    what is the percentage of crude protein for birds 18 weeks and older? in the video did not say.

    • @poultryfeedformulation
      @poultryfeedformulation  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Layer feed should contain 16% to 18% crude protein and 2800 kcal/kg of metabolizable energy. We strongly advise to consult a nutritionist or a veterinarian before deciding on the optimal crude protein level for your layer chickens.

  • @albinoenoquegomeschiparaja8168
    @albinoenoquegomeschiparaja8168 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hello I am from Africa Mozambique, I would like to know what determines if I should use a feed with 18 or 20 percent crude protein?

    • @poultryfeedformulation
      @poultryfeedformulation  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The choice of whether to use 18 or 20 percent crude protein feed depends on several factors,such as the stage of production, the availability and cost of feed ingredients, and the desired performance and profitability. Generally speaking, higher protein feeds are more suitable for chickens that have higher protein requirements, such as chicks.
      For example, for laying hens, a 16% or 18% layer feed is usually sufficient to maintain egg production and quality, unless the hens are very active or have a high egg weight.
      Therefore, the optimal crude protein level for your feed depends on your specific situation and goals. You may want to consult a nutritionist or a veterinarian to help you determine the best feed formulation for your chickens.

    what is the difference between soybean meal and Soya cake?

    • @poultryfeedformulation
      @poultryfeedformulation  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Soybean meal and soya cake are both byproducts of soy oil production, but they differ in the method of extraction. Soybean meal is obtained by pressing out the oil from whole soybeans, while soya cake is obtained by extracting the oil with a solvent, usually hexane.
      Soybean meal has a higher protein content than soya cake, because the solvent extraction removes more of the non-protein components. Soybean meal typically has about 48% crude protein (as fed), while soya cake has about 44%2 Soybean meal also has a higher metabolizable energy concentration than soya cake, because the solvent extraction removes some of the digestible carbohydrates and lipids.
      Soybean meal and soya cake can be used as animal feed, especially for poultry, swine, and ruminants. They are rich sources of essential amino acids, especially lysine, and also provide minerals, vitamins, and phytochemicals. However, they also contain some anti-nutritional factors, such as trypsin inhibitors, lectins, and phytates, that can reduce the digestibility and bioavailability of nutrients. Therefore, soybean meal and soya cake are usually heat-treated during production or processing to deactivate or reduce these factors.

    Maize bran & germ, whats the difference

    • @poultryfeedformulation
      @poultryfeedformulation  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Maize bran and maize germ are two by-products of maize milling. Maize bran is the outer layer of the maize kernel, which contains fiber, starch, and protein. Maize germ is the embryo of the maize kernel, which contains oil, protein, and carbohydrates. Maize bran and maize germ have different nutritional and functional properties, and can be used for different purposes.
      According to some sources, maize bran and maize germ can be used for the following applications:
      - Maize bran can be used as animal feed, as it is rich in fiber and has a moderate protein content. Maize bran can also be used to make high-fiber bakery and confectionery products, such as bread, muffins, and cookies.
      - Maize germ can be used to produce maize oil, which is a valuable edible oil with a high content of unsaturated fatty acids. Maize germ can also be used as animal feed, as it is rich in protein and energy. Maize germ can also be used to enrich bakery and confectionery products, as it has a nutty flavor and a high content of antioxidants.

    Can I substitute wheat pollard with rice bran,

    • @poultryfeedformulation
      @poultryfeedformulation  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wheat pollard and rice bran are both commonly used as sources of dietary fiber and energy in poultry feed, but they do have different nutritional profiles. While they are similar in some aspects, they are not interchangeable in terms of their nutrient content, so it is important to consider the nutritional implications of substituting one for the other in poultry feed.
      As you can see, rice bran contains more fat and metabolizable energy than wheat pollard, while wheat pollard generally contains more crude protein and crude fiber. In terms of calcium and phosphorus, the two ingredients are relatively similar.
      If you are considering substituting rice bran for wheat pollard in your poultry feed, it is important to adjust the other ingredients in the feed to maintain a balanced diet. You may also need to adjust the amounts of rice bran and wheat pollard to ensure that the energy, protein, and fiber levels in the feed remain appropriate for your birds.
      To make the necessary nutritional measurements, you will need to use a feed formulation software or consult a poultry nutritionist. They can help you calculate the exact amount of rice bran that should be added to the feed based on the specific nutritional needs of your birds, and make sure that the overall diet remains balanced and complete.

