Where can I get that yarn ball winder?
@@Tiger-Creations Fiber artist supply co
Have you ever reviewed cheap yarn ball winders? I'm a lil broke but it would be nice to not do it by hand.
@@elfrog98 I haven’t reviewed it, but I have a ball winder from knit picks that’s great. I had it for years before I got this one.
@@TLYarnCrafts thank you, I'll have to check it out! In other news, my username seems to have changed itself ... 🤔
"...or I'll catch up on my murder podcast" made me literally laugh out loud. ME TOO
Don't we all? Lol... it made me giggle, too! Hehe
Just casually mentioning murder lol
Any recommendations?
@@stem-t5705 Dateline does one but it's basically just their episodes.
@@stem-t5705 my current fave is one that came out a bit ago called Bad Women that talks about the victims of Jack the Ripper and considers them as whole people, not just their murders and the fact many of them were "women of I'll repute".
When I was a kid my mom would pay me $0.25 to ball up her yarn lol
Good Lord that's a lotta money 😂🤣🤣
Ay it ain't much but it's honest work
@pickles and banchan Hey for an 8 year old in the early 2000s it might as well have been $10
thats gunna be me when if i have kids, i was already thinking how useful it would be if i had a kid to help count stiches, or untangle the yarn 🤣
You were PAID? Crikey it was forced labour with two arms held out between three of us winding wool. Never did see the point. Until I bought a hound and wanted to make him a jumper. Now it’s crochet all the way baby. However- I don’t wind my yarn. I just pull the thread from the middle 😂 ❤
You may want to add a caution that many swift's and winders have rough clamp surfaces, so a piece of cloth or paper between the clamp and your table or desktop might save the finish of the furniture.
Learned the hard way...
😊😊
😖
Oooh good advice, ty 👍🏻
@Queenie Maja knitting is done with two needles while crochet is with a single crochet hook. On average crochet works up faster and is easier to make a whole load of different things. Knitting however has an easier starting off point with it's base knit and pearl stitches.
That was the first thing that came to my mind!
When he was still with us, our cat Max was FASCINATED by the swift - he found the movement and sound so exciting. Thanks, I haven't thought about Max is quite some time.
Awww that’s so cute! My boyfriends cat is absolutely fascinated when I play the guitar, she likes Fleetwood Mac. And she’s really friendly so sometimes she’ll hop up on me and try to play with the strings, I have a video of her playing it with her claws lol.
I actually got my first swift and winder today and my partner and I gave it a try…I don’t think our two cats broke eye contact with it the whole time we were caking up about a dozen balls of yarn!!
getting a winder and a swift was an absolute gamechanger. made me less afraid of fingering/lace weight yarns.
I honestly don't understand why skeins are even sold in non-cake form. I understand it's more aesthetically pleasing to see the color shift throughout when you buy it, but they're so impractical! Caking them yourself by hand is very time-consuming when you don't have the machinery for it, and getting the machinery can be too expensive if you're only knitting/crocheting sporadically.
@@talunae.8924 from my own research on the matter is both to see the colors better, get a feel of the yarn and to not tension the yarn before using it. I agree, they are impractical, but it's also easier for small business owners to bundle them up like that
@@talunae.8924 Caking yarn puts tension on the fibers, stretching them out. It can impact the final fabric if it's left caked for a long time. This is also a reason a lot of people prefer a manual ball winder over an electric one.
if looks similar to using one of those curling irons with the comb or those stretchy plastic headbands with the teeth. if it's really ready to use its priceless. my yarn trunk is a rats nest because I HATE winding it
@@talunae.8924it's definitely an ascetic thing. it works on me, they look so pretty all twisted like a braid
I understand how this new one with be better for your work environment, but the old one was so much more aesthetic 😭
People with yarn related hobbies have the best heart
I still do it old fashion way. Granddaughter holds the yarns. While I do the ball. Saves tons of money and cost me a stick of gum or lollipop lol
That's how my mom still does it too! Until recently we were victims but then I found deer antlers mounted on a board in a thrift shop and now she uses those. They are the perfect width.
I use a broken wooden spoon handle 😂. It fits in my hand perfectly and has a hole on bottom i can hold the yarn tail in. Recently I've been wanting a winder and swift tho.
Or the super old fashioned way.....working alone and detangling it as you go lmao
@@Odundleer true. True
Wow! I never knew what a swift was. I always held the yarn for my Mom and Grandma, and my Mom would hold it for me. Now that they both have passed away, and my daughter lives out of town, maybe i should get a swift. I sure miss those times with my loved ones! 💔
sit on your bum/hips and instead of the umbrella you can use your knees (fold your knees) and wind!
