this video are actually unnecessary. people only watch this to validate themselves. Being annoyed that other people don't like my favorite album is pretty childish
That's actually a good point. We all like what we like. As a Slayer fan, I think this album is great and feel most Slayer fans can easily like it as well. I don't get hung up on the whole "Slayer died with Jeff" thing. I just like the music. Lastly, to emphasize your comment, I listen to many genre's of metal. Some of the bands/genre's I like are ones that seemingly others absolutely hate. It actually makes me like it even more because I feel the bands music was made specifically for me, making it more personal.
This is a very good record. Yes, the riffs are pure Kerry, therefore Slayer (without Tom). Being an old guy back from the early eighties, I'm probably not going to any club to see them!😄. My moshing days are far behind me. It's great Kerry is continuing the thrash legacy. But Phil Dremel? From vio-lence? That's cool shit! Great guitarist!
If you don't like Kerry, then don't fucking listen to it! Why all the hatred!? If you think you can do better? Let's hear what you got to say. KFK!!! 🤘
Agreed, so many born after the year 2000 in the comments it seems. These millennial haters wouldn’t know what it was like to buy an album in the 80s and 90s and play air guitar on a cricket bat (Aussie here) and crank it on a stezza so things fell off the bookshelves

FYI: I'm a metal SNOB and IMO, the biggest Slayer fan on the planet. I have an entire shrine for fucks sake. lol With that said, the 5 songs that I've heard are good, not great. They sound like early demos of song ideas where you write the basic riffs to lay the ground work. Kerry really could have used another guitarist to expand on his ideas because these sound like basic demos of very simple riffs. Yes, I miss Jeff Hanneman, and apparently Kerry does too. Like I said, the songs I've hear are GOOD but sound like first takes of ideas that were not expanded upon. 6 out of 10.
“Solo record”.:..why do we call it this? Why is it called Kerry King? I really wish it was called something different tbh, so weird. I love the style though. It’s like a better version of repentless
I agree that the anti-christian imagery and lyrics are way overdone and outdated, it's something the fans are practically expecting from Kerry King. Like his signature sound, changing that up now is nothing that is going to help the project succeed in any way.
Kerry King is not KK and bands history's are completely different. Panteraish vibe . Hopefully Kerry is testing the market and looking for direction...... ✌️🤘🏴⚖️☠️🇦🇺🇺🇦
I’m not looking for KK to be, for lack of a better description, “Slayer by another name.” Beyond a one-off gig here and there, I think Tom is definitely retired. I think Dave is as “done” with Tom and KK as they are with him (especially KK, “that guy’s dead to me” is a stance!) and Jeff’s gone🙏🏾😢 I’m glad KK is staying true to his thrash roots. And that added Death Angel vibe is dope AF…!
I'm not really into the vocals from what I've heard to be honest. Phil Demmel rescues the overall sound with his solos in my opinion. What little I've heard hasn't made me want to buy the album. I think if there was something more melodic and/or quirky to decorate the full on intensity with, it'd make it more interesting to me. I'm not saying it's bad. I'm just saying it's not what I'm looking for right now. I think the main reason the 80s Slayer albums (and Seasons) are such classics is because Kerry and Jeff co-wrote a lot of the songs. In later years you had kerry putting out stuff Jeff may not have particularly liked but Kerry would change his mind. Like the song New Faith, for instance. Jeff said he didn't like the music when they started playing it but kerry said he had some good lyrics and to give it a chance. Jeff eventually liked the song when it made it on the God Hates Us All album. But I personally think the music lets the song down, despite Toms killer vocals, and that Jeff was right about it initially.
@hanglooserecluse if it was 1990 I'd probably want that album but would have to wait about 3 or 4 years to finish school and earn my own money to buy it. But, technically, you're probably right.

Let's just say this, the less Hanneman wrote slayer songs, the easier it was to play guitar to Slayer songs. The last 2 Slayer albums where King did most of the writing are very easy to play, and if I can play a whole song on guitar without much difficulty, then that's a mediocre song.
He never was the King. Jeff Hanneman as always and will be ever the true genius behind Slayer. Kerry was just the pupil and he will stay that. Having said that, I liked what I heard so far. Not original but doing the job. Like fast food.
Yes. Jeff Hanneman was the better musician, songwriter, and guitarist of the two. Arya's voice and Lombardo's drumming were also amazing. King's guitar work was adequate.
I don't mind the album. It's better to live in a world of Kerry king putting out music than living with most other shitty music coming out. Just enjoy the fucking music stop being an ass hole critic👍
Its a decent lp. Just kinda Slayer lite. It sounds to me like tracks that were intended for Slayer. But the scale that Slayer/its members is measured with has an impossibly steep curve that virtually no other band could survive on. So Kerry is in an unenviable situation. Damned if you do,damned if you don't.
I’ll give it a listen, but I don’t have high hopes for this band. I was only a fan of Slayer’s first 6 albums & God Hates Us All. I think most of what I enjoyed from Slayer wasn’t because of King’s input. Nor do I think he’s a great guitar player. I wonder how this project will last considering Slayer has reunited.

I am planning on seeing Slayer at Louder Than Life. Never got to see them as I am only 14, super excited for it.
i have seen slayer 3 times live and i am going to sweden rock this year where he will also be playing.

Death Angel is releasing amazing Thrash Albums since Decades, absolutely underrated Band!
I was at the first gig in Chicago and it was loud and heavy AF 👍 Super clean & tight.

Slayer was one of the originators in the early 80's of inverted crosses & pentagrams. Why would Kerry change now?
The inclusions of Phil, Karl, and Mark were clutch decisions. Paul was a no Brainerd. Well done across the board.

Comment: Kerry King has the option of getting so much talent when it comes to him making future albums.2024

Awesome music. Long live thrash!
I suspect Kerry also played all of the bass on this album by the way it is blended into the guitars so that you can't really hear it.
