This video is a guide to applying lipstick and in it, I use just one gorgeously dramatic shade to show how versatile this classic product can be. After a decade that saw many of us wearing mainly lip gloss often with little colour, I am really happy that lipstick has been making a real comeback over the past few years. This video covers all the different ways to apply lipstick well so that I will not only look great but also last.
Some of you may be thinking "this sounds familiar" and you'd be right as I did make a similar film about 18 months ago, which I absolutely loved but had to take down, as there were some technical problems. I decided to remake it as I felt it was such a good 'tip heavy' and useful one! I believe that with one great lipstick and a little know how you can achieve so many different looks and effects. One lipstick can really take you from day to night, work to party, even if, as I demonstrate, it's a very bold or bright shade.

Lipstick is my favorite beauty product. I remember every Sunday my grandmother would apply this bright red lipstick; I always admired that. I thought it was so classic and feminine. Now I wear red lipstick every day and it reminds me of her. Rest in peace grandma.

My grandmother is 78 and still into makeup and all that stuff. i just love it, she looks so classy and beautiful.
my mother eould wesr red lipstick alot. if she wore otger colors...i dont remember but red lips for sure is what I remember her wearing. my mother was GORGEOUS...so when i started wearing makeup behind my dad's back.. i started with red lios (besides eyeliner). i thought i was so cute. id be wearing it with a baggy shirt and sweats. in h.s. but oh well. haha

I completely agree with the affiliation of lipstick to older hollywood and almost being vintage. My southern bell grandmother loved her lipstick, she had to go the ER, but still took a moment to apply her newest shade.

@cookiealatini very glossy lips are super high maintenance especially if its for a night out. so you do need to be prepared to do touch ups. Avoid taking the gloss all the way to the very edge of the lips (meant to say this in the video but forgot!) because with heat it will travel anyway. Cotton buds and tissue in your bag are essential so you can freshen everything up when you are out. The double blotting will absolutely help the colour underneath stay put though as this stain should remain x

I love that you not only know the technical side of makeup application or anything like that, but I can tell that you really feel the makeup experience in a special way. You treat it as sort of like this special moment and it's really beautifully transferred through your videos. I can learn from your videos and I finish them just feeling better. I love it.
I have never owned a blush, always used lipstick. I saw my mom and aunt do it ever since I was a toddler and it sticked on to me. I always get compliments.
Ahhh Rimmel Black Tulip lip liner.... I used that in the late '70s/80s and I used to use it on my eyes, enhanced the green (or looked like hayfever) for that Toyah look.... that colour is beautiful on you Lisa 👄
I used to use the first technique when I was younger and I wanted a pop of red to brighten up my mood when going to college, but when I didn't want to go all red. I love the idea of using it as a color coordinated blusher though. Thanks for the tutorial! That lipstick looks beautiful on you.
I watched this with the nurses at chemo yesterday. We all loved it! A few of them never thought to use 1 lipstick so many ways. We all loved your top & nails. This is AMAZING! I would never think to sheer it down to quite that amount that you did at first. I do like cream lipstick as blush, though. I like to use as many cream products as I can.
You're so right about the feminine feel of applying lipstick with a lip brush! I have 3 little girls and they stand next to me, mesmerized as I apply my lipstick with a brush. I love watching them watch me. It's so cute!

I love this new fad, simply because there are so many more choices & I feel like lipstick quality has gotten better! It makes me so very happy. This actually made me a little emotional when you brought up grandmothers and pulling out the compact mirror to touch up the lips. I can't tell you how many times in my life I saw my grandmother pull out a mirror and her lipstick after a meal to fix her lipstick. It's something I associate with her and always will. Good memories! Also thanks for the very practical and useful video overall!
This is one of the most helpful tutorials I have seen in a long time! So many makeup videos are repetitive and been-there-done-that, but you always manage to teach me something I didn't know. Keep up the good work :)
If you would like the same effect, I would suggest buying sephora rouge in passion red. Its brilliant and its only 12 dollars. Its the exact same texture and shade. I love it!
just so you know, i read your comment in July 2020 and bought sephora rouge which is on sale the next day but different shade because I forgot. I am very happy with my buy, finally a cheap lipstick that works for me! Thank you for your brilliant recommendation.

I've just discovered this brilliant video - wish I'd known all this years ago but I will try to follow Lisa's brilliant in-the-know professional advice. Difficult to believe it was made in 2011 and I've only just seen it - fabulous then and still fabulous now, Lisa. BTW You look amazing with this colour lipstick.

+hrabmv Understood :) I just personally believe in expressing yourself through your makeup. I know when I see a woman walking around with a bold lip I can't help but smile because I think they look so confident and strong but that might just be me. :)
+hrabmv I think maybe if she had that lip, it might be good to strengthen the rest of the makeup (or hair, clothing) to a bit more sassy look. But in general, I think it's a strong statement and if you wanted and it fit your style, why not go with it anytime. :)

Thank you for redoing this video...I watched your last lipstick video and picked up so many hints from it; it was one of my favourites. I absolutely love lipstick; blush and lipstick are the two things I cannot leave the house without..unfortunately as a more mature wrinkly type applying it as blush doesn't work well for me. Love the whole ritual..so feminine.I think it's really lovely to see a woman who cares about their appearance. Gorgeous colour on you by the way..you could wear any!