Используем ножки стула😂
Her smile is so genuine this shit brought me joy and I don’t even have this as a hobby
Winding yarn is very relaxing. Haven’t been able to do it for a couple of years due to housing, but hope to resume by summer’s end.
I bought a really crappy swift about 4 years ago & had never used it until last year. The very first time I used it, it broke into a million pieces. 😅
I didn’t want to buy another on so I was just using my office chair as a make shift swift.
But this swift you’re showing fits in with the decorating style in my home so I’m thinking about getting this!
Personally I'm not a fan of the umbrella style as it doesn't make a lot of sense. It doesn't utilize the potential energy of the hanks weight and instead stresses the structure continuously. It's only advantage is collapsibility, so you kinda have to think of it like a disposable product which isn't my style. I keep telling myself I'm going to 3d print myself a vertical swift soon enough.
@@yarrrnbehooked you could just attach it to a bookshelf so it winds sideways. The concern would be a loose cake if there’s no tension.
@@TLYarnCrafts yes absolutely. On either a vertical or horizontal swift the ball winder should be at least 90 degrees from the direction the swift rotates to facilitate proper tension. This is especially important with electric winders.
So *that's* how those yarnwinders work!
Love the little Tina Belcher in the background. Adorable. ✌🏻🩷🌷🌿
I crochet and have for decades. Never seen these. Very cool! Thanks for sharing so many details.
Great video. Covered the points, concise and informative. It was clear, short and a pleasure to watch. Thank you.
P.S. Great smile!
Winding yarn is just so satisfying 🥰 🧶
Today years old when I realized I shouldn't untie the yarn until it's on the swift!!!!!
Ooh!! I love this song!!! Neo Soul for lyfe!!! 👍🏾
My Nana had a hand yarn ball thingy. It was the best when the cat got a hold of your ball of wool!!!
I need to splurge on a swift and that winder that you have! It looks so smooth and flawless❤
I have that swift and LOVE caking all the yarn I can get my hands on not just hanks 🤣🤣so satisfying
This really gave me memories. My mom loves knitting and she used to do it a lot, and I remember watching her doing this and I thought it was fun, so she’d let me do it and I’d always have so much fun and even be disappointed when it came to an end. Seeing this again made me remember an part of my childhood I kinda forgot about. Thank you💕
I use an all-in-one winder which also holds the full skein of yarn on a vertical arm. It is at least two hundred years old and was made in the Shetland Isles of Scotland.
If only it was that easy! I don't know about others but I had to constantly stop and untangle the yarn on my swift - it was no faster than putting the yarn around table legs and winding it into a ball the hard way, (which was actually the easier way). Luckily, most yarns sold in UK are already wound and only hand spun yarn from artisans come in hank form.
I’d love another video talking about how different methods of making that yarn ball change the twist of your yarn in different ways. And how pulling the yarn from the inside or outside of your ball also changes the twist.
I LOVE that winder!
I'd miss the ole ways of having another hold the new yarn in their hands while I rolled into a ball, all the while sharing a wonder human connection of conversation, consisting of laughter, heartfelt concerns of life in general, etc. The way it should be before gadgets enabled us to feel alone & disconnected, there's always many someones out there who would rather engage while performing the ole simple pleasures in life ( you're never alone, just reach out & be that simple pleasure of wonderful conversation & sharing the simple times that bring inner peaceful connections. ❤
I dont even knit, and I watch this!
Ditto
Girl, your voice is so beautiful and soothing! ♥️
Oh very pretty swift😊
i had no idea these kinds of yarn winding machines existed, that's so cool! :)
Winding yarn is so calming ❤
I love how you said “I love to daydream” I am a dreamer too! And I felt it! I felt all the energy in that moment and it was powerful and I loved it !
YOURE TELLING ME I COULDVE BEEN USING A MACHINE THIS WHOLE TIME?!? I’ve been white knuckling it through life and doing it by hand 😭🤚
I could watch you do that all day, it is so soothing to me. Idk why 🤷🏻♀️
so you'll do your daydreaming watching her daydream while winding!🤣
Thank you for a lovely straight forward video. I've been crocheting for the last 15 years and had NO IDEA these existed. Bless!!
That’s actually really smart
I love it ! Winding yarn has been the bain of my crochet existence ! I'm going to get one for sure!
I used to work at a yarn store and winding customers’ skeins was my favorite thing!
I love yarn winding so much its so fun
I just bought one! I can’t believe I waited so long. Having one of these is just priceless.
This woman's happiness made me happy. I miss seeing a genuine smile on the internet...
Ohhh, I've been calling that a knitting tree, but swift makes much more sense, thanks for the info!
