Interesting! My husband and I visited Prague in 1989 (August) just before the fall of the Berlin Wall. It was fascinating. Then in 1995-96 we returned and lived in Usti Nad Labem for one year (he did a Fulbright exchange and I also taught school in Usti). A young Czech family lived in our home in Detroit and we lived in their flat on Beethovenova in Usti. I haven't been back since about 2000 and much was already changed at that time. I'm planning a visit to Usti in October 2024 to see friends I made while living there. This bought back many memories and I am looking forward to the upcoming visit.
I stayed for 6 months for Erasmus. It was a wonderful time. It is a small city but we had the chance to live and meet people from different nations. It has a wonderful nature and the city as a whole build has been influenced by the ussr
Glad you enjoyed. When I made these recordings it was primarily for my mother (here in Canada) and her friends who grew up in the Europe before the Iron Curtain. Glad now I also gave people a look at their own past as well.
It's interesting documentary. The classic squary, articulated trolleybuses are now being phased out completely. Last year it was Brno and only one other city will remain.
amazing! I was 5 yrs old that time, still remember this old face of Usti.. actually the creepy stairs going uphill from Masarykova along the big steam tubes is still there :)
I'm glad you made this video. I was living there at the time. The country would be Czechoslovakia for another month and a half before becoming The Czech Republic.
sorry, don't speak Czeck, but used translation program to understand. But, although I haven't seen Usti in over 20 years, don't you feel that many things have also improved?
Mate you just made my day! How on earth did you end up in Usti back in 1992? You have caught the building I was living at. I can even see the balcony. Have you got more of videos of Usti except for the one's on YT?
Sorry the three or four I posted of Usti are it. Here's how I ended up there.A friend of my mother's here in Canada grew up there as a German, and came to Canada in the 1950s. During one of my visits back to Canada (I was living in Berlin at the time) we got to talking and she described me as best as she could remember where she lived and so during my next visit I tried to see if I could find her area. Showed her the footage during next time home but she wasn't sure if was right area or not. But glad I filmed your building so ended up with some familiarity (but she did find watching the video very interesting)
@@ziegenhagenm Commies definitely used the town as their playground, they used WW2 bombings as an excuse to finish the most of the historical heritage left. Despicable...
Hello Manfred,gr8 job with the movie, wow it is amazing how was everything so grey and sad, you should travel now to Bialystok. Everything but everything changed , it looks like you are in entire different world. Thank you.
Jo, to bylo staré, zlaté Ústí! MHD dobře fungovala, zastávky byly prostorné, provoz na silnicích podstatně slabší, zaparkovat bylo kde, stály obě tržnice...
Thank you Manfred, this is now indeed an historic documentary now, and is being used as a resource for local museum you've also documented on video. Nobody here viewed the town in a way you have. The town went through many changes, and without this video, it would be barely comparable and appreciated. Take care, Ustí!

Believe me Ústí has lost a lot of its grace and beauty. It was always a bit of a grey mouse in the republic, but now its just sad.

This is one hell of a nostalgia trip!
Great recording for remembering, I lived near Usti and I was 14 in 1992
Thank you so much for uploading the video!! It's so nice to see Ústí again with the same eyes as when I was 4 years old at that time.

amazing travel back in time, great video 👌👍
In 19:48 there you can see Renault 19 (dark blue), that was a new modern car these days! Wonderful car.

Beautiful city !!! There I´m living all my life !!!
Hi from Ukraine. Ths for this video.
I remember these bus stops at Hraničář :D :D :D Also, as a kid I was twice in the cinema Hraničář :) Too shame it was closed then for a long time :(
sorry, don't speak Czeck, but used translation program to understand. But, although I haven't seen Usti in over 20 years, don't you feel that many things have also improved?
Thank you, man!!!!!
Wow it's amazing to see how everything was before. Lots of things changed now for better. Greetings from an argentine expat in Usti. :)
*thumbs up*
Glad you liked it. There are one or more visits to Usti among my posts.

...memories..
So... In this town is not many change it for lot of years... But i dont know, which is the good...
Yes, this is a "historical document" only.
+Manfred Ziegenhagen "DOCUMENT" ???? IT IS AMATEUR VIDEO, SORRY.
+STA NLEY OMG!!

ouu, very old, no wonder city:-)
Who came here because of the Chernarus? :D
Yes that is always a challenge our politicians and managers lose - how to make improvements without going in debt.
Video I like! Not many things are much worse in Ústí! :-(
Ne Czeckoslovakia, to je paskvil, ale Czechoslovakia. Myslím, že byste si to měl opravit.
When I recorded this I believe it was still Czechoslovakia, but it probably is better to change it.
Manfred Ziegenhagen I think he was talking about the typo that you still kept :) it's Czech, not Czeck.
Petr Vnenk thanks, corrected it now.
Ty jídla za 150 cože 😂
depresivni...
Interesting. I was in Usti this afternoon. It changed a lot. I was thinking having lunch at the Hotel Bohemia but then I ended up at KFC ;-)