    But locally in Uganda, it's hard getting wheat bran, wheat pollard. Any alternatives

    • @poultryfeedformulation
      @poultryfeedformulation  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wheat bran and wheat pollard are by-products of wheat milling that are used as sources of fiber and energy in poultry feed. However, there are some alternatives that can be used instead of wheat bran and wheat pollard, depending on the availability, cost, and nutritional value of the ingredients. Some of the possible alternatives are:
      - **Oat bran**: Oat bran is the outer layer of the oat kernel, which is rich in soluble fiber, protein, and antioxidants. Oat bran can help improve the digestive health and immune system of poultry, as well as lower the cholesterol level in eggs. Oat bran can be used to replace up to 20% of wheat bran in poultry feed.
      - **Flaxseed**: Flaxseed is a seed that contains high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, lignans, and phytoestrogens. Flaxseed can enhance the egg quality, egg production, and reproductive performance of poultry, as well as reduce the incidence of fatty liver syndrome. Flaxseed can be used to replace up to 10% of wheat bran or wheat pollard in poultry feed.
      - **Wheat germ**: Wheat germ is the embryo of the wheat kernel, which is rich in oil, protein, and vitamins. Wheat germ can provide energy, essential amino acids, and antioxidants to poultry, as well as improve the flavor and color of eggs and meat. Wheat germ can be used to replace up to 15% of wheat bran or wheat pollard in poultry feed.
      - **Rice bran**: Rice bran is the outer layer of the rice kernel, which contains fiber, oil, and protein. Rice bran can provide energy and essential fatty acids to poultry, as well as prevent coccidiosis and aflatoxicosis. Rice bran can be used to replace up to 30% of wheat bran or wheat pollard in poultry feed.
      - **Oatmeal**: Oatmeal is a processed form of oats that is cooked or steamed. Oatmeal can provide energy, protein, and fiber to poultry, as well as improve the palatability and texture of feed. Oatmeal can be used to replace up to 25% of wheat bran or wheat pollard in poultry feed.
      - **Whole wheat flour**: Whole wheat flour is a flour made from whole wheat kernels, which contains starch, protein, and fiber. Whole wheat flour can provide energy and protein to poultry, as well as increase the water-holding capacity and binding ability of feed. Whole wheat flour can be used to replace up to 50% of wheat bran or wheat pollard in poultry feed.
      These are some of the alternatives to wheat bran and wheat pollard in poultry feed. However, before using any of these ingredients, it is important to consider the nutritional requirements, feed formulation, and feed processing of poultry, as well as the availability, cost, and quality of the ingredients.

    What of DCP

    • @poultryfeedformulation
      @poultryfeedformulation  ปีที่แล้ว

      Digestible crude protein (DCP) is a measure of the protein quality in poultry feed. It refers to the amount of protein in the feed that is available to the bird for digestion and absorption. The term "crude protein" refers to the total amount of protein in the feed, including both digestible and indigestible components.
      In poultry feed, DCP is typically expressed as a percentage of the total feed. This value is important because poultry require a certain amount of protein to support growth and development. The quality of the protein is also important, as some sources of protein are more easily digested than others.
      The digestibility of protein in poultry feed can be affected by a number of factors, including the source of the protein, the processing method used to produce the feed, and the bird's age and health status. For example, soybean meal is a commonly used source of protein in poultry feed because it has a high DCP value, but this value can be reduced if the soybean meal is heated during processing.
      Overall, it is important for poultry farmers to select high-quality feed ingredients that provide the necessary levels of digestible protein to support the health and growth of their birds.