I just got my first swift and winder from WeCrochet after shying away from hanks for 40+ years and haven’t tried them yet. You made it look effortless and nothing to be scared of. Maybe tomorrow 😊
When I was a little kid my sister taught me how to hand wind a yarn ball. That was weirdly relaxing. So I get why you enjoy this. I love winding bobbins on the machine to.
Swift:So esthetically pleasing
Winder: gorgeous
Cake: yes please!
Omg that skill with opening the yarn
That ball winder you recommended is awesome
Thank you⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐💯❤️😃 DEMONSTRATION ALL: 10's Freakin' Awesome
Love it!!! Also you smile brightens me day every time.
Your smile is so beautiful! 😊
I need some kind of doodad that adds a little bit more twist to my yarn because I utterly detest it - in ways that I can't write here - when it splits or begins to de-twist as I'm trying to crochet! It's the bane of my existence in my happy place which is pretty much anything or place with yarn and a hook.
Thank you for sharing, Toni.
You taught me that the way I had undone my skeins in the past was incredibly incorrect.
I don’t have either of these products but I do now know how to place my skein on something so I can use it easily without tangles. Ty ty
Yayyyy! Glad I could help (I, too, had to learn this the hard way, lol)
You have beautiful smile and i like your smile, because your smile makes me happy♥♥
You have the most beautiful smile!
I have and love this swift!
Thank you for the demo! Makes it feel easy to do 😊
It is easy, especially when there is no one else yo "hold the skein" while you hand wind the ball of yarn. Personally, I appreciate the cake style yarns, pulling from the center & using a yarn cake holder, on the floor, while I crochet.
Great demo, thanks!!
Oh my, that’s so therapeutic
I just got mine and now I will watch this reel so I do it right thanks a bunch
You are so gorgeous. And I love your work.
I had difficulties to concentrate on your new gadget because your lovely smile kept distracting me! 🥰 And I really like your video - short, precise, informative and friendly. Greetings from Switzerland 🙏🌹
Lucky!❤
I LOVE YOUR SMILEE!!
Subscribed!!! Love your friendly smile!! We sure need more people like you in this world!!! 🌷
Spiffy winder! I have the same swift, I love it!
Hello...where did you purchase it..
I have so much trouble with winders! Please share about winders... It's beautiful and so steady... I'm drooling over yours. 🤩
Don't mind me just looping the yarn around a chair or pillow or whatever is the right size , my knees when all else fails. Then very effective arm workout winding the yarn
lmao i’ve been literally just keeping it in the skein and pulling it out as i go
@@hollygarfield123 I tried that once. Took me dayyys to untangle it after. Not I just take the little bit of time beforehand
Thankyou for showing 🙌🏼💐
100% this is one option. Or if your broke you can grab a marker with a pocket clip on the cap and cake the yarn by hand. It obviously takes longer but it works just fine. And you probably have an appropriate marker around the house.
That yarn winder is beautiful. ❤
Thank you for showing how to use them together! I’ve got to get a set, because I find it so much easier to crochet with the yarn wound this way. 😊
It’s beatiful! Good job.
Can I just say your smile looks beautiful :)
Old timey wood on my list to look for at Red White and Blue 😊
I have an Amish yarn swift. This one that clips to the table looks awesome, and it folds up much more compactly.
We love a neat yarn cake!! 💛
God, yes! My yarn swift and roller are my 2 favorite things! So worth the investment! ❤
That looked so satisfying!!!
your smile is very pretty!
You seem like a lot of fun. I liked this short. Thanks.
I've admitted defeat on this one and have (finally) ordered a swift and a ball winder, they are on their way to me now.
I will have to buy one for myself ❤
…clever…! THANKS for this his “demo…!” 👍🏼👍🏼👣👠
Thank you 🎉
Didn't know you had TH-cam shorts! Nice to see you here when I need a quick TL Yarn fix! 🥰
I think that is the best looking cake ball😅. Yarn 🧶 cake making. Woohoo. Playing with your yarn 🧶 is a must. I love your equipment set up l, too. Fancy. 🎉
thank you, that was pretty cool to see, it reminds me of Antique Swifts and what was used way way, way, back when, to use
This makes this so much easier.
Cool, I've never used a swift, thanks for showing us how -
You have a Lovely Smile....xoxo from México 🇲🇽
So cool! Love the color of the yarn.
Wow! I love it. That's so clever.
I was making these cardboard circle strings when I was like 8 and I LOVED to ball up my yarn! I literally just bought jarn to make it a ball
I just gotta say you’re gorgeous
Mama would have loved this.
At first I thought it was a music stand and was like ‘that couldn’t possibly be it’
Nicely done!
